Abstract

Penelitian ini menggunakan objek film Inggris dengan English subtitle bahasa Inggris. Menonton film Inggris dengan subtitle bahasa Inggris dapat menjadi salah satu cara alternatif dalam mengajarkan kemampuan berbahasa berkaitan dengan keterampilan listening. Akeelah and the Bee adalah film yang akan digunakan oleh peneliti untuk memfasilitasi dan memotivasi siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris dari keterampilan listening dengan antusias tanpa beban apapun. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan listening siswa melalui penggunaan film Inggris dengan English subtitle dan tahu bagaimana listening instruction menggunakan film Inggris dengan subtitle bahasa Inggris mempengaruhi sikap dan kinerja dalam mendengarkan siswa. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas dalam program sarjana dari Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Pendidikan di Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang pada tahun akademik 2014/2015. Pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner, catatan pengamatan kinerja, pre-test dan posttest. Penelitian dilakukan dengan model siklus melalui langkah-langkah perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan hubungan yang signifikan antara belajar siswa dengan film Inggris dengan subtitle yang berhubungan dengan keterampilan mendengarkan mereka seperti yang ditunjukkan dalam perbaikan mereka dari post test dan tanggapan positif dari siswa. Kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa lebih dari 75% siswa merasa mudah untuk memahami materi listening dari penutur asli. Akibatnya, ia menyarankan bahwa proses belajar mengajar menggunakan film Inggris dengan subtitle bahasa Inggris dianjurkan dalam proses pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkan siswa di kelas bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui opini siswa mengenai implementasi kegiatan mengajar menulis (writing) dengan menggunakan penelitian tindakan (action research) yang dilakukan di kelas VIII-2 di MTs Nurrussalam Tersono Batang tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Disimpulkan bahwa respon siswa terhadap proses pembelajaran teks naratif melalui picture & picture dan think pair share bagus. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kolaborasi antara picture & picture dengan think pair share membuat para siswa lebih mudah untuk menulis teks naratif, dan membuat mereka lebih mudah di dalam mengeksplorasi ide mereka di dalam menulis teks naratif serta membuat mereka antusias di dalam mengikuti proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

Melalui pendidikan bahasa Inggris diharapkan mahasiswa mampu berbahasa Inggris secara lisanmaupun tulis sebagai life skill sesuai dengan tingkat perkembangan literacy mereka. Untukmeningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa mahasiswa SI Ilmu Keperawatan UNIMUS dalam hal menulisteks report, penulis mencoba menerapkan strategi semantic mapping pada tahap joint construction oftext. Hasil yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini yaitu melalui penerapan strategi semantic mappingketerampilan menulis teks report mahasiswa berdasarkan hasil tes kognitifnya dapat meningkatmenjadi 76,33 yang melebihi standar keberhasilan kinerja yang ditetapkan yaitu 70. selain ituberdasarkan hasil observasi, angket dan wawancara menunjukkan adanya peningkatakan keaktifandan ketertarikan mahasiswa terhadap pembelajaran menulis teks report menggunakan strategisemantic mapping

Abstract

The quality of English speaking for  tour guides in Lawang Sewu need to improve in line with the globalization of tourism in Central Java that is being launched to bring a lot of tourists from within the country and abroad are known by the slogan “Visit Jateng 2013”. In accordance with this statement, we did “Pengabdian Masyarakat” dedicated servant of the community for group of guides of Lawang Sewu . the group was divided into two associations and community i.e. paguyuban siang and paguyuban sore. So far, the problems faced by your group Lawang Sewu is how to improve their English language skills with practical, efficient, and does not complicate the psychological learning and motivate them to be ready to serve foreign tourists.  The priority issues of partners (mitra)are how to improve English language skills of Lawang Sewu guides of Semarang, the absence of a practical and efficient guide to practice speaking and storytelling in English for your group Lawang Sewu Semarang, and the realization of the increase in the English language in guide of Lawang Sewu Semarang with appropriatemethods and interesting.  Targets and outcomes of science and technology activities (IPTEKS) for the community of quide in Lawang Sewu Semarang namely; increasing mastery of the English language for guide in Lawang Semarang with Drill method and Repetition, certificates for the guide, English guide to savings, increased motivation and psychological cont ol if travelers face bothdomestically and abroad so as to become a professional guide, and CD of English instruction to guide the improvement of the English language.  The solution offered in our devotion is to increase English skills of guides in Lawang Sewu Semarang, producing methods, materials, methods, and guidelines that are effective, and realize an increasing in their English skills. Therefore, Lawang Sewu is expected to become a symbol of quality foreign tourism by having a guide that is fluent in English.

