Abstract

Humans as socio-cultural creatures can never be separated from the use of symbols, including symbols related to linguistics, which are used as sacred symbols in Hinduism in Bali, namely scripts, both Wreastra and Wijaksara Scripts. Hindus in Bali, for the most part, consider that the Wreastra script is only an ordinary script, which has no philosophical meaning, making researchers interested in studying the philosophical meaning in the Wreastra Script that is accompanied by the study of Wijaksara Script.Starting from this background, there are several research problem formulations, namely what is the meaning of the Wreastra and the Wijaksara Scripts in Hinduism. To answer these problems, the researcher use structural theories, semiotic theories, and theories of meaning. This type of research is qualitative research, with a philosophical-symbolic approach. The results of this study are the Wreastra and Wijaksara scripts have a meaning as worship to the God with all its manifestations adjusted to the script used. The application of the Wreastra and Wijaksara scripts in religious ritual activities in Bali as part of socio-religious activities can be seen from its use in the Rerajahang Kajang, Ulap-Ulap and Pecaruan rites. The conclusion that can be drawn is that the Wreastra and Wijaksara scripts have a high philosophical meaning of God, so that in writing and its use is not arbitrary, always starting with prayer of worship to the God.

In Bali, according to the concept of its society, education is translated by local values in a simple way, such as learning while travelling, learning while singing, learning while playing a game and so on. The Balinese folklore (Satua) is an implementation of Hindu values which give an understanding on conscience and behaviour to the children since early age. This research is a qualitative research using the hermeneutics method. Bali has many literary heritages which are full of the value of character education, one of them is Satua Bali. Among the many Satua that are available, Satua that will be used is Satua I Nengah Tinggen's with titled Anak Agung di Mesir. He is one of the Balinese literary maestros. The activity of writing Balinese script on lontar media only started at the 4th meeting, which began with an introduction to the tools used in writing lontar. The tools that need to be prepared include: Pangrupak, Blangko Lontar, rubber/Panyepit, Lungka-Lungka, and candlenut that has been burned. Abstract

Lontar Taru pramana is one of the healing lontars. The existence of medicinal plants contained in the lontar, along with the times, is increasingly being abandoned. This also has an impact on the survival of the vocabulary of medicinal plants. Therefore, it is necessary to study the durability of the vocabulary. Based on the results of interviews conducted, the vocabulary of traditional medicinal plants in lontar taru pramana in Padangaji Village still survives. Of the 156 traditional medicinal plants listed in the lontar taru pramana text, 102 types of plants are known by the Padangaji community, but the persistence of the use of traditional medicinal plants in lontar taru pramana in Padangaji Village has not survived. This is because of the 156 types of medicinal plants found in lontar taru pramana, only 40 plants are known to be used by the Padangaji community or only 25%. The survival of the vocabulary of traditional medicinal plants in the Taru pramana lontar manuscript is not closely related to the persistence of the use of traditional medicinal plants in the village.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the development of the Balinese language from the Old Balinese period to the present as a diachronic study of language. The source of the data is obtained through a literature study, namely looking for references that are considered relevant to the problem under study. The theoretical approach used is a historical linguistic approach through diachronic language studies and the methodological approach uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of this study show that Balinese vocabulary is influenced by various languages including Sanskrit, Old Javanese, Dutch, English, Portuguese, Chinese, and Arabic. Vocabulary from other languages is fully absorbed and some are experiencing changes from the original vocabulary. Absorption of vocabulary from other countries cannot be separated from interactions that occur with Balinese people, such as trade relations, colonialism, and the spread of religion.
