Abstract

Genetic variation is important in plant breeding. However, information on the genetic variability of Arabica coffee especially in coffee field of North Sumatra was not yet available.  Magnitude of morphological variation, genotypic variation, phenotypic variation, heritability, genetic advance, genetic correlation, and phenotypic correlation of plant vigors and yield components of 28 genotypes were evaluated using nested design.  This research showed morphological and genetic variations of the genotypes in the field. Based on the research locations as operational taxonomic unit, the genotypes were separated into three clusters. Most of the parameters had low to moderate genotypic variation, while phenotypic variation was moderate to high. Heritability and genetic advance were low, moderate, and high. Several plant vigors and yield components had a positive significant genetic and phenotypic correlation one another, and several had negative ones. Coffee berry borer infestation (CBBI) had a highly significant negative genetic correlation with leaf width (rG = -0.309**), leaf weight (rG = -0.671**), fruit diameter (rG = -0.320**), and bean length (rG = -0.175**). CBBI showed a significant positive genetic correlation with mesocarp pH (rG = 0.134*).  To reduce CBBI, selection for higher leaf weight is better. Selection on lower pH of mesocarp could be considered to decrease CBBI.Keywords: cluster analysis, genetic correlation, genetic heritability, variability

Abstract

Sebagai daerah tropis yang melimpah dengan cahaya, namun kenyataan bahwa tidak semua tanaman dapat menerima intensitas cahaya penuh, untuk mendapatkan intensitas cahaya yang optimal bagi pertumbuhan bibit tanaman kopi dilakukanlah penelitian dengan bahan benih kopi Arabika dan naungan menggunakan paranet yang dapat dilalui cahaya. Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Petak Terbagi dengan tiga taraf intensitas cahaya 100%; 75%; 50% dan empat taraf pupuk: 0 kg/ha setara dengan 0 g/ 5 kg tanah; 200 kg/ha setara dengan 0,5 g/ 5 kg tanah; 300 kg/ha setara dengan 0,75 g/ 5 kg tanah, dan 400 kg/ha setara dengan 1 g/ 5 kg tanah. Hasil penelitian membuktikan, intensitas cahaya 75% dengan sangat nyata berpengaruh terbaik terhadap bobot basah dan bobot kering tajuk demikian juga halnya dengan akar, sedangkan dosis pupuk dan intraksi antara perlakuan berpengaruh tidak nyata terhadap parameter yang diamati.

Abstract

Tanah ultisol juga memiliki reaksi pH yang sangat rendah berkisar antara 3-5 dan kandungan Al yang tinggi. Dolomit efisien digunakan untuk meperbaiki tanah ultisol sehingga sesuai penggunaannya untuk tiap komoditi pertanian. Fosfor sangat berperan dalam mendapatkan hasil optimal produksi biji kedelai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dosis optimal dolomit dan pupuk fosfor dalam meningkatkan produksi biji kedelai pada ultisol di Simalingkar. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Desa Simalingkar B, pada ketinggian tempat sekitar ± 33 mdpl dari April sampai Juli 2019. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Faktorial tiga ulangan dengan perlakuan Dolomit 3 taraf dan Pupuk Fosfor 4 taraf. Parameter yang diamati adalah: produksi biji kedelai per hektar, dan bobot 100 butir biji kering jemur. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pemberian dolomit dengan dosis 18.075 ton/ha mampu meningkatkan produksi biji kedelai pada ultisol di Simalingkar, sedangkan pemberian dosis pupuk fosfor belum mampu meningkatkan produksi biji kedelai.

Abstract

Soyghurt is a fermented soy milk product using Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus bacteria. Efforts to enrich drinks high in antioxidants are carried out by combining food ingredients that can function as antioxidants such as soybeans and jicama. The combination of these two food ingredients and the assistance of the fermentation process by S. thermophilus and L. bulgaricans was expected to increase antioxidant activity in soyghurt production.This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 2 factors, namely: the first factor was the ratio of soybean juice and yam juice (S) which consisted of 4 treatment levels, namely: S0 = 100: 0, S1 = 75: 25, S2 = 50: 50, S3 = 25: 75, S4 0: 100. Meanwhile for the second factor was the duration of fermentation (F) which consisted of 3 levels of treatment, namely: F0 = 6 hours, F1 = 8 hours, F2 = 10 hours. The parameters observed were total solids, total acid, organoleptic value, antioxidant activity, and total lactic acid bacteria in jicama soyghurt on the best samples.The results showed that both treatment factors had a very significant effect (P <0.01) on total solids, total acid, and organoleptic tests of soyghurt. The study showed that the comparison of soybean juice and jicama juice and fermentation duration resulted a high protein content value of 9.18% and was in accordance with the SNI yoghurt protein content, namely minimum of 3.5%. Antioxidant activity of yam bean soyghurt obtained an IC 50 value of 18.110 mg / L and it was a very strong antioxidant. Total lactic acid bacteria on yam soyghurt was 108 CFU / ml and it was high.Based on this research results, it was suggested that soyghurt processing may use a combination with other types of fruits and use natural food coloring to give different flavors and increase the nutritional values of soyghurt.

