Abstract

Language anxiety constitutes a psychological phenomenon that commonly impacts second/foreign language (L2) learning and performance. Although language anxiety has been extensively studied in L2 research, there is a lack of research on the relationship between speaking anxiety and pronunciation accuracy. To address this gap, the current study investigates the potential influence of speaking anxiety on pronunciation accuracy in L2 speaking. Data were obtained from 30 Indonesian learners of English as a foreign language (EFL). These learners completed an L2 speaking task and a questionnaire. The speaking task assessed the learners’ ability to pronounce English words, while the questionnaire measured their levels of speaking anxiety. A correlational analysis of the data revealed a very weak correlation between speaking anxiety and pronunciation accuracy among the Indonesian EFL learners, and this correlation was not statistically significant: ρ(28) = 0.052, two-tailed p = 0.785. These findings suggest that the reported levels of speaking anxiety among the learners do not significantly impact their pronunciation accuracy in the given L2 English speaking task. This study contributes to the existing knowledge by shedding light on the underexplored relationship between L2 speaking anxiety and pronunciation accuracy.

Abstract

This study aims to find out students’ critical thinking skill, students’ reading comprehension ability, and the correlation between students’ critical thinking and reading comprehension ability. Data were collected from 90 students from the 7th grade of SMPN 1 Ajung, selected from three different classes. The researcher used a questionnaire from Mincemoyer and Perkins (2005) to measure the students’ critical thinking and taking the reading comprehension score from the help of the classroom teacher. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistic and Pearson Product Moment in SPSS 19. Pearson Product Moment was used to find the correlation between students’ critical thinking and reading comprehension ability. The findings showed that students’ critical thinking skill was in the middle level (52-67) and students’ score in reading comprehension was in the good level (61-85). The finding shows that the Pearson Correlation Coefficient between variable students’ critical thinking and variable students’ reading comprehension is (r = 0.542). Which means the correlation between the two variables is moderate. Statistically, there is a correlation between critical thinking and reading comprehension of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Ajung. Overall, this finding has implications for educators who may want to consider incorporating critical thinking skills into reading comprehension instruction to improve students' performance in this area. It also highlights the need for further research to investigate the relationship between perceived critical thinking and reading comprehension in other populations and contexts.

Abstract

The research aims to develop an electronic school report (e-report/e-rapor) to assess the achievement of competencies profiling Pancasila students. The development of this e-report facilitated the needs of schools that did not have an assessment system for the implementation of the Enhancing Pancasila Student Profiles Project (EP4). The e-report was developed in accordance with the Decision Letter of the Education Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment Agency (BSKAP) number 009. The development of this e-report used the development method approach, commonly known as Research and Development (R&D). To test the feasibility of the developed e-report, it was evaluated based on two aspects: content validity and effectiveness. The respondents in this research were 30 teachers and/or school principals. The data analysis technique for analyzing data from the interactive e-report development process was descriptive to explain the process and the effectiveness for the product. The results of the e-report validity on the accuracy of dimensions and elements were as follows: 54% very accurate, 40% accurate, and 6% fairly accurate. Meanwhile, the accuracy of the assessment was 54% very accurate, 43% accurate, and 3% fairly accurate. The accuracy of other components was 57% very accurate, 37% accurate, and 6% fairly accurate. The e-report effectiveness on ease of use was as follows: 50% very easy, 47% easy, and 3% fairly easy. Then, the e-report attractiveness was 43% very attractive, 47% attractive, and 10% fairly attractive. The conformity of appearance with the EP4 concept was 60% very suitable, 34% suitable, and 6% fairly suitable. As a result, the e-report was recommended in assessing the implementation of EP4.
