Abstract

Nowadays, technology is growing rapidly. A refrigerator is one of the technology applications by using heat transfer phenomena. However, the existing refrigerators in big size, need large power, and able to damage the ozone because most of the refrigerators utilize CFC. It is necessary to create a compact refrigerator with low energy needed and environmental friendly. In this study, a small cooler box of 24.5 cm x 20 cm x 28.5 cm with 2 modules Peltier SP 1848-27145 type arranged in cascade was used as a refrigerator. The data were logged by using the data logger DAQ MX 9714 NI that was connected to the PC by using LabView. In this experiment, 22 Watt of the electric power was used and 350 ml water was placed on the cooler box room. The results show that the temperature of the cooler box room with a single fan heat pipe is lower than the heat sink fin-fan. Furthermore, the temperature of the cooler box room with the single fan heat pipe where 350ml water was placed is lower than the cooler box room without the single fan. Moreover, the COP of the cooler box is significantly affected by the heat dissipation unit.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to design and determine the performance of a dryer for drying corn with biomass burning energy sources. The dryer consists of a biomass stove, a heat exchanger, and a drying cabinet. The dimensions of the biomass stove are 500 x 500 x 800 mm with a diameter and hole distances of the biomass stove wall is 10 mm and 50 mm, respectively. The heat exchanger pipe diameter is 25.5 mm, the drying cabinet 500 x 500 x 600 mm, and the biomass was rice husk. The heat exchanger is made of stainless steel pipes arranged in a parallel arrangement. A heat exchanger pipe connects the biomass stove to the drying cabinet in order to avoid drying products from burning biomass contamination. The results showed that the drying rate could be faster if the air velocity increases. Drying corn in order to reduce water content from 19% to 12% takes 47 minutes with an air velocity of 3 m/s.

Abstract

One of the efforts made to get a healthy condition is to do regular physical exercise. Regular and measurable exercise will result in optimal physical fitness. Physical exercise is done regularly, according to the needs of each individual and by applying the basic principles of exercise, various benefits will be obtained for the body. The purpose of this activity is to educate and increase target knowledge in determining the type of physical exercise and preparing the correct dose of physical exercise to achieve optimal physical fitness. The participants were the Rectorate Staff of the University of Mataram, totaling 40 people, consisting of 14 men and 26 women. The activity lasted for approximately 120 minutes, located in the Ruang Sidang Utama of the Rectorate of the University of Mataram. The implementation of the activity consists of 5 stages, namely: (1) pretest, (2) delivery of counseling material, (3) simulation of determining the type and dose of physical exercise, (4) discussion, and (5) posttest. From the results of this activity, an increase in the knowledge of participants in the activity was obtained by 38.6%, based on the posttest to pretest scores. Participants have an idea in determining the type of physical exercise and determining the appropriate dose of physical exercise for each of them.

Abstract

Irrigation channels have the potential to be used as power plants. Savonius water turbine can be developed because it has a simple construction and is suitable for low speed, according to the characteristics of the irrigation channel. The objectives of the research were to understand the influence of the installation of concentrator the performance of Savonius water turbine. Concentrator can steer the incoming water flow toward the turbine blades that generate positive moments, consequently, the generated power increases. Variations in the concentration ratios studied were 2: 1, 3: 1, and 4: 1. The results show that adding concentrators can increase torque, turbine power and power coefficient. The best performance of the Savonius water turbine showed is with the concentrator ratio of 3:1.

Abstract

Human dependence on fossil fuels cause the reserves of energy resources is increasingly reduced. To overcome these problems is urgently needed alternative fuels which are cheap and readily available, one alternative fuel is biogas. However, the use of biogas not yet maximized because of low heating value of the biogas produced from the process without purification. Premium fueled vehicle proved to be turned on using biogas. Tests conducted on the variation of the engine rotation of 1500, 2500, 3500, and 4500 rpm and variations of biogas that has been purified using the paste pumice stone with a variation of the flow rate of purification of  2 liters / minute, 6 liter / minute, and 10 liters / minute. In this test should be able to get the best performance in terms of fineness engine rotation (force braking and fuel consumption). From the test results with the variation of rotation and flow rate variations purification of biogas obtained performance of the motor fuel of the best on rotation 4500 rpm with a flow rate of fuel biogas purification of 2 liters / minute produces a torque value of 6.98 Nm and an effective power of 3288.09 Watt while the value SFCE by 0.33 Liter / Jam.Watt. This proves that, biogas purification using paste pumice stone is able to improve quality of biogas.