Abstract

Abstract. The ENP materials integrated with TBLT and soft-skills that suit the learners interests and needs contributed to facilitate students learning can prepare students for professional communication order to be ready in global competitive work. The research aimed to find out the existing ENP materials, to develop ENP Materials integrated with TBLT and soft-skills, and to know the effectiveness of implementing Developed ENP materials. The research employed R&D cycles including introductory phase, developing phase, testing and validating phase, and implementing phase. The data collecting techniques were validation sheet, test, observation and questionnaire. The results showed the developed ENP materials were valid, effective and practical. The validity was proved with validation mean of score were excellent and good category based on scoring rubrics. The effectiveness is proved by students learning achievement test with mean score 79. The practicality is proved with student responses 80% who enjoyed to use the ENP materials in learning.

Abstract

Listening skill is the first skill learned in learning language. The research will use English movie by English subtitle. Watching English movie by English subtitle can be the one of alternative way in teaching Listening comprehension. Akeelah and the Bee is the movie that will be used by researcher to facilitate and motivate students in learning English of listening skills enthusiastically without any burden. The study was conducted using classroom action research in undergraduate program of English Education Department at Semarang Muhammadiyah University in the academic year 2014/2015. The data was collected from a questionnaire, observation note of performance, pre-test and posttest. The study was conducted with cycle model through the steps of planning, conducting, observation, and reflection. The results of this study show a significant relationship between students' learning by English movie with subtitle related to their listening skills as shown in their improvement of post test and positive responses of students. The questionnaire shows that more than 75% students felt easy to understand listening materials from native speakers. Consequently, it was suggested that teaching learning process using English movie with English subtitle is recommended into learning process to improve students' listening skills in English language classroom.Keywords: English movie, English subtitle and listening skill

Abstract

Homestay merupakan bagian penting promosi wisata lokal yang sangat membantu pengembanganpariwisata khususnya desa wisata. Hal ini harus didukung dengan kemampuan berbahasa Inggrispara pemilik homestay di desa tersebut yang seharusnya siap menerima wisatawan mancanegara yangdatang. Tetapi pada kenyataannya kemampuan mereka cenderung relatif rendah karena rata-ratamemiliki latar belakang pendidikan yang minim. Berdasarkan  pernyataan tersebut, kegiatan inimemfokuskan pada peningkatan daily conversation bahasa Inggris bagi pemilik homestay desa wisataKandri Gunungpati Semarang yang lokasinya berjarak lebih kurang 30 km dari Kampus UniversitasMuhammadiyah Semarang. Perumusan masalah yang mucul adalah adanya latar belakangpengalaman belajar bahasa Inggris kelompok pemilik homestay masih rendah karena latar belakangpendidikan mereka yang relatif minim. Kebanyakan para warga adalah lulusan Sekolah Menengahyang memiliki kemampuan bahasa Inggris sebatas yang mereka dapat di sekolah dan rata-rata sudahberumur sehingga mengalami kesulitan untuk mengingat kosakata baru. Berdasarkan permasalahantersebut, para warga membutuhkan materi atau cara pelatihan bahasa Inggris yang efektif danpelatihan manajemen untuk meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan homestay yang memuaskan. Metodeyang digunakan adalah drill dan repetition, pelatihan, dan penyuluhan yaiitu; meningkatkan dailyconversation dalam bahasa Inggris untuk kelompok pemilik homestay Kandri Semarang, sertifikat bagipara pemilik homestay, panduan bahasa Inggris untuk pemilik homestay, peningkatan manajemenpelayanan homestay sehingga mampu menjadi homestay desa wisata yang profesional, dan pembuatanweb untuk promosi homestay desa wisata Kandri Gunungpati Semarang. Hasil yang diperoleh adalahadanya peningkatan kemampuan daily conversation bahasa Inggris para kelompok pemilik homestaydesa wisata Kandri Gunungpati Semarang, pembuatan buku panduan yang praktis dan efisien untukpraktek berbicara dan bercerita dalam bahasa Inggris bagi para kelompok pemilik homestay desawisata Kandri Gunungpati Semarang, dan peningkatan manajemen pelayanan homestay yangmemuaskan. Abstract

