Abstract

Abstract Mathematical modelling is an alternative that can be used by student in term of contextual problem solving. The aim of this studi is to analyze about student’s mathematical modelling to solve the contextual problem based on their math ability. This research is a descriptive research by using kualitative method. There are some steps in doing this research, , they are: 1) preparing research instrument, , that is math ability test, contextual problem solving test, and interview guide, 2) validation the instrument test end interview guide, 3) instrument trials, 4)research implemntation, 5) data analysis, 6) data triangulation, and 7) conclusion. Based on the research result, there are three steps of student’s ability, i.e , high, medium, and low. The ability of these there student’s show that there are differences in solving contextual problems using mathematical modelling. Keywords: Mathematical modelling, contextual problem solving Abstrak Pemodelan matematika merupakan salah satu alternatif yang dapat digunakan oleh siswa dalam pemecahan masalah kontekstual. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk menganalisis tentang pemodelan matematika siswa dalam pemecahan masalah kontekstual berdasarkan kemampuan matematika. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Tahapan dalam peneltian ini meliputi: (1) penyiapan instrumen penelitian berupa tes kemampuan matematika, tes pemecahan masalah kontekstual dan pedoman wawancara, (2) validasi instrumen tes dan pedoman wawancara, (3) uji coba instrumen, (4) pelaksanaan penelitian, (5) analisis data, (6) triangulasi data, dan (7) penarikan kesimpulan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diperoleh tiga kemampuan siswa yaitu tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Kemampuan ketiga siswa tersebut menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan dalam memecahkan masalah kontekstual menggunakan pemodelan matematika. Abstract

Entering the life of the industrial revolution 4.0, high-level abilities must be possessed by every student including the ability to think critically in mathematics. Developing and improving students' mathematical critical thinking skills requires a learning model that can provide flexibility for students to develop ideas by relating students' real lives. The learning model that relates the real life of students in the learning process is the realistic mathematics education learning model. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the realistic mathematics education learning model on the mathematical critical thinking skills of junior high school students. This type of research is a quasi-experimental research with a pretest-posttest control group design in class VIII SMP Negeri 9 Baubau as many as 2 classes consisting of 1 experimental class and 1 control class. Sampling using purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using t-test analysis. The results showed: (1) the realistic mathematics education learning model had an effect on increasing students' mathematical critical thinking skills; (2) the realistic mathematics education learning model has a better effect than conventional learning models on increasing the mathematical critical thinking skills of junior high school students.
