Abstract

This paper is entitled “The Analysis of Ambiguous Structures Through TheStructural Ambiguity Concept”. The purpose of the paper is to acquire a cleardescription of structural ambiguity. Structural ambiguity is a kind of ambiguitieswhich occurs when a phrase, clause or sentence can be given two or more differentinterpretations as a result of the arrangement of words (the structure). Thestructural ambiguity can arise even though there is no word(s) are ambiguous in thestructure. The result of the paper shows that the structural ambiguity can occur insome structures, namely: Noun Phrase, Prepositional Phrase, Relative Clause, NounClause, and also the combination of those with conjunction (coordinating).

Abstract

This research entitled “Exclusion Passivation Strategy of Representation of Social Actor on Aung San Suu Kyi Criticism in The Case of Rohingya Crisis on Online Media Headlines (A CDA Approach)” Exclusion itself is a strategy to disappear the social actors from the text. This strategy is a part of Critical Discourse Analysis tool from Theo Van Leeuwen (2008:29). According to Theo van Leeuwen there are two kinds of exclusion, suppression and backrounding. Suppression is the exclusion that leaves no traces in the representation, excluding both the social actors and their activities, whereas backgrounding is the exclusion that leaves traces in the representation. However, in this article, the type of exclusion used is suppression, especially passivation strategy; the strategy is used as a limitation in the research for this article. There are 3 data collected when two data are pros with Suu Kyi criticism and one data sounded neutral with Suu Kyi criticism.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menelisik sikap mahasiswa Program Studi Sastra Inggris Universitas Komputer Indonesia terhadap Program Pembelajaran Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). Fokus penelitian diberikan pada kompetensi spesifik dari dampak implementasi Program Pembelajaran MBKM. Membongkar isu terkait dampak program ini, penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, survei, dan wawancara mendalam diterapkan pada tahap pengumpulan data, sedangkan teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah deskriptif analitik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi mahasiswa meningkat secara bertahap setelah mengikuti program ini. Keterampilan dan kecakapan hidup dasar seperti sikap adaptif, kematangan emosional, dan keterampilan berkomunikasi merupakan keterampilan soft skills yang dikembangkan. Sementara itu, keterampilan hard skills ditandai peningkatan keterampilan performa berbahasa, keterampilan digital, dan kemampuan rekayasa digital. Hasil penelitian dapat dimanfaatkan institusi pendidikan, yakni sebagai bahan pertimbangan untuk membuat dan menentukan strategi pengembangan dan peningkatan kompetensi sehingga mampu menghasilkan lulusan kompetitif.

Abstract

Having children with hearing impairment is a great concern for parents in teaching their children to communicate. However, parents tend to have trouble choosing the right approach in teaching children with hearing impairment to not feel lazy and bored quickly in learning. This research aims to create an interactive sign language learning application based on the BISINDO sign language system as an alternative learning media for children with hearing impairment to increase their learning motivation. The application was made to support children with hearing impairment in understanding sign language, starting from recognizing letters, numbers, basic and greeting words; the application was also made as an interactive software equipped with various supporting features such as videos, animations, to trivia quizzes. This research used descriptive methods with observation and interviews, as well as prototype methods in system development. This study indicates that the application can increase learning motivation for children with hearing impairment and provide supporting instruments for parents in teaching children to communicate. In conclusion, the application is beneficial and has a solution for parents to teach sign language to their children who have a hearing impairment and difficulty digesting learning and lack motivation

Abstract

KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) and Polri (Indonesian National Police) aretwo agencies that have the authority to handle the corruption perpetrators in Indonesia.The second feud between the two attracts Indonesian people's attention once again.Such widely reported feud caught my interest in analyzing the headlines published onThe Jakarta Post of August to October 2012's editions. The aim of this writing is todiscover the use of nominalization strategies of exclusion in representing the socialactors on The Jakarta Post headlines. The Critical Discourse Analysis method ofTheo van Leeuwen's is used to show how parties and actors (individual or group) arepresented on the news, especially the process of nominalization strategies of exclusion.The results show that the process occurred mostly on Polri. Such exclusion was intendedto focus readers' attention on the other actor (victim), namely KPK.

