Abstract

Introduction & Aim: The aging process impacts reducing body resistance in older adults. Hypertension is a health problem caused by the aging process and lifestyle factors. The incidence of hypertension in older adults continues to increase in Surabaya. Non-pharmacological therapy with relaxing foot massage is an intervention to control blood pressure in older adults. Relaxing Foot Massage (PIJAR) educational activities in community service aim to increase the knowledge of older adults and their families in maintaining blood pressure. Method of Activity: Implementation of community service activities consists of three stages, such as initial survey, socialization, and implementation. Using a health education method, this activity was carried out on March 14, 2023, in Tambak Sari District, Surabaya. The material provided in this activity is the concept and demonstration of relaxing foot massage to 10 (ten) older adults and families. Data analysis used a univariate test with attention to the evaluation results through a questionnaire before and after health education. Results: There was an increase in knowledge after being given health education from 40% to 100% in good knowledge. There was an increase in average blood pressure from 40% to 60% after the Relaxation Foot Massage demonstration. Discussion: Health education and Relaxation Foot Massage can be used to increase the knowledge of the elderly group. Non-pharmacological therapy foot massage can help older adults to control blood pressure. Families have an active role in controlling blood pressure by providing relaxing foot massages to older adults.

Abstract

Introduction & Aim: Hypertension is a condition where the systolic blood pressure is more than 140 mmHg and the diastolic is more than 90 mmHg. Hypertension data in East Java Province is ranked sixth in the 2018 Riskesdas. One of the various effects of hypertension is the anxiety and discomfort it causes. One of the non-pharmacological therapies that can be done is stress management in the form of deep breathing relaxation techniques and progressive muscle relaxation. Health education is given to increase participants' knowledge about the disease they are suffering from. Health education and stress management in the form of deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation are offered to solve blood pressure and anxiety problems for people with hypertension. Method of Activity: Implementation of activities in the form of health education followed by demonstrations of the implementation of stress management in the form of deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation. The activities were carried out en masse and the results were measured using the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HRS-A) before the activity and 1 week after the activity. The activity was carried out on December 21 2022 in the Gundih Region, Bubutan, Surabaya City. Results: There was a decrease in blood pressure and a decrease in the participants' anxiety. Discussion: Stress management can help reduce blood pressure and anxiety scores, these conditions can be related because anxiety causes increased blood pressure, and it is necessary to increase knowledge with Health Education so that sufferers can have a better attitude towards their health problems.

Abstract

Introduction & Aims: According to WHO, there are 65.6 million elderly people throughout the world who experience impaired cognitive function. The impact of cognitive disorders in the elderly causes a shift in the role of the elderly in social interactions in society and within the family, followed by a decrease in physical and mental activity, impaired social function, and a decrease in quality of life. East Java is in second place with the highest dementia rate with a dementia prevalence of 10.40% and increasing with each passing year. Based on preliminary data in the RW 07 area, Kapasan, Simokerto District, the risk of cognitive impairment in the elderly is in fourth place with a percentage of 20%. So it is important to intervene regarding the risk of cognitive impairment in the elderly. The aim of this activity was to stimulate the cognitive abilities of the elderly through MOKA Games. Method of Activity: Community service activities were carried out in the RW.07 area, Kapasan, Simokerto District, Surabaya City, in February 2024. Implementation of this activity included opening, filling out the pre-test, explaining the material using leaflets, MOKA (Cognitive Monitoring of the Elderly) demonstration. Games, discussions, and post-test completion. MOKA Games is a game innovation based on the MMSE instrument, equipped with a guidebook containing a game monitoring table, each player has a monitoring table containing the score for each question. Result: There was an increase in audience knowledge as shown by an increase in the percentage of knowledge from pre-test to post-test, apart from that respondents were able to carry out a MOKA Games simulation with the direction of elderly cadres. Discussion: Cognitive stimulation activities for the elderly through MOKA Games received a positive response and good enthusiasm from the audience, with MOKA Games we can find out the condition of cognitive abilities and stimulate the elderly.
