In 2019, a rape case involving two students of UGM went viral. After being headlines in many news articles, the case was settled in February, and one of the newspapers which cover this news is The Jakarta Post who released an article entitled ‘UGM settles alleged sexual abuse case’. Through systemic functional grammar, this study attempts at analyzing the transitivity processes and participants in the article, and it aims at describing how it signifies the power relation and representation in the article. This is a qualitative study which applied critical discourse analysis, and the data used are sentences and clauses taken from the news article. To analyze the data, the researcher applied Halliday’s transitivity theory and Fairclough’s theory on power and representation. The results of the study reveal that there is an unequal representation in the article where it gives more opportunities for UGM to deliver their statement and argument since UGM holds more power than the other participants.

Since newspapers is a one way communication where they provide information and people receive it, the readers have to be able to understand the whole messages without the chance to clarify and to ask the other parties. This paper aims at revealing the type of metonymy and metaphor used in five selected news articles related to sports in The Jakarta Post, and describing why metonymy and metaphor are used in the news articles. Furthermore, this research is a qualitative research which aims at describing and discussing about the use of metaphor and metonymy in the news articles related to sports. The result revealed that there are only two types of metonymy found in the news articles namely represented entity for representative and whole for part where the most dominant type is represented entity for representative. Furthermore, all types of metaphor can be found in the data, but the most dominant type is structural metaphor. These articles tend to use represented entity for representative since it discusses about athletes and teams which play as the representative of their country. Meanwhile, the dominant use of structural metaphor because the writer tend to describe the athletes and teams as another concrete object.

Purpose: This research aimed to determine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of marketing strategies in increasing occupancy rate at the Jayakarta Lombok Beach Resort & Spa, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Research methods: The analysis techniques used were quantitative Descriptive Analysis, Qualitative Descriptive Analysis, Internal Factor Analysis Summary (IFAS) Matrix, External Factor Analysis Summary (EFAS) Matrix, Internal - External (IE) Matrix, SWOT Analysis, and Quantitative Strategic Planning Analysis (QSPM) Matrix. Findings: Based on the results of IFAS matrix analysis, the main strength wasobtaining benefits from room usagein line with the reality from which room sales couldincrease hotel revenue. Based on the results of EFAS matrix analysis, the main opportunity was the government's policy related to the COVID19 pandemic with use the hotel as a place of isolation. Implication: The results of IE Matrix analysis put the company in the position of Growth Strategic (Cell II).

This study examines Prabowo’s speech during the first national address of the 2019 pre-election campaign. It aims at revealing the types of modality, modal value, and modal responsibility employed in the speech, and describing how the choice of modality reflects Prabowo’s attitude and strategy to win the 2019 presidential election. This study is qualitative research that applies Halliday’s theory of modality in systemic functional grammar. The results reveal that 1) he used modulation inclination frequently to show his determination to help people, 2) the dominant use of median modal value in inclination reveals that rather than determined he is just keen to help, the domination of high modal value in obligation signified that he believes he has the power to make people follow his instruction, and the frequent use of low modal value in probability indicated that he is not certain about the information he shares, 3) the domination of subjective implicit subject shows that Prabowo tend to emphasize his dominance and superiority in the communication process, and he strongly believes that he can realize all his promises when he becomes the president and he is ready to take responsibility if he cannot.Penelitian ini menganalisis pidato kebangsaan Prabowo Subianto dalam kampanye pra-pemilu 2019. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkapkan tipe-tipe modality, modal value dan modal responsibility  yang dipakai Prabowo dalam pidato tersebut, dan untuk menjelaskan bagaimana pilihan modality tersebut merefleksikan sikap dan strategi Prabowo dalam visi misinya untuk memenangkan pemilu 2019. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dan menggunakan teori modality dalam Systemic Functional Grammar oleh Halliday. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 1) Prabowo menggunakan modulation inclination untuk menunjukkan tekad membantu rakyat dan membawa Indonesia kearah yang lebih baik, 2) dominasi penggunaan  modal berskala medium keinginan (inclination) menunjukkan bahwa Prabowo hanya berkeinginan untuk membantu negara, tidak sampai tahap bertekad, dominasi penggunaan modal berskala tinggi dalam tipe kewajiban (obligation) menunjukkan kepercayaan diri Prabowo bahwa ia memiliki kekuasaan untuk membuat pendukungnya menuruti perintahnya, dominasi penggunaan modal berskala rendah dalam tipe kemungkinan (probability) menunjukkan bahwa Prabowo tidak terlalu yakin akan informasi yang ia bagikan dalam pidatonya, 3) dominasi penggunaan subjek implisit subjektif menunjukkan bahwa Prabowo cenderung menggunakan gaya komunikasi dimana dia menjadi pihak yang dominan dan superior, dan ia sangat percaya ia dapat menepati semua janjinya saat ia terpilih dan siap menghadapi konsekuensinya jika tidak dapat menepati janji-janji tersebut.

