Abstract

One of the factors influencing learning outcomes is the ability of teachers to implement teaching strategies effectively. A monotonous teaching process can lead to decreased student motivation and lower learning outcomes. This study aims to investigate the teaching strategies used by Catholic Education teachers to enhance student learning outcomes at SMP Negeri 2 Namorambe. The research adopts a qualitative approach, where data obtained is analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings reveal that teachers utilize various strategies to improve student learning outcomes, such as employing instructional models involving syntax, principles of social system response, supportive systems, and instructional impact. Following the implementation of these strategies, student learning outcomes in Catholic Education subjects show improvement across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. The effective classroom management skills of teachers also positively impact student learning outcomes. Therefore, the participation and support of the school community, particularly the school principal, are crucial in facilitating the enhancement of teaching quality and mastery of instructional models among teachers

Abstract

The Young Catholics (OMK) are individuals born and raised within the Catholic tradition from adolescence to early adulthood. Young people often undergo critical identity and faith development during this phase. OMK currently faces challenges and changes in an increasingly complex and dynamic world. Globalisation, technology, and social changes influence their perspectives on their faith values. The objective of this service is to provide spiritual guidance to OMK, enabling them to understand better and embrace their faith. Activities are conducted through lectures and materials on the Catholic faith, interspersed with games, group dynamics, songs and movements, and practical worship practices. The method used in analysing the results of this CommunityService is qualitative. Abstract

Current technological developments have both positive and negative impacts. One of the negative impacts of excessive social media is that it can lead to addiction, cyberbullying, and fear of missing out (FOMO). It can even erode one's identity, as widely circulated videos on social media influence it. This research aims to analyze the relationship between FOMO, problematic use of social media, and expressions of Islamic identity. This research used the FoMO scale, social media disorder scale, and Instagram Islamic identity scale as measuring tools. A quantitative approach was employed, using multiple analyses, which revealed that FOMO and problematic use of social media simultaneously contribute to expressing Islamic identity. The subjects of this research were 177 Indonesian millennial Muslims who actively participated in the Instagram migration movement. Problematic use of social media and expression of Islamic identity effectively contributed 40.6% (36.7% from social media use and 3.9% from FOMO). Additionally, questionable social media use had a significant correlation with the articulation of Islamic identity, while FoMO itself did not correlate with it. These results can serve as a basis for future research on the expression of religious identity on social media and the development of interventions to address excessive social media use.

Abstract

The main issue in the process of Catholic Religious Education (PAK) learning at St. Antonius Bangun Mulia Catholic School in Medan is the suboptimal achievement of student learning outcomes. This is caused by the frequent use of lectures and assignments by PAK teachers. The dominance of such methods leads to boredom and disinterest among students in participating in the learning process. Another issue is the lack of creativity among PAK teachers in finding and implementing alternative teaching methods that can motivate students to engage in PAK learning. In response to these situations, the AMOS method can be used as an alternative method for PAK learning with the aim of improving student learning outcomes. The research subjects in this study were 22 fourth-grade students. The data for this research were obtained from observing the activities of the students and conducting final tests in each cycle. The research data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The results of the study show that the application of the AMOS method can improve student learning outcomes. In the pre-cycle, the percentage of students who completed their learning was 18.18%, while those who did not complete it were 81.82%. In cycle 1, 94.46% of students completed their learning, while 5.54% did not. In cycle 2, 100% of students completed their learning. Based on these research findings, it can be concluded that the use of the AMOS method can improve the learning achievement of fourth-grade students at St. Antonius Bangun Mulia Catholic Elementary School in Medan.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of implementing the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model in enhancing students' motivation in the subject of Catholic Education for Grade V B at SD St. Antonius Bangun Mulia Medan during the academic year 2023/2024. The research adopts an action research approach with two cycles, where the first cycle showed students' motivation levels at a "Moderate" level (64%), while the second cycle exhibited a significant increase to a "High" level (82%). The findings reveal that consistently applying the TGT model enhances students' motivation. This motivation improvement is achieved through group interactions and educational games that create an enjoyable and interactive classroom atmosphere. The study recommends schools to implement the TGT model from the beginning of the semester to allow students time to adapt and experience the benefits of this teaching method, thereby sustaining student motivation throughout the learning process.
