Abstract

Introduction: The condition of the periodontal tissues can usually be checked by conducting a periodontal screening or examination of the periodontal tissues. From this examination, the health status of the periodontal tissue will be obtained, which can facilitate findings related to periodontal disease. Diet has been reported to be significantly associated with periodontal health. A diet that is known to have a beneficial effect on treating inflammation in the oral cavity is the Mediterranean diet. Aim: This literature review discusses the conclusive results of periodontal status in patients or individuals with a Mediterranean diet obtained from several studies. Review: The clinical parameters measured on examination of the periodontal tissue to obtain periodontal health status were plaque and calculus scores, bleeding on probing (BOP), probing pocket depth (PPD), gingival recession (GR), and clinical attachment level or clinical attachment loss (CAL). Nutritional factors are known to act as sources of interference and modulation. A diet that lacks micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) can exacerbate the inflammatory response of the periodontal tissues. The Mediterranean diet is known to be low in saturated fat and rich in polyphenols, oleocanthal, lycopene, minerals, fiber, vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids. This diet can provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that can affect the periodontal tissue. Although not very numerous, there are studies examining periodontal tissue and periodontal disease in individuals with a Mediterranean diet. These studies require the health status of the periodontal tissues. Conclusion: Periodontal health status in individuals with a Mediterranean diet based on several studies shows quite good results, where there is a decrease in scores on bleeding on probing (BOP), pocket depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), and low plaque index.

Abstract

Periodontal Status in Patients with Eating DisordersAbstractEating disorders are characterized by abnormal eating behavior or problems with weight control. Patients with eating disorders tend to have poor oral hygiene, which can lead to plaque and calculus accumulation, thus leading to periodontal disease. It can affect the periodontal status of patients with eating disorders. The purpose of this study was to determine the literature overview regarding periodontal status in patients with eating disorders. This type of research is a scoping review; the sample comes from national and international journals related to periodontal status in patients with eating disorders. The study used the PRISMA diagram on the PubMed, Unbound MEDLINE, and Wiley databases. The number of articles obtained was 345 articles. The screening results for articles included with the inclusion criteria were five. Articles included in the exclusion criteria were 248 articles. PCC criteria in this study are population (individuals with eating disorders), Concept (description of periodontal status in people with eating disorders), and Context (periodontal status in people with eating disorders seen from clinical parameters, namely gingival bleeding, pocket depth, and attachment loss). Results showed five articles were suitable for use in this study. Three articles reported higher periodontal status scores, one study found lower periodontal status scores, and one found no significant difference. This study concludes that eating disorder patients tend to have worse periodontal status compared to healthy individuals, which may be influenced by poor oral hygiene and less efficient oral hygiene practices.

Abstract

Introduction: There are various types of adjuvant agents used in periodontal treatment, one of which is Nano Bio Fusion (NBF) Gingival Gel. Numerous studies have assessed the use of NBF gel in the treatment of periodontal disease. This paper attempts to review the literature on the efficacy of utilizing NBF gel to treat periodontal disease. Review: Nano-Bio Fusion Gingival Gel contains propolis extract in the form of nanoemulsion, vitamin C, vitamin E, sodium monofluorophosphate, aloe, and green tea extract. NBF gel is used for protection and prevention in various oral conditions, such as gingival and periodontal disease; ulcerated conditions, erosions, xerostomia, white lesions of the mucosa, denture stomatitis; mucosal protection after radiation therapy or chemotherapy; dry lips or cheilitis, lip inflammation; and post-surgical conditions such as tooth extraction, alveolitis, after implant placement, flap surgery, periodontal abscess treatment, and others. In eight studies, NBF gel was found to be effective in the treatment of periodontal disease. The parameters used were plaque index, papillary bleeding index, pocket depth, clinical attachment level, gingival index, pain perception, signs of inflammation, sulcular bleeding index, and colony forming unit. The best results were seen in the use of  NBF gel after scaling. In comparison to other adjuvants, such as tetracycline fiber and hyaluronic acid (Gengigel), the results of the parameters obtained with NBF gel are not as excellent as those obtained with the other two substances. Conclusion: NBF gel can be an effective adjuvant treatment following scaling.

Abstract

Living a healthy life as a senior is the desire of everyone. However, keeping an elderly healthy is not easy. There are many challenges to face, because the elderly are susceptible to a variety of diseases. As you age, your body undergoes many changes or aging processes, and the changes you feel cover the entire limb. Vascular problems such as hypertension and other heart problems are common. Not only that, the elderly are also at risk of suffering from bone diseases such as osteoporosis, which can be dangerous because it can result in bone fractures and inhibit the activity of the elders because they have to lie more. Osteoporosis is often associated with periodontitis, as both are diseases of the bone caused by inflammation and old age. Both osteoporosis and periodontitis have similar risk factors such as smoking, poor nutritional status, age and immune deficiency. Osteoporosis can be prevented by eating foods rich in calcium, avoiding smoking and alcoholic beverages, having regular and regular physical activity, and exposure to sufficient sunlight. Preventing osteoporosis can reduce the risk of periodontitis in the elderly. This community service (PkM) is held for the elderly living in Grand Depok City Depok Residential, West Java. It is hoped that these activities will raise awareness of the elderly in particular, and the general public of the importance of health. It is expected that osteoporosis gymnastics for the elderly can be performed on a regular basis at Posbindu Anggrek 3.

Abstract

Abstract

Dental trauma is often found in children of growing age due to poor psychomotor coordination, making them prone to falls. This can cause damage to the teeth and their supporting tissues, which can interfere with mastication, speech, aesthetics and the eruption of permanent teeth. The management of dental trauma in children is still poorly understood by parents and teachers, therefore an approach is needed regarding the first treatment of trauma to primary teeth. The choice of Community Service target at Kepodang preschool was due to a request from the school principal as the community leader. Education and training activities were carried out on Monday, March 4th 2024 for a total of 22 teachers and parents. The aim of this activity is to increase knowledge, motivate changes in attitudes and behavior in maintaining oral health, and provide learning about first care for trauma in primary teeth. An initial assessment of knowledge and attitudes regarding first care for trauma in primary teeth was carried out through administering a pre-test with multiple choice questions. The material given includes dental and oral health problems, prevention methods, as well as first treatment for trauma in primary teeth by using the power point text, discussion, and a simulation of how to brush teeth with songs. Evaluation was carried out through a post test with multiple choice questions. Evaluation of the post test results shows that there was an increase in test score. The results of this activity recommend continuing this training activity in kindergartens or other elementary schools, especially for teachers and parents

Abstract

Introduction: The absence of interdental papilla between two teeth is called Black Triangle. It will affect the patient’s aesthethic aspect. Giving hyaluronic acid’s injection can be one of the treatment to heal the condition. Literature Review: There’s few factors that influence the absence of interdental papilla such as the length from bone crest to the contact point between two teeth. The thickness and the periodontal biotype can also effect the condition. Hyaluronic acid is one of the most biocompatible material with human body. The concentration of hyaluronic acid that got affected by the molecular weight also have their own benefit. Discussion : Hyaluronic acid will bind with water, and become the receptor of mediated cell division and will increase the tubulin concentration that is responsible to increase the proliferation of fibroblast and also the synthesis of collagen. Conclusion: Hyaluronic acid can be one of the option to heal black triangle.
