Abstract

One of the most vulnerable issues to be the trigger for conflict is the issue of identity. The sense of identity can quickly turn into a response to threats. The response to these threats will often end up in conflict. Ethnicity is one of the dimension of identity. Ethnic conflicts often show that ethnicity is the cause of the outbreak of conflict but the root causes of ethnic conflict can not be seen from a single factor because ethnic conflict is a fairly complex conflict. Sampit conflict is one of the conflicts involving ethnicity occurring in Indonesia but this conflict certainly can not be viewed solely as a conflict between ethnic Dayaks and Madurese, using the approach of Theory of Deprivation by Robert Ted Gurr, the various allegations of the outbreak of ethnic conflict in Sampit actually led at one conclusion that there has been a deprivation within society that causes the community to feel frustrated and ultimately to act aggression. To find out and analyze the deprivation condition that occurred in Sampit first we must know and understand about the situation and conditions in Sampit before the conflict broke out in 2001. The exposure will be focused on the social, political, economic and cultural conditions of the people of Central Kalimantan, especially between the two conflicting ethnic groups that are ethnic Dayaks and Madurese. Abstract

The phenomenon of cultural violence involving children and adolescents in Indonesia shows an increasing number from year to year. This causes cases in the world of education to be in the top four after cybercrime and pornography. The phenomenon of cultural violence was born because so far the education system in Indonesia has only focused on the transfer of knowledge while aspects of character development and the cultivation of moral values have received minimal attention. The Indonesian government itself realizes the importance of overcoming the problem of cultural violence in children and adolescents, the government then issued Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 82 of 2015. However until 2018, the number of cases of cultural violence in children and adolescents is still very high. There is another approach that can be taken to complement existing efforts, namely through peace education. The main goal of peace education is to create and increase tolerance in children and adolescents. Keywords: peace education, cultural violence, children and adolescents

Abstract

Terrorism and radicalism have been a global threat since the United States declared war on terrorism in 2001. Since then, no country in the world has escaped the threat of terrorism. Terrorism itself not only happens because of radical understanding but also because of the threat to sense of identity. The threat to this sense of identity is often responded by a radical-minded person or group of people using open violence. The threat to sense of identity according to Johan Galtung is included in cultural violence, where if cultural violence continues to get ignored it will appear open acts of violence. The countries of the world continue to cope with the threat of terrorism and radicalism, both through the hard approach and soft approach, which both approaches the perpetrators of terrorism itself while referring to the triangle of the Galtung’s conflict, there are other approaches that can be done to prevent radicalism and terrorism namely by overcoming cultural violence and creating tolerant society conditions amid identity heterogeneity. Keywords: Terorism, Radicalism, Identity, Cultural Violence

Abstract

In 2020, the Black Lives Matter movement has gained the attention of international society. The movement that started in the United States is now resonating in Australia. Australia itself has a long history of racial discrimination against Aborigines. Even though the Australian government has formally apologized for its racial discrimination policies in the past and made a number of efforts to improve the lives of Aborigines, in fact, the lives of Aborigines are still far from prosperous. Even the death rate of Aborigines in prison is the highest in the world. Using the New Social Movement Theory, the author analyzes that social conditions in Australian society have created a dominant conflict, this is what causes the Black Lives Matter movement resonate in Australia. Through Amartya Sen’s thoughts, the author provides a solution that is expected to be able to stop various acts of racial discrimination.