Abstract

Hard candy is a solid and hard-textured snack, the main ingredients in the manufacture of hard candy are sucrose, water, glucose syrup, while the additives are flavor, coloring and acidifying. The ratio of the amount of sucrose and glucose syrup used in the manufacture of hard candy will determine the texture that is formed. In general, hard candy is only known as a source of calories and does not contain antioxidants. One type of plant that is rarely used is the fruit of Senduduk Bulu (Clidemia hirta L.), this fruit contains high levels of antioxidants that can ward off free radicals in the body. The aims of this research are to investigate the effect of sucrose and glucose syrup ratio and the addition of different concentrations of senduduk bulu extract on physicochemical and organoleptic properties of hard candy. This study used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design consisting of 2 factors, namely the ratio of sucrose and glucose syrup consisting of 3 levels (70%: 30%, 75%: 25% and 80%: 20%) and the concentration of senduduk bulu extract with 4 levels. (0%, 3%, 6%, 9%). The parameters observed were water content, reducing sugar, antioxidant activity, hedonic organoleptics (color, taste, and texture). The results concluded that the ratio of sucrose and glucose syrup had a significant effect on reducing sugars concentration (P< 0.05), and was very significant (P <0.01) on organoleptic (color, taste) but did not affect water content, and organoeptic texture of hard candy . The addition of senduduk bulu extract had a very significant effect (P <0.001) on water content, reducing sugar concentration, and organoleptics (color, taste, texture) on hard candy senduduk bulu. The hard candy formula most preferred by panelists based on the hedonic test was A1B4 treatment (the composition of the ratio of sucrose and glucose syrup 70%: 30% with 9% senduduk bulu extract). The average value of the panelists' preference level for the parameters of color 3.66, taste 3.54, texture 2.82 and the average value of the test results 1.98% water content, 6.26% reduction sugar and has a very strong antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 36.84 ppm. All analysis tests met the quality requirements of SNI3547.1: 2008 hard candy.

Abstract

The objectives of this study was to observe the effect of dolomite and NPK fertilizer application on growth, yield and leaf phosphorus levels of soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merril) due to the application of dolomite and NPK fertilizers. This research was conducted from June 2019 to December 2019, at the Experimental Station of Agriculture Faculty of University of HKBP Nommensen Medan in Simalingkar B Village, Medan Tuntungan District at an altitude of ±33m above sea level. Soil type Ultisol with Tex-sand 43.75%, Tex-dust 42.18%, Tex-clay 14.07; pH 4.63; cation exchange capacity (CEC) 14.64%, Ptotal 0.10%, N kjehldahl 1.9% K-exch 0.20%, Ca-exch 1.32%, Mg-exch 0.92%. This research was arranged in a factorial randomized block design (RAK) with 2 treatment factors, namely, the first factor was dolomite (D) which consisted of 3 levels, namely: D0 = 0 g/polybag, D1 = 11.2 g/polybag, D2 = 22.4 g/polybag. The second factor was NPK fertilizer (N), which consisted of 4 levels, namely: N0 = 0 g/polybag, N1 = 1.5g/polybag, N2 = 3 g/polybag and N3 = 4.5g/polybag. Parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, number of pods, number of filled pods, weight of filled pods, dry seed production per plant, dry weight of 100 seeds and leaf phosphorus levels. The results showed that dolomite application had a very significant effect on the number of pods, number of filled pods, weight of filled pods, dry seed production per plant, dry weight of 100 seeds, but had no significant effect on plant height, number of leaves and leaf phosphorus levels. The application of NPK fertilizer had a very significant effect on the number of pods, number of filled pods, dry seed production per plant, dry weight of 100 seeds but had no significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, weight of filled pods and leaf phosphorus content. The interaction of dolomite and NPK fertilizer had no significant effect on all observed parameters.

Abstract

Penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh abu ketel dan kotoran sapi terhadap hasil tanaman kacang tanah. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas HKBP Nommensen Medan pada bulan Februari-Juni 2022.  Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan acak kelompok faktorial yang terdiri dari empat taraf abu boiler, yaitu: A0 = 0 t/ha, A1 = 2,5 t/ha, A2 = 5 t/ha, dan A3 = 7,5 t/ha dan kotoran sapi = 0 t/ha, S1 = 10 t/ha, S2 = 20 t/ha dan S3 = 30 t/ha ). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian abu boiler setara 2,5 t/ha nyata meningkatkan pertumbuhan tinggi tanaman dan jumlah cabang tanaman kacang tanah. Tidak ada interaksi antara kedua perlakuan untuk semua parameter yang diamati. Berdasarkan data tersebut, ada kecenderungan peningkatan hasil kacang tanah pada kombinasi abu boiler setara 5 t/ha dengan kotoran sapi 30 t/ha.

