Abstract

Non formal education can improve learners’ capacity in any skill. This study is aimed to reveal the implementation of English learning in MOEC Majene as a non-formal education unit and how students’ perception toward its learning were. This study used quantitative method with descriptive data. The       participants of this study were students of English Education from Unsulbar University and STAIN Majene  who were selected using a purposive sampling technique in which they are students in MOEC Majene who wish to develop their English capacity even though they are English education students in university. The research data was obtained by using observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The results of this study indicated that English education  students from Unsulbar University and STAIN Majene had low speaking ability before enrolling in the  MOEC Majene. The findings showed that MOEC Majene gave powerfull impact on speaking skills of English  education students in Unsulbar University and STAIN Majene. The researchers also discovered that learning environment at MOEC Majene could assist students in improving their communication skills. Students’ responses draw the description of how MOEC Majene has impressed learners there.

Abstract

Family planning counseling services are key in providing accurate information and touching on psychosocial aspects of the family. This activity was carried out to explore the potential for using audio-visual media to increase the effectiveness of family planning counseling services. The family planning program determines the quality of the family, because this program can save women's lives and improve the health status of mothers, especially in preventing unwanted pregnancies, spacing births can reduce the risk of infant death. Contraception is used to maintain birth spacing. Thus, the use of contraception can also reduce the risk of maternal and infant death due to too close birth spacing. Implementation Method: By utilizing audio-visual media in counseling related to contraceptive material and various contraceptive methods, both hormonal and non-hormonal types. short-term contraceptive methods consisting of birth control pills and birth control injections, condoms. Then, long-term contraceptive methods consisting of intrauterine devices (IUD), implants, tubectomy and vasectomy. Activity Results: Couples of childbearing age understand more about the delivery of contraceptives and various types of contraceptives. As a result of delivering the material, there were around 67 couples of childbearing age who attended, there were around 30 couples who wanted to use PIL contraception for 1 and 3 months, then 10 couples who want to use contraceptive implants and IUDs. Conclusion: The use of audio visuals in family planning (KB) counseling services can provide many benefits, audio visuals are not only beneficial for counselors but also for clients.

Abstract

The increasing environmental pollution is one of the consequences of human activities that continue to expand. The environment has limitations in coping with pollutants generated by humans, such as waste from the laundry industry. This research aims to evaluate the combined effect of zeolite produced from corn cobs and the use of microorganisms capable of degrading anionic surfactants, with the goal of reducing the concentration of anionic surfactants in laundry wastewater. The methods used include adsorption using corn cobs as adsorbents and biodegradation using surfactant-degrading bacteria. Morphological observations using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) indicate that the produced zeolite has a crystal structure that stacks up like clumps of cubes. X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis shows that zeolite synthesized with a silica extraction ratio from corn cobs and sodium aluminate of 20:20 mL has been successfully conducted. The biodegradation process of anionic surfactants in laundry wastewater using a combination of synthesized zeolite and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria employing the Methylene Blue Alkyl Substance (MBAS) method has shown a decrease in concentration to 1.66 mg/L and degradation of 33.55%, especially in sample 3 with variations of 7.5 grams of corn cob zeolite and 15% microorganisms, during a 5-day experiment.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is the ability of the students to interpret and understand the facts and information expressed in the reading. Discovery learning method is a strategy that encourages students to arrive at a conclusion based upon their own activities and observation. This study was aimed to examine the effect of discovery learning method on students’ reading comprehension at the second grade of MAN 2 Parepare. The results of this study are useful for teachers and students because they can get information about learning methods that can be used in learning reading. The research use pre-experimental research design with pre-test, treatment and post-test design. The sample of this research was 26 students from 86 participants students who become population. The researcher used technique random sampling in this research to get data. The results showed that the discovery learning method can improve the reading comprehension at the second grade of MAN 2 Parepare. It was indicated by the students’ mean score of post-test (77,88) was greater than the pre-test (46,54). Even, for the level significant (p) 5% and df = 25, and the t-table value is 1,708, while the value of t-test is 8,65. It means that the t-test value is greater than t-table (8,65 ≥ 1,078). Thus, it can be concluded that students’ reading comprehension is significantly better after getting the treatment. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.
