Abstract

The halal mandatory forces business actors in Papua to carry out halal certification. So far, business actors in Papua do not know the essence of mandatory halal and its implications. This study aims to examine the mandatory halal phenomenon that applies to business actors in Papua. Imam Abu Zahrah's sharia maqasid approach serves to interpret this phenomenon. A qualitative descriptive research method with a phenomenological study approach was used in this study. Data collection by means of passive participatory observation and exploration of normative juridical literature. The results of the study show that mandatory halal is able to have a positive impact on economic growth and development in Papua. With mandatory halal, business actors in Papua can increase the existence of their products, especially for local products in terms of market expansion. From the perspective of Imam Abu Zahrah's maqashid sharia, the mandatory granting of halal certification fulfills maslahah on three elements. First, tahdzib al fard in the form of providing education to business people in Papua about the importance of halal products for consumers. Second, Iqamah Al'Adalah (upholding justice) in the form of the generalization that all products produced by Muslim or non-Muslim business actors have the right to obtain halal certification. Third, Jalb Al Maslahah (public interest) in the form of rights for consumers throughout Indonesia that the products consumed from Papua are clearly halal for the benefit.

Abstract

Western thought’s worldview of the concept of man has influenced much of the theoretical basis of science.  Without realizing it, the Western interpretation of the human concept still raises debates just like the concept of the economic man. The West’s failure to understand the concept of the economic man had an impact on economic problems in the neoclassical era. This study aims to analyze the worldview analogy of Western thinking about human nature from various figures and relate it to the context of economic problems in a neoclassical era. This study uses a conceptual approach. Western interpretations of human nature tend to be based on the nature of animals such as rational animals, zoon politicon, and homo sapiens. Meanwhile, in an economic aspect, humans are considered selfish, materialistic, self-interested, greedy, and always want to gain power. The worldview of various Western figures in interpreting human economics leads to the rationality of materialism. It can be said that the Western worldview fails in understanding the human concept. Failure to understand this concept raises complex economic problems in the neoclassical era such as scarcity, climate crisis, poverty, and welfare. Because human nature is uncontrollably exploiting nature through production activities to increase wealth is a main factor.

Abstract

Waqf is one of the financial instruments that can improve the socioeconomic status of Ummah. However, the number of waqf assets exceeds expectations due to a lack of proper management. This study aims to unveil the implementation of the Socioeconomic well-being of Waqf Board Management, taking the case of the Muhammadiyah Waqf Council in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This research employs descriptive analysis through structured interviews, passive participation observation, and documentation. The study found that the principles of socio-economics well-being have been implemented by the Waqf Board Management of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta in the form of accountability, including compliance and Integrity, Administration, Programs, Practice, and Finance. The principle of transparency includes the level of openness in the delivery of public services, ease of understanding of the rules and procedures for providing services, and the availability of information on various fields of public administration. This paper implies the massive policy direction of Waqf Board Management among the Muhammadiyah Organization in Indonesia, which is the second largest Muslim organization in the country, to ameliorate the way of implementing the socio-economics of waqf management.