Abstract

Wind turbine is a technology that converts wind energy to electric power. A Savonius type rotor blade is a simple wind turbine that operates on the concept of drag. The turbine has a potential to be developed as it has a simple construction and it is suitable for low wind speeds. Savonius rotor can be designed with two or three blades in single level or multi-levels. This research was conducted to obtain two levels wind turbine performance characteristics with variations in wind speed and different positions of angle on each level. The variations of the angle position of the wind turbine were 0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90° in each stage. The result shows that the performance of the wind turbine is inversely to the degree of the angle position. The maximum rotation speed of the rotor was about 150.6 rpm that was generated at the wind speed of 5 m/s and the angle position of 0°.

Abstract

Long-term aim of this research is to obtain a biogas what the renewable natural gas quality and can be used to fuel an electric generator to support the availability of electricity in the region of small islands. Specific targets to be achieved is to determine whether the binding of H2S in biogas can raise engine peformance of the machine, information technology and the active materials so comprehensive to absorb hydrogen sulfide gas as materials of the textbook writing and articles for national journals. This research will be conducted a biogas testing in the engine performance, seen from the engine rotation (1500, 2500, 3500 and 4500 rpm) of the electric power generated and subtlety spin machine (braking force, fuel consumption) in both the before purified biogas and biogas has been purified. Results of the research that has been conducted in both the before purified biogas and biogas has been purified on peformance engine that does not change significantly for the better performance of the engine torque, effective power and fuel consumption (biogas) to treat a wide variety. Effect of reduction of H2S contained in the biogas no significant effect on engine performance but are more inclined towards corrosive metal material. Abstract

Clean water is a requirements of very important human life. Indonesia is a maritime country that has many islands surrounded by ocean, had a decreased clean water problem. One of the method to be used for obtain clean water is sea water distillation process. One of the most important tools is absorber distillation. occurs heat transfer from the absorber to the sea water causing, rising sea temperatures cause sea water to evaporate. The rising temperature of the sea water increases the amount of evaporation that occurs. The more the amount of evaporation generated will increase the number of fresh water produced. Increased seawater temperatures by increasing the temperature absorber, so it needs to be analyzed shape of the absorber which one can be produce more clean water than the others, a conclusion of the study indicated that solar distillation plat shape with a huge wave absorber produces more clean water than the others , the average amount of water that is more of 908 ml, compared with a small wave absorber plate only produce 764.4 ml  average a day and a flat plate absorber only produce 599 ml average a day, it is not independent of heat absorption by absorber, solar distillation plat shape with a huge wave absorber absorbs more heat than the other two absorber plates, this has resulted in solar distillation  shape with a huge wave  absorber plate  very well produce more water than the otehrs.

Abstract

Utilization of water energy is essentially using potential energy and kinetic energy, kinetic energy flow of water which is a transformation of gravitational potential energy is used to drive turbines or waterwheels, Savonius turbine has a good Self Starting so it can rotate the rotor even though the fluid speed is low, the same thing the speed of the water flow has a low speed. The purpose of this research is to know the influence of the number of blades on rotation of rotor (n), Torque (T), Rotor power (P), Coefficient of performance (CP), Efficiency system (ɳs), in this study the number of blades used are 2 blades, 3 blades and blades, the blades are then tested without the use of concentrator and by the addition of concentrator. The results of this study indicate that the turbine without concentrator or by using the addition of concentrator obtained the best performance on the number of blade 3 with average CP of 0.12 and 0.13 efficiency system of 9.83% and 11.75% then with the number of blades 2 with CP averaging of 0.10 and 0.11 of efficiency system of 8.73% and 11.00% and the number of 4 blades with CP averaged 0.06 and 0.07 and efficiency system of 3.91% and 4.76%. Using the addition of concentrator may increase the performance of the turbine in water flow savonius seen from the increasing value of CP and system efficiency at each number of blades tested.

Abstract

Our life is completely dependent on a reliable and adequate supply of energy. In other to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, the use of animal dung in producing a renewable alternative source of energy has been proved using cow dung. Concerns over the environment and the rising costs for energy and waste water treatment have caused a resurgence of interest in anaerobic treatment and subsequent use of the biogas produced during this treatment of organic wastes as fuel. Biogas from manure wastes has become a potential renewable energy source for both domestic and commercial usage especially in West Nusa Tenggara. This study aims to investagate the quality and quantity of biogas produced from animal dung. The Cows, buffaloes and horses dung were used in this research using anaerobic biotank proses. The animal dungs were digested in ambient temperature and the water composition of degester was also analysed. The result shows that total volume of biogas produced by horse dung is 577.735 liters, and then cow dung is 373.839 liters, and the smallest production generated by buffalo dung which is 352.975 liters. Moreover, biogas from horse dungs generated the highest power of combustion, followed by cow dung, and buffalo dung, 732,425 watt, 556,521 watt 539,759 watt resfectively.
