Abstract

Air minum merupakan salah satu komponen yang berperan dalam penentuan derajat kesehatan masyarakat. Kandungan fluor dalam air minum dapat mencegah terjadinya karies gigi. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui perbedaan konsumsi air sumur dan air sungai terhadap karies pada anak usia 6-8 tahun di Desa Kacangan, Kecamatan Todanan, Kabupaten Blora.Metode penelitian ini berjenis observasional analitik dengan rancangan cross sectional yang dilakukan pada 20 anak yang mengonsumsi air sungai dan 49 anak yang mengonsumsi air sumur. Kandungan fluor dalam air di ukur dengan menggunakan spektrofotometri. Sedangkan tingkat status karies gigi di ukur dengan menggunakan indeks DMF-T. Teknik analisa data uji beda karies gigi menggunakan uji chi-square.Berdasarkan uji chi-square yang telah dilakukan maka didapatkan nilai signifikansi 0,000 (p<0,05) dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna sehingga hipotesis dapat diterima yaitu terdapat perbedaan konsumsi air sumur dan air sungai terhadap karies gigi. Disimpulkan bahwa konsumsi air sumur dan air sungai mempunyai perbedaan terhadap terjadinya karies gigi. Anak-anak yang mengonsumsi air sungai status kariesnya lebih tinggi dibandingkan air sumur dikarenakan kandungan fluor dalam air sungai yang lebih rendah.

Abstract

Karies merupakan penyakit multifaktorial yang diawali dengan proses demineralisasi jaringan keras gigi. Bakteri Streptococcus mutans merupakan mikroorganisme yang berperan sebagai faktor utama penyebab karies gigi. Senyawa antimikroba dari keju cheddar yaitu lactoferin, lisozim dan laktoperoksidase, sedangkan senyawa  antimikroba dari yoghurt plain adalah hydrogen peroksida, reuterin dan bakteriosin.Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui efektifitas antimikroba dari keju cheddar dan  yoghurt plain terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus mutans. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen laboratoris dengan rancangan penelitian post test only group design, yang membandingkan ekstrak keju cheddar dan yoghurt plain dengan berbagai macam konsentrasi yaitu 25%, 50%, 75% dan 100%. Penelitian dilakukan dengan cara merendam kertas cakram dalam berbagai konsentrasi tersebut selama ±15 menit. Kemudian kertas cakram diletakkan pada permukaan MHA Plate yang telah diberi bakteri Streptococcus mutans standart Mac Farland III lalu inkubasi selama 24 jam dengan suhu 370C. Hasil diameter zona hambat yang  terbentuk diukur lalu diuji menggunakan uji Kruskal-Wallis dan uji Mann-Whitney. Rerata dan simpang baku dari diameter zona hambat keju cheddar 100% sebesar 6,750 ± 0,1378 mm, keju cheddar 75% sebesar 5,767 ± 0,6055 mm, sedangkan keju cheddar 50% dan 25% tidak terbentuk zona hambat. Pada yoghurt plain rerata dan simpang baku dengan konsentrasi 100% sebesar 5,667 ± 0,0816 mm, konsentrasi 75% sebesar 5,650 ± 0,0548 mm, sedangkan konsentrasi 50% dan 25% tidak terbentuk zona hambat. Berdasarkan uji Kruskal-Wallis untuk menguji hipotesa yang membandingkan rerata > 2 kelompok perlakuan, didapatkan nilai signifikan 0.00(p<0.05), sehingga ada perbedaan efektifitas antimikroba antara keju cheddar dan yoghurt plain terhadap pertumbuhan S.mutans. Uji Mann-Whitney untuk mengetahui kelompok yang memiliki mean yang berbeda secara siginifikan,   menunjukkan hanya sebagian kecil kelompok perlakuan saja yang mempunyai nilai p>0,05 atau tidak signifikan, sebagian besar kelompok perlakuan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dengan nilai p<0,005. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini, terdapat  perbedaan efektifitas antimikroba antara keju cheddar dan yoghurt plain terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri S.mutans dimana keju cheddar memiliki efektifitas antimikroba yang lebih baik terhadap S.mutans jika dibandingkan dengan yoghurt plain. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi yang digunakan pada keju cheddar dan yoghurt plain, maka semakin besar pula zona hambat yang terbentuk. Keju cheddar dengan konsentrasi 100% memiliki efektifitas antimikroba yang lebih baik terhadap bakteri Streptococcus mutans, jika dibandingkan dengan yoghurt plain.