Technology, education, and internet have been one of education’s part in this era. Learning independently is one of the choice for many students, not only effective to get understand but also time effectiveness are some of the reasons. All the thing that we learnt in the school is how to improve speaking, listening, writing, and reading skill. That’s why pronunciation become hidden subject which students don’t have to learn it. The problem in our education is English still foreign language for us, so it would be difficult to learn pronunciation autonomuosly or independently. Speechnote is one of the application which was created by WellSource for dictating spoken language to written language with high accuracy. The application helped students to learn pronunciation independently without being watched by the expert. The used method is descriptive-kualitatife and data collective which are recording and filling out questionnaire by 36 participants of students X.IS-1 SMA N 15 Semarang. The result of this research are the error of aplication, the accuracy of recording,recognizing misspronunciation, and the connection of increasing pronunciation by using speechnote.

Abstract

This study was attempted to describe the effective use of Edmodo and Schoology in teaching speaking and the students’ perception of the application practicality in the learning process. It is an experimental study. The subject of the study was eleventh-grade students of MAN N 2 Semarang. There were two groups in this study; experimental group (E) at XI IPA 3 and the control group (C) at XI IPA 5. The research instruments were tests (pre and post-test), questionnaires, and audio documentation. The t-test or value obtained was (0.325) and t result was lower than t table (1.66724). Hence, it can be said that both the learning management system (LMS) using Edmodo and Schoology had equal effects to improve students’ speaking performance. It was proved by the mean value of pre-test and post-test, in which the experimental group was 67.71 and 69.71. Meanwhile, in the control group, there were 66.53 and 68.57. Moreover, the result of the questionnaire was 3.40 for students' perception as good criteria related to the practicality in the experimental group. Then, there were 3.42 on good criteria related to the practicality in the control group. It means that the teacher can use either Edmodo or Schoology LMS system in teaching speaking to achieve students’ speaking performance, particularly on pronunciation and grammar. In conclusion, Edmodo and Schoology are effective to teach speaking in eleventh graders.

Abstract

Hal ini harus didukung dengan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris para pemilik homestay di desa tersebut yang seharusnya siap menerima wisatawan mancanegara yang datang. Tetapi pada kenyataannya kemampuan mereka cenderung relatif rendah karena rata-rata memiliki latar belakang pendidikan yang minim. Berdasarkan pernyataan tersebut, tim pengabdi kami memfokuskan pengabdian masyarakat untuk meningkatkan daily conversation bahasa Inggris, pengelolaan web homestay, manajemen pelayanan dan pemasaran, serta tata kelola homestay bagi pemilik homestay desa wisata Kandri Gunungpati Semarang. Dari program pelatihan pengabdian masyarakat tersebut dihasilkan peningkatan kemampuan berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris, peningkatan pengelolaan web homestay yang mendukung promosi desa wisata, peningkatan manajemen pelayanan dan pemasaran homestay bagi para pemilik homestay desa wisata Kandri Semarang.
