Abstract

Students’ previous knowledge at a superficial level is reviewed when they solve mathematical problems. This action is imperative to strengthen their knowledge and provide the right information needed to solve the problems. Furthermore, Pirie and Kieren's theory stated that the act of returning to a previous level of understanding is called folding back. Therefore, this descriptive-explorative study examines high school students' levels of knowledge in solving mathematics problems using the folding back method. The sample consists of 33 students classified into male and female groups, each interviewed to determine the results of solving arithmetic problems based on gender. The results showed differences in the level of students' understanding in solving problems. Male students carried out the folding back process at the level of image having, formalizing, and structuring. Their female counterparts conducted it at image-making, property noticing, formalizing, and observing. Subsequently, both participants were able to carry out understanding activities, including explaining information from a mathematical problem, defining the concept, having an overview of a particular topic, identifying similarities and differences, abstracting mathematical concepts, and understanding its ideas in accordance with a given problem. This study suggested that Pirie and Kieren's theory can help teachers detect the features of students’ understanding in solving mathematical problems.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini secara khusus bertujuan untuk meningkatkan minat membaca anak-anak di kota Palopo dengan pengadaan Mini Library, dan secara umum untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir, membaca dan menulis atau keterampilan lain yang dibutuhkan (softskill dan hardskill) dengan membentuk suatu komunitas belajar Learning Station Community. Program ini dilakukan dalam beberapa tahap, yakni tahap sosialisasi kegiatan kepada mitra, membentuk komunitas belajar dengan nama Learning Station Community dan menyediakan buku bacaan anak yang beragam di Mini Library . Selain membaca, anak-anak juga diajari berbagai hal seperti seni, bahasa Inggris dan nilai-nilai karakter dan budaya bangsa Indonesia. Kegiatan ini bermitra dengan dua kelompok anak-anak di Kelurahan Surutanga Palopo, mereka dengan antusias mengikuti kegiatan belajar dan membaca di Mini Library, namun memotivasi anak-anak untuk terus aktif belajar dan membaca merupakan hal yang menjadi tantangan tersendiri bagi tim pelaksana. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan ini direncanakan akan terus berlanjut dengan harapan bahwa kecintaan anak-anak di kota Palopo pada buku dan kegiatan membaca akan terus meningkat.

Abstract

Aplikasi bangun datar merupakan salah satu bentuk media pembelajaran yang berbasis Android yang saat ini banyak dimanfaatkan untuk pembelajaran dasar sebagai sarana untuk pengenalan fundamental dari pemrograman. Salah satu media pembelajaran yang dapat dikembangkan saat ini yaitu media pembelajaran Android yang mudah diakses dan mudah digunakan oleh siapa saja dan dilakukan dimana saja menjadi faktor pendorong perkembangan media pembelajaran berbasis Android tanpa harus bertatap muka langsung dalam proses pembelajaran, siswa, dan guru dapat melakukan pembelajaran tersebut, sehingga waktu yang digunakan akan relatif efisien karena tidak mengurangi jam efektif pembelajaran. Target dari kegiatan ini adalah siswa-siswi sekolah dasar. Metode yang digunakan dalam Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini adalah metode praktik. Lokasi pengenalan dari kegiatan ini bertempat di SDN 1 Lalebta. Hasil yang dicapai yaitu peningkatan kemampuan dan pemahaman siswa SDN 1 Lalebata dalam bidang teknologi informasi dan komunikasi khususnya Pengenalan bangun datar dengan menggunakan aplikasi android di SDN 1 Lalebbata.
