Penelitian ini tentang masalah-masalah sosial di dalam novel berbahasa Jawa Mecaki Katresnan ing Satengahe Perang Politik (Menyusuri Cinta di Tengah Perang Politik) karya Tulus Setiyadi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan masalah-masalah sosial yang ada di dalam novel. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan analisis holistik-deskriptif dan teori yang digunakan adalah teori sosiologi sastra. Teori ini tidak memiliki fokus pada kualitas atau baik-buruknya novel ini sebagai karya sastra melainkan pada isinya yang terkait dengan permasalahan yang ada di dalam masyarakat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam novel ini terdapat permasalahan sosial yang berkaitan dengan jurang pemisah antara kelompok masyarakat yang kaya dan miskin, kekuasaan, dan hubungan percintaan.

PENINDASAN TERHADAP PEREMPUAN DALAM NOVEL PEREMPUAN DI TITIK NOL DAN MIDAH SI MANIS BERGIGI EMAS: KAJIAN SASTRA BANDINGAN Kristin Marwinda

The purpose of this study is to compare two kinds of literary work from two different countries about women oppression experienced by the main character in the novel. The objects analyzed in this study are Perempuan di Titik Nol by Nawal el-Saadawi, an author from Egypt, and Midah Si Manis Bergigi Emas by Pramoedya Anantha Toer from Indonesia. This comparative literature study uses the theory of feminism. The method of this study is descriptive qualitative based on the library research. The results of this study show that there are significant differences between women oppression experienced by the main characters, although both novels have same theme which is the struggle of a woman in obtaining her rights. Firdaus, the main character in Perempuan di Titik Nol, regards her struggle as a prostitute is more respected than has to become a wife of sheikh, who undergo oppression and physical abuse, and is used as an object of satisfying man desire that is worthless. By being a prostitute, she thinks that she has more freedom of her own body. Meanwhile, the main character in Midah Si Manis Bergigi Emas, Midah, regards her struggle of life as a prostitute as freedom in terms of gender equality because she can choose her own way of life without having to be managed by any man. Midah does not get more physical oppression as what Firdaus experiences, especially as a victim of physical abuse from her husband and other men.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis gambaran perempuan yang didominasi oleh laki-laki di ranah domestik dalam novel Safe Haven(2010) karya Nicholas Sparks. Kisah dalam novel ini menjadi menarik untuk diteliti karena tokoh utama perempuan digambarkan menjadi korban penindasan yaitu kekerasan dalam rumah tangga atas akibat dari dominasi sang suami. Masalah yang diteliti adalah tentang bagaimana dominasi laki-laki terhadap perempuan dalam novel Safe Haven dan apa akibat yang dialami perempuan atas dominasi tersebut. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kritik sastra feminis yang fokus pada masalah dominasi laki-laki sebagai dampak dari masih adanya budaya patriarki yang melekat pada masyarakat era moderen. Metode yang digunakan yaitu deskriptif-kualitatif, sehingga hasil penelitian adalah penjelasan berupa kata-kata bukan berupa angka. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Kevin Tierney, suami Katie, selalu bersikap lebih mendominasi Katie dalam segala hal, khususnya dalam urusan rumah tangga. Dominasi Kevin terhadap Katie antara lain yaitu berkuasa atas diri Katie, melarang Katie bergaul dengan orang lain, dan berkuasa dalam hal keuangan. Sedangkan akibat dari dominasi Kevin adalah Katie mengalami beberapa penindasan yaitu berupa kekerasan fisik dan non-fisik.vThis study aims to analyze the image of woman dominated by man in the domestic sphere inthe novel Safe Haven (2010) by Nicholas Sparks. The story in this novel is interesting to beinvestigated because the main female character is described as being a victim of oppression,namely domestic violence due to the dominance of her husband. The problem studied is abouthow male domination of women in the novel Safe Haven and what are the consequencesexperienced by women for that dominance. The approach used is from feminism perspectivewhich focuses on the problem of male domination as a result of the persistence of patriarchalculture inherent in modern era society. The method used is descriptive-qualitative, so theresults of the study are explanations in the form of words rather than numbers. The results ofthis study indicate that Kevin Tierney, Katie’s husband, has always been more dominating inKatie’s life, especially in household matters. Kevin’s domination of Katie included being incharge of Katie, forbidding Katie to associate with others, and being in charge of financialmatters. The result of Kevin’s dominance was that Katie experienced some oppression in theform of physical and non-physical violence. Katie’s decision to run away from her husbandand live her new life with another man represents a woman who is able to fight againstinjustice over male domination in the household. The topic of cultural differences in picture books can be used as a medium for school-age children to understand more about the condition of immigrant children in America. “Through picture books about immigrants, nonimmigrant children can learn about the immigrant experience (Johnson and Smith, 1993) and be exposed to different cultures in the social studies classroom” (Lamme, Linda, et al., 2004: 123). This issue becomes very interesting to be analyzed because the readers will get more understanding on how immigrant children face several cultural differences in America, especially on how they develop their identity. The purpose of this study is to analyze the identity development of immigrant children in America as portrayed in Yoon character in the picture books by Helen Recorvits. As a Korean girl who moves to America, Yoon has to adapt and adjust with new different environment. The method of this study is descriptive qualitative based on the library research. This paper uses sociological approach to analyze the story of Yoon in the picture books. The result of this study shows that Yoon has experienced adjustment and acculturation during her adaptation to American culture. She has gradually undergone a change of identity, which is from a Korean girl to be an Asian-American. Keywords: picture books, immigrant children, adjustment, identity development

