Abstract

This research was a study to examine the students motivation on speakingthrough talking stick and snowball throwing. It used descriptive quantitative. It meant that this research would find the students motivation toward the use of talking stick and snowball throwing method. The subect of research was the eighth grade of SMPN 3 Tegowanu. There were 44 students. The data analysis of this research were questionnaire and video documentation. Based on the research result, the students motivation of questionnaire were3.38 students response very good in the use of talking stick in the experimental class. Than, there were 3.00 students response was good in the use of snowball throwing method. It meant that the students have a motivation to the learning process especially in speaking skill. Meanwhile, the result of the video documentation showed that the students motivation became better than in the previous meeting. The students who really felt ashamed at the beginning now they are not as ashamed as before. The students be more confident that at the beginning they always hide their face and ashamed to speak up because of less confident. Even their motivation for sepaking much better after being given the method of talking stick and snowball throwing. Then, the researcher suggests that the teacher could use talking stick and snowball throwing method in teaching speaking to achiev students speaking ability.

Abstract

Reading skill is very important for students who mostly learn English through written text. They need some models from the teacher in comprehending reading text especially report text. This condition happened in SMA Negeri 1 Gubug. They still needed some models and attractive method in comprehending report text. They also felt less motivated and noisy when they read a text without any attractive activities. Therefore, this research is focused on the analysis of students ‘perception using Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition in teaching reading report text. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative one. It used questionnaire as the data collection. The results of this research showed that the students’ perception in reading report text using Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition had good responses and they joined the discussion enthusiastically. To sum up, the use of Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition gives a good impact for the students’ reading ability viewed from their perception.

Abstract

This research aimed to find the significant differences of students achievement in writing procedure text using team pair solo and think pair share, This research used a quantitative and experimental method. The research design was pretest posttest control group. The population was the students of class VII SMPN 33 Semarang by using simple random sampling was VII D as the experimental group, VII C as the control group, and VII B as the tryout class. The research instruments used were test and questionnaire. The result of the test is t arithmetic is lower than t table so the hypothesis is not accepted. It means that there is no significant difference of students achievement in writing procedure text between students who were taught writing using team pair solo and those who were taught by using think pair share. The result of posttest in experimental class is 77.61 and control class is 77.38.

Abstract

Students had difficulties to focus and got the idea to write their research report when they asked to finish their writing in certain time.Therefore, the researchers conducted the research on applying Problem Based learning (PBL) to support the Active Student Responding (ASR) in writing. Theobjectives of this research is to describe the studentsresponses in writing academic research especially their final project. The subjects of this study are the eighth semester of Universitas Terbuka who join Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional subjects. The research methodology is descriptive quantitative.The sampling technique of the research is simple random sampling which uses 20 students from the eighth semester. The data obtained from questionnaire and observation.The reserach study concludes that the application of Problem Based Learning (PBL) encourage students to be creative in writing and enhance studentscritical thinking in solve theproblem. They tend to have a big effort to finish writing on their final project. It can be seen from the means result of studentsconcept learning questionnaire 69.8%. It meant that there were a big motivation from the students to write their research project.

Abstract

This study discussed about an evaluation of textbook analysis entitled “Cambridge English Idiom in Used Advanced” written by written by Felicity O’Dell and Michael McCarthy. In this study, the textbook was analyzed using rubric of textbook evaluation in term of layout and design, activities, language type, materials, subject and content. From the discussion, it can be concluded that the book is suitable for advanced learner in term of the composition, given example, exercises and context.

Abstract

Writing is one of English skills that students should master. There are some levels of writing described as follows: word-based writing, sentence-based writing, paragraph-based writing, genre-based writing and academic writing. Due to the above statements, students find it difficult to organize sentences into a coherent paragraph. Thus, the researcher conducts a research on analysis of student responses on a paragraph based writing course which uses a method of circle the sage based on critical thinking. This research uses a method of descriptive analysis. The data are collected using questionnaires to obtain the student responses on course learning of paragraph based writing through a method of circle the sage based on critical thinking. A descriptive-qualitative data analysis is used to analyze the learning achievement of a paragraph-based writing course through a method of circle the sage based on critical thinking. From the research results, it shows that lecturers are expected to use more applicable methods or techniques to enable students to have critical thinking to put their ideas in writing a paragraph

Abstract

Technology, education, and internet have been one of education’s part in this era. Learning independently is one of the choice for many students, not only effective to get understand but also time effectiveness are some of the reasons. All the thing that we learnt in the school is how to improve speaking, listening, writing, and reading skill. That’s why pronunciation become hidden subject which students don’t have to learn it. The problem in our education is English still foreign language for us, so it would be difficult to learn pronunciation autonomuosly or independently. Speechnote is one of the application which was created by WellSource for dictating spoken language to written language with high accuracy. The application helped students to learn pronunciation independently without being watched by the expert. The used method is descriptive-kualitatife and data collective which are recording and filling out questionnaire by 36 participants of students X.IS-1 SMA N 15 Semarang. The result of this research are the error of aplication, the accuracy of recording,recognizing misspronunciation, and the connection of increasing pronunciation by using speechnote.

Abstract

This study is aimed at knowing the process of developing website media in the the teaching of “Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional Guru SD” using problem based-learning and blended learning.The subjects of this study are the students taking “Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional Guru SD” course. The development method used in this study is the one proposed by Hoge, Tondore, and Marelli.  The results showed that the media development application using website is appropriate to be used in the tutorial teaching in the classroom. It is proven by the validation result, that is the appropriateness between the indicator of concept, content, presentation, competence and the tutorial planning and syllabus, and also the tutorial materials of “Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional” course. There are also positive responds from the students after this website media is implemented. This also motivates the students in joining the tutorial. The tutors are expected to use the interesting teaching and learning model to improve the students’ responds and motivation in joining the tutorial.Keywords: Blended Learning, development , Problem-based learning, Pemantapan Kemampuan Profesional course.

Abstract

One of the consequences of teachers as functional positions is that teachers are required to carry out continuous professional development (PKB), so they can carry out their duties and functions professionally. Continuous professional development is the development of teacher competencies carried out in accordance with the needs, gradually, continuously to improve their professionalism; one of them is scientific publication (KTI) or academic writing. This study aims to determine the process of designing the Task Based Language Teaching method in scientific writing material and examine the learning outcomes of elementary school teachers who take tutorial courses on Scientific Work Writing Techniques based on Task Based Language Learning. The subjects of this study were students who took the eight semester of Scientific Writing Techniques course. The method of this research used the modified 4-D instructional development model of Thiagarajan, Semmel and Semmel (4-D models). The methods of collecting data used interviewing, observing, test, and filling out questionnaires. The results show that the application of the Task Based Language Teaching method is appropriate to use in classroom tutorial teaching by considering the results of validation, namely conformity to concept indicators, content feasibility indicators, presentation indicators, and competency indicators with existing RAT and SAT along with Engineering learning modules Writing Scientific Work. Furthermore, students' self-concept is good in learning the Scientific Writing Technique in the tutorial class. This means that students' self-concept had a good improvement and reached a percentage above 70%. This proves that the application of the Task Based Language Teaching method runs seamlessly and according to what is expected. All in all, the students are more enthusiastic and challenging in writing research articles.
