Abstract

Video as an audio-visual material in teaching English has grown rapidly and it is obvious that the use of video is a great help for students in stimulating and facilitating the target language. This study tries to solve students? speaking problems and improve speaking ability by using video. The writer uses Classroom Action Research as research design. The implementation of video in teaching speaking class is arranged to bring benefit of the language learners. Video can make the classroom atmosphere more interesting and make students easier to speak. Video also stimulates students to be active.  The students? response about the implementation of video is positive and it will be alternative strategy in teaching speaking. So, video can improve the students? speaking ability.

Abstract

This is a qualitative research on applied linguistic which is conducted to find applied semantic theory about ambiguity, a condition where an utterance has two or more interpretations. The writers uses Kreidler?s theory which classifies ambiguities into three kinds; lexical, referential, and syntactic which is devided into two types; surface structure and deep structure. The discussion includes kinds of ambiguity that are found and their interpretations. The data sources is English advertisement and the data is English advertisement utterances in banners, posters, and billboards. The writers collects the datas by taking in a picture, sellecting, and presenting. The next is analysis and conclusion. There are 33 datas that are found, they are twelve banners, eleven posters, and ten billboards. From banners, there are three lexical, no referential, six surface structure, and three deep structure ambiguities. From posters, there is no lexical, one referential, four surface structure, and six deep structure ambiguities. From billboards, there are two lexical, two referential, four surface structure, and two deep structure ambiguities. Generally, the ambiguities are dominated by surface and deep structure ambiguity.

Abstract

Widely language is interconnected, language, for example, as a means of expression in advertising. Wonderful Indonesia conducted with the aim to analyze the linguistic aspects of the narrator's danger style in persuading from the public or the public about the greatness of Indonesia. The main purpose of this research is to remove the kind of language style features including lexical patterns and lexicon-syntax options that can be metaphorical and prosodic features in the movements of audiences or listeners that are implemented in the advertising of Wonderful Indonesia choice. This research uses a content analysis research design with stilistika approach. The findings show the narrator in the advertisement Wonderful Indonesia applies two types of stylistics with lexical patterns that become: repetition, parallelism, and numbers. The second type is the lexico-syntactic option (figurative language) which is: antithesis and personification.

Abstract

Presupposition in Sense & Sensibility is interesting subject because it is a linguistic phenomenon and a typical phenomenon. Presupposition can be analysis in many fields, one of them is a novel. Novel is one of literature field that interested to be learn because the language of the novel is long lives. The focuses in thisstudyare to describe the existential and non-factive presupposition in Sense & Sensibility novel.

Abstract

Teacher talk otherwise opportunities for second language learning. However, teachers are often unaware how their talk in?uences opportunities for students’ language development in the classroom. This study explores teachers’ talk and its impact on young learners’ interaction in learning environment specifically in Raudhatul Athfal (RA) Muslimat Arif Rahman Jombang. This research using a qualitative design and the data collection techniques from recorded audio-visually; teachers’ talk transcripts; events or occasions which directly or indirectly influence the teachers’ talk. The researchers employ several instruments such as documentation, observation and interview. Data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions were used in the data analysis technique. The finding of this research from the indirect influence category, namely: (1) deals with feelings, (2) Praises or encourages, (3) Uses students’ ideas, and (4) Asks questions. While in the direct influence category, there are five sub categories namely: (1) Gives Information, (2) Corrects without rejections, (3) Gives directions, (4) Criticizes students’ behavior, and (5) Translating (code-switching). It encourages the teacher to look up-close at their teachers’ talk in order to raise their awareness of its impact on language learning.

Abstract

Kemampuan berbahasa dan berkomunikasi merupakan kebutuhan yang esensial untuk awal proses sekolah. Dalam perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan di Indonesia, Bahasa Inggris merupakan ilmu dasar yang harus dipelajari oleh setiap pebelajar. Oleh karena itu, materi Bahasa Inggris sudah dikenalkan sejak pendidikan anak usia dini meskipun sebagai materi tambahan. Maksud dan manfaat dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yaitu menambah wawasan para guru di Taman Kanak-kanak Al Madinah Jombang tentang booklet sebagai Media Edukasi Pembelajaran (MEP) Bahasa Inggris untuk anak usia dini, serta untuk menginspirasi guru dalam mengembangkan MEP Bahasa Inggris yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan anak didik. Permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra yaitu minimnya referensi terkait MEP, khususnya MEP terkait pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk anak usia dini. Adapun metode pelaksanaan yang digunakan terdiri dari tiga tahap: (1) persiapan (perizinan ke mitra & pembuatan materi pelatihan), (2) implementasi dan (3) evaluasi, peyusunan laporan akhir dan publikasi. Adanya pelatihan Booklet berbasis tematik menggunakan aplikasi microsoft publiser menjadi salah satu alternatif MEP Bahasa Inggris di TK Al Madinah, serta memberikan dampak yang positif bagi guru dalam mengembangkan MEP Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Desa Bugasur Kedaleman merupakan desa yang berada di wilayah Kecamatan Gudo sebagian besar penduduknya bermatapencaharian sebagai petani. Potensi  unggulan yang ada di Bugasur Kedaleman yaitu dalam sektor pertanian dan potensi lokal yang berupa buah-buahan khususnya tanaman pohon pisang. Masyarakat setempat minim pengetahuan memanfaatkan buah pisang menjadi sebuah produk makanan dan kerajinan tangan sebagai penguatan ekonomi ibu-ibu kelompok tan. Dalam pengoptimalan ini kami memanfaatkan potensi lokal yang ada untuk diolah menjadi produk makanan Banana Chips dan mengadakan pelatihan untuk pembuatan Kerajinan Tangan Tempat Pensil dari pelepah pisang. Metode pelaksanaan yang diterapkan dalam pengabdian ini  adalah dimulai dengan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Beberapa hasil yang dicapai pada kegiatan ini diantaranya adalah Ibu-Ibu Kelompok Tani sangat antusias mengenai produk hasil olahan dari Buah Pisang menjadi produk makanan Banana Chips dan bisa membantu Ibu-Ibu Kelompok Tani dalam pelatihan pembuatan Kerajinan Tangan Tempat Pensil dari pelepah pisang, serta tercapainya optimalisasi dari potensi lokal yang dimiliki Desa  Bugasur  Kedaleman, Dusun Kedaleman, Kec.Gudo

Abstract

The Kampus Mengajar program is one of the government programs in which college students from all over Indonesia can participate. The placement of the Kampus Mengajar program is in marginal schools that are lagging in elementary and junior high schools. Students are expected to serve in these schools as help staff. Therefore, self-efficacy is important to support their ability to complete their assignments. This study aimed to determine students’ self-efficacy in the Kampus Mengajar program in English Department STKIP PGRI Jombang. This study adapted the three dimensions of self-efficacy from Bandura's theory, namely the level dimension, generalization dimension, and strength dimension. The respondents of this study were students majoring in English from STKIP PGRI Jombang who took part in the Kampus Mengajar program batch 3. There are 8 of them and they take part in the Kampus Mengajar program in semester 5. A qualitative case study was used in this research. The research instruments are questionnaires and interviews to get accurate results. The type of questionnaire used was a closed-ended questionnaire and the results were strengthened by the interview process. The results show that the respondents have self-efficacy to carry out the assignment in the Kampus Mengajar placement school program. Keywords: Self-Efficacy, Kampus Mengajar, Bandura’s Theory