Abstract

Anak tunarungu merupakan anak dengan keterbatasan fisik dalam mendengar dan biasanya diikuti oleh gangguan bicara, sehingga tunarungu sering disebut sebagai tunawicara. Keterbatasan ini menjadi salah satu hambatan bagi penyandang tunarungu untuk memperoleh pengetahuan tentang kesehatan gigi dan mulut yang nantinya akan menentukan sikap dan tindakan anak dalam menjaga kebersihan  rongga mulutnya. Hal tersebut terjadi akibat adanya gangguan pemrosesan informasi kognitif sehingga membuat mereka hanya dapat memaksimalkan fungsi indera penglihatannya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara pengetahuan kesehatan gigi dengan kondisi Oral Hygiene anak tunarungu usia sekolah di SLB Kota Semarang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah  observasional analitik dengan rancangan penelitian cross sectional. Subyek penelitian dipilih dengan metode consecutive sampling yaitu anak tunarungu usia sekolah sebanyak 50 anak sesuai dengan kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara memberikan pertanyaan dalam bentuk kuesioner secara langsung, selanjutnya melakukan pemeriksaan kondisi oral hygiene dengan menggunakan pengukuran Oral Hygiene Index Simplified (OHI-S) sebagai indikator penilaian kebersihan gigi dan mulut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pengetahuan anak tunarungu rata-rata cukup baik dengan kondisi oral hygiene menunjukkan kriteria moderat. Nilai signifikansi yang diperoleh berdasarkan uji Spearman`s Rank mengenai hubungan antara pengetahuan kesehatan gigi dengan kondisi oral hygieneanak tunarungu usia sekolah adalah 0,001 (p<0,05) dengan hasil hubungan sebesar 0,465. Sehingga dapat diinterpretasikan bahwa hubungan pengetahuan kesehatan gigi dengan kondisi oral hygiene anak tunarungu usia sekolah menunjukkan arah hubungan positif, yaitu semakin baik pengetahuan yang dimiliki semakin baik pula kondisi oral hygiene anak. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapathubungan antara pengetahuan kesehatan gigi dengan kondisi oral hygiene anak tunarungu usia sekolah.

Abstract

Background: Acrylic resin is a dental material that is often used because it is easy to apply and has good aesthetics. One type of acrylic resin used for denture base materials in dentistry is Heat Cured Acrylic Resin (HCAR). HCAR as base for dentures also has disadvantages including low tensile strength. Therefore, fiber can be added to heat cured acrylic resin as a reinforcing material (FRAR). This study aims to determine the effect of the addition of non-dental glass fiber on the tensile strength of HCAR.Method: This is a true experimental research using posttest only control group design. Divided into two groups, the first one is HCAR without the addition of non-dental glass fiber, the second group is HCAR with the addition of non-dental glass fiber. The data are tested using the Independent T-Test parametric test.Result: The average tensile strength of the HCAR without Non Dental Glass Fiber was 46.5169 MPa, while the average tensile strength of HCAR with the addition of Non Dental Glass Fiber was 60.3269 MPa. The independent test results show p value of = 0.000Conclusion: It was found that heat cured acrylic resin with the addition of non-dental glass fiber has a higher tensile strength than heat cured acrylic resin without the addition of non-dental glass fiber which could be used as an alternative choice in applications in dentistry.

