Abstract

Termites containing high protein and various enzymes including cellulase enzyme produced by microbes in its digestive system. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the use of termite (Glyptotermes montanus) as poultry feed. One hundred and seventy five, day-old broiler chicks were used for this experiment. The broiler chickens were allotted to seven different diets: (1) control diet containing rice bran without termite (KD), (2) KD + 0.75% dried termites (RK), (3) KD + 1.50% RK, (4) KD + 3.00% RK, (5) KD + 14% fresh termite (RB), (6) KD + 4.29% RB, (7) KD + 8.57% RB. Feed intake, weight gain, feed conversion ratio (FCR), mortality, carcass and visceral were recorded for five weeks experiment. The results showed that chickens fed the diet containing 1.50% RK grew significantly (P<0.05) bigger than other diets. Feed intake of chickens fed KD + 1.50% RK was also significantly (P<0.05) higher than chickens fed other diet but was not significantly (P>0.05) different from feed intake of chickens fed KD, KD + 3.00% RK and KD + 8.57% RB. FCR of chickens fed RK or RB were not significantly different (P>0.05) from FCR of KD diet. Carcass weight of broiler chickens fed KD + 1.50% RK significantly (P<0.05) higher than carcass weight of chickens fed KD diet or improved carcass percentage of about 4.4%. This experiment also showed that the inclusion of termites in the diet significantly (P<0.05) increased percentage of gizzard, heart and abdominal fat weight of chickens.   Key words: Termite, feed ingredient, broiler chicken, carcass

Abstract

The experiment was carried out in the Laboratory of Rice Research Institute Bogor, on October 1996 to February 1997. The aim of the experiment was to study the survival rate and nymphal stages of these cobnies on a set group of rice varieties with different gen of resistance agains tungro disease. How far the source of resistance gen has been broken after the varieties have been planted by farmers alter several years. The source of colonies were taken from Bali, Central Java, West Java and South Sulawesi. Observation has been taken for the survival rate and the nymph period of each colony on each of varieties tested i. e. TO-Cisadane; T1-IR26; T2- Ciliwung; T3-IR 64 and T4-IR 72. The Completed Randomised Design was used to analyze the results. The results indicated that IR 72 still show resistance to N. virescens Bali colony and Centra! Java as shown from the longer of nymph periods compared to Cisadane as control variety. The survival rate was also still tow (21,66%), while on susceptible variety Cisadane reached around 66,66%. However, from West Java and South Sulawesi colonies, IR 72, no significant different has been found with Cisadane. IR26 and Ciliwung found to be resistant against colony of South Sulawesi as indicated from the low of survival rate i.e 10% and 28,33% respectively. IR 64 has been adapted for all colonies tested as shown from the higher of survival rate and the shorter of nymphs periods.

Abstract

Abstract

This research is a developmental research that aimed to produce CTL-based Students' Worksheets using SAKEM (Waste Packaging) in Class X High School Descriptive Text material. The instruments in this study were material and design / media assessment sheets, teacher assessment questionnaires and participant response questionnaires. The study was conducted at SMAN 11 Tebo. Product validation is carried out by material experts, design / media experts. Product testing is done by means of individual trials and small group trials. The results of the study indicated that Students' Worksheets are feasible for use by teachers and students. This can be proven by the validity and practicality of Students' Worksheets. The Students' validity Worksheets could be seen from the results of the validation of material and design / media experts with the category "very good". And also the practicality of English teachers assessment and the students response which a very positive category.
