Abstract

In general, farmers in Buttu Pamboang Village in Majene District in carrying out the cultivation of onion plants have not applied the rules of cultivation correctly and precisely, resulting in a decline in crop. Agricultural commodities have a strategic role in realizing government policy to increase foreign exchange acquisition. The toughness of the role in the world trade globalization era is faced with the competition of commodity quality, both in domestic and foreign markets. This Era is characterized by the increasingly free commodity trading between countries in the world including vegetable commodities. In Indonesia, the local red onion plant (Allium cepa L.) has been cultivated by farmers as a commercial farming. However, the presence and demand of red onion that continue to increase every year cannot be followed by the increase in production. Data of the Agricultural office of Pamboang Village, October 2015 that the amount of local red onion productivity ranged from 5-6 tons and the production amount ranged from 10-12 tons with 2 ha of farmland area in 2014. It can be concluded that the production of local red onion in 2015 in the Pamboang Village decreased compared to the previous year, the red onion productivity of 2015 average ranged from 2-3 tons. This research aims to identify the attitude of farmers in Buttu Pamboang Village to decline in production in the onion farming business and know the factors that cause a decline in the production of local red onion in Buttu Pamboang Village in Pamboang District of Majene Regency. To identify the assessment of the farmer's stance, analyzed using Likert scale. The Likert scale is the identification of assessments to measure the attitudes and opinions and perceptions of the person/group on social symptoms. The results of the study proved that the attitude of farmers in Buttu Pamboang Village to the decline of production is good or well received.

Abstract

The lack of consistency of farmers in implementing good agriculture practice has led to the adoption of innovations o frequent Harvesting, Pruning, Sanitation and Fertilization are important to maintain the quality of the cocoa beans produced. This research was carried out in one of the cocoa centers in West Sulawesi, namely in the Village of Tapango, Polewali Mandar Regency with the aim of knowing the effect of the adoption of frequent harvesting, pruning, sanitation and fertilization on increasing cocoa production. This type of research is descriptive quantitative in which the determination of the sample is carried out by the Slovin method in order to obtain 65 cocoa farmers who apply the adoption of Frequent Harvesting, Pruning, Sanitation and Fertilization. The data analysis used in this research is simple regression analysis and the coefficient of determination. The results of the data analysis showed that the innovation adoption of Frequent Harvesting, Pruning, Sanitation and Fertilization to the increase in cocoa production was very influential with a percentage level or determination coefficient (R2) of 96.8 percent. In addition, the results of the study also showed that through the adoption of innovation, the production of cocoa plants increased by 3.17 tons per hectare. Therefore, it is hoped that the implementation of the innovation adoption of Frequent Harvesting, Pruning, Sanitation and Fertilization to be continued to implement by cocoa farmers in a sustainable manner in Polewali Mandar.

Abstract

The purchase price of oil palm has often experienced significant increases and decreases due to several factors including oil palm production, oil palm exports, and the oil palm price. Fertilization is one of the most important and complex technical culture activities in oil palm farming. Fertilization in oil palm plants should be able to guarantee normal vegetative and generative growth to provide optimal Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) production and produce high quality and quantity of crude palm oil. This study aims to evaluate how much influence the FFB purchase price has on the frequency of fertilization used by oil palm farmers. This research is a quantitative study with a descriptive analysis design to see the effect of the purchase price of fresh fruit bunches on the frequency of fertilization used by oil palm farmers in the Mamuju Regency. The results of regression analysis data showed that the purchase price of FFB influenced the frequency of oil palm fertilization by 11.3 percent.

Abstract

The circulation of global food, especially fast food like sausages, nuggets, fried chicken such as KFC, and other instant food, has been circulating into rural areas. Many estimated younger generation's preferences would change under these conditions. Because of that, we were conducted research in the Tinambung, Polewali Mandar District, West Sulawesi Province, from May to August 2021 to understand the young preferences for food. The research found that the Millennial, Z, and Alpha generations of Mandarese still have a good preference for their local gastronomy. The types of the Mandarese food on this study are Baupiapi, Jepa, Bubur Tarreang, Loka Anjoroi, and Binte. Those are made from local raw materials such as cassava, banana, coconut, fish, millet, and corn. These agricultural and local raw materials can be the basis for developing more diverse food for the daily consumption of the youth. The young generation's preferences are essential because their population is enormous. It means their food preference will affect the food system. It can also be a factor in determining a future food diversification policy and self-sufficiency of the Mandarese. Currently, the highest preference of the young generation in Polewali Mandar still tends to like and choose Mandar gastronomy compared with global foods. It shows that local foods are still in line with the youth's preferences but need to develop as an essential part of their daily consumption. Their preferences for local gastronomy are still facing challenges; it will be more diverse or even the other way around because of the hegemony of the global food trend.