This research aimed to find out the documentation of green hotel practices implemented by The Apurva Kempinski Bali, Indonesia, based on the indicators developed by Earth Check known as 10 key performance areas for hotel-accommodation business. Methods of data collection used are by conducting interviews with key and supporting informants, observation techniques using participant observation, literature review, and document study. The data analysis method used is qualitative research through transcript data, data reduction, data displaying, and concluding. The result of this research shows that The Apurva Kempinski Bali has fulfilled the requirements of the certification and has applied the green hotel practices within the hotel area to support sustainable developments including energy efficiency, freshwater resources, waste-water management, solid waste management, ecosystem and conservation, land use planning, air quality protection, management of social and cultures, and harmful substances management. Some improvements need to be taken into account such as the renewable energy generation potential evaluation, shower, and taps low flow installation, and sustainable room amenities materials. It is a critical and important advantage for the hotel as well to attract more guests to stay, since the topic of sustainability nowadays has become famous which affecting the decision of guest to staying in the hotel. This paper is focusing on the documentation of green hotel practices that has been implemented by The Apurva Kempinski Bali in order to support sustainable development goals.

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the application of digital marketing dimensions and the influence of digital marketing on room occupancy rates at the Hilton Bali Re-sort hotel in the Nusa Dua tourism area, Bali, Indonesia. Research methods: The data are obtained from interviews, documentation, litera-ture studies, and distributed questionnaires to 60 respondents. The question-naires data is then processed using the Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square technique (SEM-PLS) by using SmartPLS that presented in the table. Findings: The implementation of each digital marketing dimension by the Hilton Bali Resort management, and the impact of digital marketing in increasing the room occupancy rate at the Hilton Bali Resort. Implication: The hotel management needs to create better quality content and promotional methods through online media so that online media customers know and are interested in products from Hilton Bali Resort.

The objective of the research was  to interpret the type and subtype of directive speech act found in Megawati Sukarnoputri’s political speech during the celebration of PDIP’s 50th anniversary, identify its frequencies and explain what they are used for. This is a qualitative research that applied directive speech act approach. The data in this study were taken from the transcript of the speech. They were interpreted by identifying utterances which applies directive speech act, and categorizing them into different types and subtypes. This research discovered 184 utterances which applied directive speech act where 121 of them were categorized as command, 35 were requests and 28 were suggestions. The most dominant subtype was direct speech act, while indirect speech used occasionally. It additionally revealed that command used to give order, instructions, prohibitions and warnings, requests to ask for cooperation, and support, and express wishes, and suggestions to give advice and opinions.

This research aims to describe and analyze the use of appraisal in selected beauty vloggers’ YouTube videos. It particularly focuses on revealing the types and frequencies of attitudinal appraisal applied in the videos. This study is a descriptive qualitative research which tries to give an in-depth description and analysis of the subject. The data in this study were sentences taken from four beauty vloggers’ videos which are Jeffree Star, Nikkie Tutorials, James Charles and Tati. The researcher gathered the data by first watching the videos, making a transcript of the videos, and watching it more to ensure the accuracy of the transcript. To analyze the data, the researcher applies appraisal theory by Martin and White especially their classification of attitude in appraisal which are appreciation, judgement and affect. This research reveals that there are 416 utterances which applied attitudinal appraisal in the beauty vloggers’ videos. From those utterances, the most dominant type is appreciation with 288 utterances, the second most frequent is affect with 104 utterances and the least applied is judgement with only 24 utterances. The beauty vlogger who most frequently applied attitude is Nikkie Tutorials with a total of 124 utterances, followed by James Charles in the second place with 112 utterances, Tati 95 utterances and Jeffree star in the last position with 85 utterances.
