Abstract

Partners in implementing this international community service activity are Indonesian migrant workers from Penang Island and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia) Penang. The primary challenge confronting the partners is the low literacy and comprehension of sharia economic and financial practices and the utilization of digital technology in everyday life. This program was conducted at Wisma Indonesia, George Town, Penang, Malaysia. A total of 50 Indonesian migrant workers participated in the enrichment activities performed by the community service team in June 2024. The objective of the enrichment program, which is performed over a single day, is to facilitate comprehension of the tenets and practices of Islamic economics and finance among the partners. The program covers a range of topics, including but not limited to the principles of buying and selling, the operational aspects of Sharia banking, the managerial techniques associated with Sharia marketing, the intricacies of ZISWAF, the ethical considerations inherent to Islamic business practices, the fundamental principles of sharia investment, and the potential applications of digital technologies within the context of the sharia economy. It is evident that there is a pressing need for Indonesian migrant workers, the majority of whom are Muslim, to enhance their literacy and comprehension abilities. It is particularly crucial given that the topics have been selected according to their needs before the speakers arrive to provide the material. Following implementing the focus group discussion method, most migrant workers expressed satisfaction and appreciation for the activity, citing its effectiveness in facilitating their comprehension of authentic Sharia economic and financial practices. Additionally, using digital technology based on Sharia principles was identified as a valuable learning opportunity for migrant workers, enabling them to develop their careers while working in Malaysia. Implementing initiatives aimed at enhancing literacy and comprehension capacity represents an effort by Islamic universities to contribute to enhancing the competencies of Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia. It is hoped that this can be implemented on a sustainable basis

Abstract

The partners in this international community service program are representatives of farmers who are members of the Regional Farmers Association (PPK) Seri Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. The issues that partners have identified as requiring attention are as follows: (1) There is a lack of understanding among partners of how to improve existing competencies in order to develop a business; (2) There are no business strategy seminars conducted by international universities with the specific aim of empowering farmers; (3) There is no forum for discussion between academics and business actors. The aforementioned partner problem was addressed through the implementation of three proposed solutions, namely: (1) the organization of high-quality competency improvement seminars for farmers; (2) the organization of an international community service seminar for farmers in collaboration with PPK, UiTM Cawangan Pulau Penang, and 12 Indonesian universities that are members of the ASEAN Academic Association; and (3) the establishment of discussion forums at PPK Seri Pulau Penang and several business centers for farmers.

Abstract

The establishment of a land bank related to problems in land acquisition today has resulted in a shift in the view of land as a commodity that is considered strategic. This triggered land liberalization, which resulted in land prices soaring due to the games of land speculators so that land compensation issues constrained the projects planned by the government in building infrastructure. The problem is the influence of the principle of the right to control the state in the formation of a land bank and how is the position of the land bank in the perspective of agrarian reform. The research method used is normative juridical in the form of legal behaviour by reviewing statutory regulations. Land rights are derived from the state's right to control, which can be given to the community individually or in the form of a legal entity or jointly. State rights in the land sector are rights granted to the state to regulate and organize the allocation, use, supply, and maintenance in the land sector; regulate the land bank whether it is by what the government intended or return to the old guidelines, namely domein verklaring. Therefore, as the legislator and implementer, the government is expected to revise the Basic Agrarian Law. The revision prevents the right to control land, which is feared to happen again, like in the Dutch colonial era. The Basic Agrarian Law is considered too outdated and does not follow current land problems. Keywords: The right to control the state; land bank; domein verklaring; land acquisition

Abstract

In this era of globalization, social and political issues are increasingly influencing consumer behavior, especially among the younger generation or known as Generation Z. One of the issues that has received great attention from the world is the Palestinian conflict with Israel. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of social factors and consumer behavior on the decision to boycott pro-Israel products, both partially and simultaneously. This study used 119 respondents as a research sample taken using a quantitative approach analysis method technique based on descriptive research methods. The results of the study based on the simultaneous test (F test) show that simultaneously (simultaneously) social factors and consumer behavior have a positive and significant effect on the decision to boycott pro-Israel products in Kisaran City. The results of partial hypothesis testing (t test) show that social factors and consumer behavior partially have a positive and significant effect on the decision to boycott pro-Israel products in Kisaran City. Based on the results of the determination test, it is known that consumer decisions can be explained by social factors and consumer behavior by 61.7%, while the remaining 38.3% is explained by other variables not examined in this study.