Abstract

Background: Traumatic ulcer is an oral mucosa ulcerative lesion caused by trauma. One of the causes is chemicals. Clinical features of traumatic ulcer including yellowish white spots with reddish halo and painful. Treatment for this ulcer are suppressing inflammation and pain thus will increase healing process. Macrophage will be decreased at the end of the inflammatory phase. Red ginger extracts (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) contains some compounds that can heal ulcers. Purpose: The objective of this research was to find out the effect of red ginger extract on the macrophage numbers in traumatic oral mucosal ulceration due to chemical in Rattus norvegicus. Method: This study was experimental which post test only control group design. There were five groups: negative control group without intervention, positive control group treat aloclair, and red ginger extract in 2%, 4%, 8% consentration group. The experimental animals were used 25 Rattus norvegicus. They were injured on oral mucosa using H2O2 30% two times a day. Their oral mucosa were made as hystologycal slide, and macrophage counts were observed, then analyzed by Anova test and LSD test. Result: The result indicates some significant effect of red ginger extract on the macrophage numbers in traumatic oral mucosal ulceration from Anova test 0,001 (<0,05). There are significant differences between 2% consentration of red ginger extract and positive control group.There are no significant difference beetween 4%, 8% consentration of red ginger extract and positive control group. Conclusion: It can be concluded that red ginger extract have influence on the number of macrophages in chamical traumatic oral mucosal ulceration in Rattus norvegicus.

Abstract

Background: Inside the oral cavity, restoration always in contact with wet condition, including carbonated drink with low pH level and erosive potential. Sometimes, materials are stored for prolonged time exceeding their expiration date. This research aimed to determine the effect of expiration date (ED) of GIC type II toward its surface deterioration (surface hardness and roughness) when immersed in carbonated drink.Method: This was an experimental laboratory using GIC type II with ED of 2014,2016 and 2021. Ten cylindrical specimens per group were made (d=10mm, h=2mm). Surface hardness and roughness measurements were done prior andafter specimens were immersed for seven days in carbonated drink. Carbonateddrinks were changed daily to maintain its pH level.Result: There were reduction in surface roughness and increased in surfaceroughness after immersed for seven days. The greatest deterioration occurred ingroup expired in 2014. Based on the Kruskal Wallis test result, there was a signifcant difference in surface hardness alteration (p=0.000) and surface roughness alteration (p=0.000) based on its ED.Conclusion: ED has great impact on surface characteristics (hardness androughness). Using expired GIC type II deal with great risk of surface deterioration when in contact with low pH level beverages

Abstract

Background: Binahong Leaf (Anredera Cordifolia) is known as a medicinal plant. Binahong gel contains an assortment of phytochemicals. Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the Binahong gel (Anredera cordifolia) 5% application into the socket after tooth extraction of guinea pig (Cavia cobaya), and then its fibroblast cells histologically observed at days 4 and 7. Method: This research method was a quasi-experimental. The sample used were 16 guinea pigs (Cavia cobaya) males, aged 3-5 months and divided into 4 groups. Group 1 consisted of four guinea pigs were given a gel Binahong until day 4, 1 control group consisted of four guinea pigs were not given gel Binahong until day 4, 2  treatment groups were given gel Binahong until day 7 and 2 control groups were not given gel Binahong until day 7, then the guenia pigs decapitated to be made histological preparats, the aim to see and count the number of fibroblast cells. Kemudian dimasukan dalam data lalu dianalisis. The data analyzed by Kruskal Wallis test with probability p <0.05, and Mann Whitney to determine differences in effectiveness between variables. Result: Based on the Kruskal-Wallis test, there is a significant difference between the number of fibroblasts which had giving Binahong gel after tooth extraction of guinea pigs (p <0.05). From the Mann Whitney test concluded the treatment group 1 and control group 1 showed not significant (p> 0.05). In the second treatment group and control group 2 can be concluded there is a significant difference (p <0.05). Conclusion: From the results of this study application gel Binahong 5% for 4 days after tooth extraction does not effectively influence the number of fibroblasts, for 7 days proved effective influence fibroblast cell count after tooth extraction of guinea pig (Cavia cobaya).

