Abstract

This research was conducted in February until March 2016 at East YuIsland, located in the Thousand Islands National Park. The purpose of this studywas to investigate the characteristics of nesting habitat of hawksbill turtle(Eretmochelys imbricata). The method used in this research is survey method, with measuring directly on the habitat of hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelysimbricata) covering the slope of the beach, texture of sediments, within the nest oftides, temperature of the nest, humidty of the nest, the depth of the nest, fecundity, and the type of vegetation and predators in the nesting habitat. The results showedthat the nesting habitat characteristics vary between nest with each other. Nestingbeach ramps ranged 2,75-4,60º with medium sand sediment texture to coarsesand. Hawksbill turtle lay it eggs to the distance between 5-12 meters of theaverage highest tide mark. Temperatures nest ranging between 27-31ºC with ahumidity between 15-30%. The dominant vegetation in the area is a nesting plantsbutun (Barringtonia asiatica) whereas the dominant predator was biawak(Varanus salvator). Keywords: Eretmochelys imbricata, Characteristic of nesting environment, EastYu Island, Thousand Islands

Abstract

This research was conducted in March 2015 to find out the structure of  diatom community and the distribution of abundance planktonic diatom in coastal around Dumai City. The survey method was applied in four stations with different characteristics, each stasiun consisted three sampling strata. The total of diatomwere 10 genera namely:Eucampia, Leptocylindrus, Guinardia, Rhizosolenia, Melosira, Coscinodiscus, Thalassiothrix, Rhabdonema, Nizschia, and Bacillaria. The most genera that commonly found was Rhizosoleniabecause yhis genera was being able to compete better than other genera. Base on the formulation of diversity index (H'), dominance index (D), and equability index (E), explained that the structure of diatomplanktonic community in all stations were in a state of balance. It  means there was not competition both places and food. The result of ANOVA test gained that the distribution of the diatom abundance was not significantly different among stations.   Key Words: abundance, diatom planktonic, Dumai

Abstract

The research was conducted in June 2015 by collecting samples from Sungai Enam and Dompak coastal waters of Bintan Island of Riau Islands Province. The study used a survey method. The samples were collected from the intertidal area. The results showed that Pb content was found to be highest in large size of snails in Sungai Enam (4.6143 μg/g), the highest Cu content was found in medium size of snails in Dompak waters (4.7103 μg/g), and the highest Zn metal content was recorded in medium size of snails in Dompak waters (20.6790 μg/g). The results of this study also showed that MPI values obtained from Sungai Enam waters were 5.273 and for Dompak waters was 6.122. PTWI derived from the waters of Sungai Enam for Pb was equal to 1.6984 mg/kg of body weight per week. Cu amounted to 0.2887 mg/kg of body weight per week, whilst Zn amounted to 0.1870 mg/kg of body weight per week. PTWI derived from Dompak waters for Pb was 1.7581 mg/kg of body weight per week, Cu amounted to 0.2626 mg/kg of body weight per week whilst Zn amounted to 0.1269 mg/kg of body weight per weekKey Words : Heavy metal, gonggong snail (Strombus canarium), Bintan Island

Abstract

This research was conducted in February 2015 located in the coastal area of Kuala Indragiri, Riau Province. This purpose of this study was to know the diversity macrozoobenthos and observe the relevance sediment content organic matter with the abundance of macrozoobenthos. The method used in the study was a survey method. Sampling macrozoobenthos was conducted by using 50 meters transect line, from the lowest tide limit to the highest tides and on each transect three plots with a size of 1 x 1 m2 was applied. The research recorded 13 spesies of macrozoobenthos consisting of 4 classes, namely class Gastropoda (Telescopium Telescopium, Eupleura caudata Chicoreus capucinus, Strombus sp, sp Cherithidea, Nerita sp, Babylonia spirata, Morulla striata), Bivalves (Anadara granosa, Placuna placenta), Crustaceans (Uca coartata, Sylla serrata), and Polychaetes (Eunice viridis). Diversity of macrozoobenthos was medium, nothing species dominates and uniformity was evenly. The average content of organic matter was 7.23%. Correlation of sediment organic matter with abundance macrozoobenthos was significant r = 0.907.Keywords: Diversity, Macrozoobenthos, Sediment Content Organic Matter, Indragiri Hilir.

Abstract

Analysis of lead, copper and zinc in black snail (Faunus ater) in Air Bangis estuary was conducted in August 2014 with the aim to determine the pollution level in the estuary as well as to evaluate the safety of the snail for human consumption. The result showed that the average concentration of lead was 7.91 μg/g, copper 10.58 μg/g and zinc 65.11 μg/g. Higher metal concentration was found in the muscle body and smaller size of tha snail accumulated higher concentration of the metals studied. The MPI value of 75.28 in the estuary is categorize as can be tolerated by aquatic organisms. PTWI calculation for lead (0.88 kg/week), copper (92.8 kg/week) and zinc (30.09 kg/week) indicated that the snail from Air Bangis estuary is still considered to be safe for human consumption. Keywords: Heavy Metal, Faunus ater, Pollution, West Sumatra.

Abstract

This research was conductes in April 2016 in Coastal Area Tanjung BalaiKarimun. The purpose of this study is to find a community structure mangrove andunderstanding of the conditions mangrove forests in Coastal Area Tanjung BalaiKarimun. The method used in this research is survey method, with counting diametermangrove, distinguish tree, saplings, counting density according to structuremangrove, and identify the types of mangrove at the station. The result showed thatmangrove condition of the station is damaged. A kind of vegetation mangrove thatwere found in Coastal Area consisting of a kind of Sonneratia alba, Sonneratiacaseolaris, Avicennia lanata, and Rhizophora lamarckii. Index value important at agroup of trees the highest which is a kind of A. lanata 107,13% (station 1), in station2 IVI highest kind of S. alba 229,08%, and IVI on the highest station 3 that is a kindof S. alba 138,35%. To the highest IVI saplings station 1 has on the type of R.lamarckii 163,68%, in station 2 IVI highest kind of S. alba 191,43%, and IVI on thehighest station 3 that is a kind of S. caseolaris 200,97%.Keywords: Mangrove, Density, Index Value Important
