Abstract

The study was aimed to evaluate the increasing levels of ration energy, with fat-rich unsaturated fatty acids from sunflower oil on the nutrient intake, rumen fermentability and performance of ewes. The experiment used fifteen ewes of 1.5 years old, primiparous, caged individually with their lambs and conducted three treatments and five replications from a completely randomized designed. Those treatments included R1= ration with 0% sunflower oil addition, R2= ration with 4%sunflower oil addition, R3= ration with 6% sunflower oil addition. The variables consisted of dry matter intake, nutrients, ewes performances (birth weight, weaning weight, decreased of body weight), total and partial VFA, the ratio of acetate: propionate, methane production, protozoa and bacterial population. Data were analyzed statistically and descriptively. The results showed that the treatments did not influence dry matter intake and nutrients,. rumen fermentability and ewes performances. Although the treatments increased (P<0.01) fatconsumption and reduced shrinkage of body weight. It can be concluded that the adding sunflower oil as the resource of unsaturated fatty acids up to 6% of the ration was not negatively affected the fermentability of rumen, moreover can improve ewes body condition and, accelerated body weight recovery

Abstract

The aims of this study was to determine the effect of substitution of fish meal protein withsilkworm pupae (Bombyx mori) on quail performances and egg quality. The experiment was a completlyrandomized design (CDR) with four treatments and four replications and ten birds of each replication.The treatment diets were R0: diet contain 8% fish meal, without silkworm pupae (control), R1: dietcontain silkworm pupae subtituted of 25% fish meal protein, R2: diet contain silkworm pupae subtitutedof 50% fish meal, protein and R3: diet contain silkworm pupae subtituted of 75% fish meal protein. Theresults showed that substitution of 25% up to 75% significantly (P<0.05) reduced feed conversion ratio,significantly (P<0.05) increased egg production and did not affecting physical quality of quail eggs. Inconclusion, silkworm pupae can be used 25% up to 75% replacing protein fish meal.

Abstract

The objectives of present study were to formulate development strategies for dairy goat' farms that capable of supporting goat's milk agribusiness. Three medium scale dairy goat farms located in Bogor Regency which has population of more than 100 heads and has established more than 10 years were purposively selected for the study. Data were collected during February to May 2014. The design of this study was based on descriptive qualitative approach (rapid appraisal approach). Data were analized using internal factors evaluation (IFE) and external factors evaluation (EFE), strategic position and action evaluation (SPACE) matrix, and grand strategy matrix. It was revealed that dairy goat farms in Bogor Regency were located in quadrant I in SPACE matrix, which was on the aggressive strategy. Dairy goat farms have many resource advantages, despite facing various threats. The Grand Strategy Matrix analysis showed that dairy goat farms were in quadrant I. Dairy goat farms were in an excellent position to take advantage of the opportunities, overcome internal weaknesses and avoiding multiple external threats. The best strategies to be selected for dairy goat farms were market penetration and product development.

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the fermentability and nutrient digestibility of concentrate feed containing Indigofera zollingeriana using in vitro technique. Randomized complete block design was used on 3 types of concentrate feed and 4 groups (replicates) of goat's rumen liquid. The concentrate feeds were R1, R2 and R3 containing I. zollingeriana at 0 (control), 20 and 40%, respectively. Variables observed were total gas production, in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), organic matter (IVDOM), and crude protein (IVDCP), volatile fatty acid (VFA) profiles and NH3 concentration. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results showed that there was no significant effect of R3 on IVDMD, IVDOM and IVDCP as compared to R1 and R2. However, there was significant difference (P<0.05) of the parameters between R1 and R2 (P<0.05). There was no significant effect (P<0.05) of different Indigofera levels on total gas production. The partial VFA of each concentrate feeds was not significantly different, but the percentage of acetic acids of concentrates containing I. zollingeriana were higher than those of control (P<0.05). The concentration of rumen NH3 of R2 was lower than R1 and R3 (P<0.05) even though the IVCPD of R2 was higher than R1. It could be concluded that the inclusion of I. zollingeriana as concentrate feed ingredient at 20% maximum level .