Abstract

Background: Aplication of composites resin in relatively small amount as a restorative material often causing the material reaches its expiry date before all of the material can be used. Composites resin that have passed the expiry date would affect charateristic of the material. The aim of this study was to investigate surface hardness difference of composite resins based on material expiration date.Methods: This research was an experimental laboratory using post test only with control group design. Samples for this research were 27 divided into 3 groups based on its expiration date (2016, 2018 and 2019). The surface hardness was measured by Shore D Hardness. The result of this research were tested with One Way Anova and Post Hoc test LSD.Result: The lowest surface hardness result was measured on group 1 (81.02SHD) and the highest was group 3 (94.72 SHD). The result of One Way Anova test showed that there was signifcant differences in all groups (p<0.05). Post Hoc LSD test showed difference signifcantly between each groups.Conclusion: It can be concluded that there was signifcant difference of composite resins surface hardness based on material’s expiration date

Abstract

Background: Glass ionomer cement (GICs) has become a common restorative material in dental practice. Therefore, there are so many GIC's brands can be found in the market with tremendous price disparities GIC brands can be found in the market with huge price disparity; Price of one brand can be up to tenfold than the others. For the cost-efficiency reason, many clinicians prefer the more economical. Therefore, questions arise from the clinician, does it influence the clinical performance. Method: Six cylindrical specimens (10mm x 2mm) from four GIC brands (Fuji IX, FXUltra, GlassyCem and Sangchi) were made based on the respective factory instructions and stored for 24 hours until the final setting reached. Micro Vickers hardness tester (Shimadzu) and Surface roughness tester were used as surface characterizations measurement. Collected data were analyzed statistically. Results: Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney analysis showed that Fuji IX and FXUltra significantly (p<0.05) higher surface hardness (68.47 and 63.29 VHN respectively) compared to GlassyCem and Sangchi (38.53 and 36.70 VHN). While for surface roughness measurement, Fuji IX has the highest surface roughness, 7.22 µm (p<0.05). GIC’s clinical performance is affected by composition and powder-liquid ratio. Strontium in Fuji IX could increase surface hardness. The high powder-liquid ratio in Fuji IX and FXUltra improve its clinical performance compared to the other group. Conclusion: The more expensive GIC (Fuji IX and FX ultra) had better surface hardness with a slight difference in surface roughness. Therefore, clinicians should choose GIC based on cost-efficiency without ignoring clinical performance.

Abstract

Background: Fiber reinforced composite is a combination of composite resin and fiber. Fiber in FRC serves as a reinforcement to be resistant to fractures. One of the fibers used in FRC is dental glass fiber because it can increase mechanical strength. Dental glass fiber is very limited and expensive while glass fiber which available in the market is non dental glass. This material has mechanical properties almost same as dental e-glass fiber used in dentistry, so it can be used as an alternative material FRC. The aim of this study was to identify the effect of flexural strength of non dental glass fiber to prepolymerized fiber reinforced composites.Method: This study used true experimental design with 16 samples. The samples were divided into two groups according to prepolymerized composite resin groups without fiber and prepolymerized composite resins with the addition of non dental glass fiber. Data analysis in this study used the normality test with the Sapiro-Wilk test, levene test and independent t-test. Result: The results were statistically analyzed, the average flexural strength of prepolymerized composite resin without fiber is 36.60 MPa and prepolymerized composite resin with the addition of non dental glass fiber which is 54.26 MPa. Based on the normality test and the levene test values (p> 0.05) and independent t-test values (p <0.05) were obtained.Conclusion: The conclusion obtained that there is an effect of the addition of non dental glass fiber to the flexural strength of prepolymerized fiber reinforced composite.