The topic of this paper is the relationship between feminism and the stereotypes in the movie Mulan by Walt Disney (1998). Mulan is the representation of a tough and brave woman. The movie raises the issue of Mulan’s feminism as the main character and gender stereotype that suggests women as inferior to men. This paper focuses on the main character and how she tries to break the stereotypes in her society. Liberal feminist theory is used as an approach in this paper. The sources to conduct the analysis are journals, articles, books, and the internet. The result of the analysis shows that women can also participate in public and society when they are given the same opportunity as men have. This community service activity is included to the community partnership program. The targets are people who are not economically productive, they are the students of elementary school (SD), junior high school (SMP), and senior high school (SMA) in Pondok Babadan Baru, RT.01, RW. 13, Beji, East Ungaran. The activities carried out in this program are handling problems in learning English for students during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to most students, English subject is a difficult subject. To make it being easy, it needs a practice when we learn a language. In fact, most students do not use English in their daily life. One of the reasons is because of unsupportive environment, such as parents who cannot speak English. Another problem is in the learning system used in the pandemic era that is online learning. Even though students are familiar with technology, the technology used for learning is still foreign to them. Therefore, this community service activity will help students increasing their motivation in learning English during the pandemic so that their ability in reading, listening, speaking and writing using English can improve. The method of service activities applied is in the form of assistance in learning English through Google Meet application. The result of this service activity is increased students’ motivation in learning English during the pandemic which makes students to be confident in using English. The results of this activity are expected to be used as guidelines in dealing with children's problems in learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This community service is one of the activities in the community partnership program. The targets are people who are not economically productive, namely the students of the Qur'an Education Park/ TPQ Asy Syifa' Darussalam in Ringinarum District, Kendal Regency. The activity carried out in this community partnership program is to provide teaching about character education to children with video media. Animated videos were chosen as learning materials because children are usually more interested and easier to learn and understand something based on audio visuals. The study method on the results of this community service uses a qualitative descriptive study. The results of the activity showed that the children were quite enthusiastic in learning the material from the videos provided. The children looked more interactive in the discussion and question and answer (QA) sessions after the video screening and presentation of the material. They are also motivated to learn and practice moral values in their daily lives, so that the children not only will be able to learn religious education, but they will also have a good attitude and behavior.