Abstract

During this pandemic situation, food companies are using their Instagram account not only to promote their products and services to stay in business but also to tell the consumer of their products to keep minimalize physical contact to help in this horrible situation. In this study, there were 3 (three) Instagram post from 3 (three) different companies which are in food business that were analyse through multimodal analysis. The purpose of this study was to found out what visual and verbal were being used in those companies Instagram post during this pandemic period and what message they brought through their Instagram post. This study was implemented descriptive qualitative method and interactive metafunction by Kress and van Leeuwen and interpersonal metafunction by Halliday. The writer concluded that in this study those companies not only trying to sell and advertise their products and services but also to suggest their consumer to minimalize physical contact during this pandemic situation.

Abstract

Abstract This research describes the phenomenon of formal rural education institutions in Japan which is shown in Atto's anime series Non Non Biyori through the ideological theory approach proposed by Althusser. The purpose of this study is to describe the formal village education institutions in Japan in supporting the compulsory twelve year school program and implementing moral education design by the central government. The method used is a quantitative method to explain the existing phenomena by collecting data and departing from Althusser's Ideology State Apparatus theory. The results of this study are to suggest that formal education institutions in rural areas in Japan are able to apply and implement moral education methods from the central government in learning and compulsory schooling so that they become moral students and are able to be educated and experience school to high school and above. Keywords : Ideology state apparatus, Japan, education, anime Abstrak Penelitian ini memaparkan fenomena instansi pendidikan formal daerah desa di Jepang yang diperlihatkan dalam anime seri Non Non Biyori karya Atto melalui pendekatan teori ideologi yang dicanangkan oleh Althusser. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan instansi pendidikan formal desa di Jepang dalam mendukung program wajib sekolah dua belas tahun serta melaksanakan pendidikan moral yang direncanakan oleh pemerintah pusat. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif untuk menjelaskan fenomena yang ada dengan pengumpulan data serta berangkat dari teori Ideology State Apparatus dari Althusser. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah mengemukakan instansi pendidikan formal daerah desa di Jepang yang mampu menerapkan dan melaksanakan metode pendidikan moral dari pemerintah pusat dalam pembelajaran serta wajib sekolah 12 tahun sehingga menjadi pelajar bermoral serta mampu teredukasi dan mencicipi bangku sekolah sampai sekolah menengah keatas. Abstract

This study aims to observe the impact of the implementation of MBKM learning program at the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Komputer Indonesia (Unikom); In addition, this study also observes the understanding and interest of the students in the Faculty towards the program. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, by taking data sources from the results of a questionnaire survey on the implementation of the MBKM program filled out by students of the Faculty; the questionnaire was facilitated by the Ministry of Education and Culture as the creator of the MBKM program. The results of this study indicate that students have positive perceptions regarding the implementation of MBKM Program learning activities. This is indicated by a good understanding of the program; also, it is indicated with a large enough interest to join the program, and the impact that is quite promising for the implementation of this program in the future for students of the Faculty. This research is expected to have a positive impact on improving the learning activities of tMBKM Program in the future, especially for its management at UNIKOM, especially at the Faculty of Humanities. Abstract

The short film “Loop” tells the story of two children named Marcus and Renee who have differences in interacting with other people. Marcus is a boy who talks a lot. In Marcus's utterance, there is interpersonal meaning that can have an interaction impact that connects him with Renee who is a person with autism. This study explains how interpersonal meaning and categories of mood as well as speech functions are used in the utterance of Marcus in the short film "Loop". In this research, the method used is descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques in this study were carried out by observation and documentation to show the interpersonal meaning and categories of mood as well as speech functions used in the utterance of Marcus' character. The results of this study indicate that there are three categories of mood and speech functions found in Marcus's utterance which he uses to interact with Renee. By analyzing interpersonal meaning in utterance, it can help to recognize that everyone has different ways of interacting with other people.

Abstract

Humans who are born in this era as social beings have a way of connecting with others, through continuous communication. To meet these needs, humans begin the development of technology and innovation which is closely related to information technology, especially on social media. Social media such as Instagram appears in the community the same as others, namely there are positive and negative sides behind it. The positive element is how easy it is to share information and make information available to the public, and the negative element is how the information is made available through violations caused by mediated voyeurism. The theories used in this study are voyeurism, surveillance, and psychoanalysis. The method used in this study is indirect qualitative observation to determine the existence of objects, situations, contexts, and meanings in an effort to collect research data. Voyeurism is generally known as deviant sexual behavior now covers a wide area. In today's digital world, the act of mediated voyeurism is getting wider, especially with a psychoanalysis approach. By performing mediated voyeurism behavior, users can get information about the daily privacy activities of other users, such as the Lambe Turah account on Instagram. Based on this incident, this study uses Instagram as an example of social media activity, because Instagram is one of the social media.