Abstract

AbstractKondisi tanah ultisol yang kurang subur memerlukan penanganan yang kompleks agar dapat berfungsi dengan baik sebagai lahan pertanian. Upaya tersebut diharapkan mampu memberi perbaikan kesuburan tanah secara menyeluruh.  Untuk tujuan ini dilalukan suatu penelitian yang menggunakan pupuk kandang dan pupuk hayati mikoriza yang diharapakan dapat memperbaiki sifat-sifat tanah tersebut hingga diperoleh tingkat pengaruh aplikasi bahan tersebut pada tingkat yang optimal. Penelitian dilakukan dengan Rancangan Acak Kelompok, dengan dua factor.  Faktor pupuk kandang 3 taraf dan factor mikoriza 4 taraf. Setiap pengaruh parameter yang signifikan akan dilanjutkan dengan uji jarak berganda Duncan. Untuk pengamatan dilakukan pengukuran tanah tersedia fosfor, kandungan fosfor tongkol jagung, dan produksi jagung manis. Produksi jagung manis tertinggi 16,06 t/ha terjadi dengan kombinasi perlakuan pada aplikasi atau pemberian pupuk kandang setara dengan 5 t/ha dan mikoriza 3 g/lubang tanam, produksi ini lebih tinggi 3,83 t/ha setara dengan 31,31 % dibandingkan dengan kontrol. Pupuk kandang hanya meningkatkan kandungan fosfor secara nyata pada tongkol jagung. Mikoriza hanya meningkatkan ketersediaan fosfor tanah secara signifikan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti pengaruh dari aplikasi biochar sekam padi dan pupuk kandang sapi yang diduga aplikasinya secara perlakuan tunggal mauppun kombinasinya akan memberi pengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman baby corn (Zea mays saccaratha L.) dimana perlakuan yang dilakukan adalah untuk mendapatkan data mengenai untuk mengetahui pengaruh aplikasi biochar sekam padi dan pupuk kandang sapi terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman baby corn (Zea mays saccaratha L.) pada tanah Ultisol Simalingkar. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas HKBP Nommensen Medan di Simalingkar, Kecamatan Medan Tuntungan.  Lahan penelitian terletak pada ketinggian  sekitar  ±33 meter diatas permukaan air laut (mdpl) dengan keasaman  (pH) tanah 5,5-6,5 dan jenis tanah Ultisol, tekstur tanah pasir berlempung (Lumbanraja dkk., 2023).  Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari 2023 sampai Maret 2023.  Bahan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah benih Jagung manis varietas Secada F1, Pupuk Kandang Sapi, Biochar sekam padi , Fungisida Dithane M-45, Insektisida Decis 25 EC, Ridomil Gold MZ 4, Fungisida Acrobat dan air.Pada hasil uji penelitian diperoleh data pengamatan parameter pertumbuhan tanaman, memperlihatkan bahwa perlakuan biochar sekam padi berpengaruh dengan  nyata pada pengamatan tinggi tanaman pada umur 2 MST dan 3 MST saja, sedangkan untuk minggu selanjutnya pengaruh perlakuan terhadap parameter ini tidak berbeda nyata

Abstract

Pembuatan mi kering komposit bertujuan untuk meningkatkan nilai gizi mi terutama komponen pangan fungsional dengan melakukan subtitusi sebagian tepung terigu dengan tepung rumput laut dan tepung labu kuning.Penelitian dilakukan dengan tiga tahap. Tahap ke 1 pembuatan tepung rumput laut dan tepung labu kuning.Tahap ke 2 pembuatan mi kering komposit, dan tahap ke 3 analisis kimia, dan uji fisik mi kering.Metode percobaan menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan perlakuan perbandingan (%)  tepung rumput laut dan tepung labu kuning yang terdiri  atas 4 taraf (t=4): P0= 30:0; P1= 20:10: P2= 10:20; dan P3=0:30. Dilakukan dengan 3 ulangan.Tepung rumput laut dan tepung labu kuning mengandung komponen pangan fungsional (iodium, serat, dan karoten) masing-masing 27,05 ppm, 5,65%, dan 12,32 ppm pada tepung rumput laut dan 0,10 ppm, 9,69%, dan 397,20 ppm pada tepung labu kuning. Iodium dan karotenoid pada tepung terigu tidak terdeteksi, sedangkan serat hanya 0,29%. Komposisi kimia mi kering adalah:  air 6,75-7,99%; protein 7,32-11,24%; iodium 0,03-7,39 ppm; serat 1,01-2,11%; dan karoten 1,69-80,25 ppm. Waktu optimum pemasakan rata-rata 3,50 menit dan KPAP antara 14,42-20,72. Mi yang memenuhi SNI 01-2974-1996 adalah mi kering R10L20 dan R0L30. Mi R10L20 dapat dijadikan makanan fungsional karena sangat potensial sebagai sumber karoten dan sumber iodium.Making Composite Dry Noodles Of Seaweed (E.Cottonii)  Pumpkin Flour (Cucurbita moschata)  as  Functional Food Composite dry noodle-making aims to improve the nutritional value of noodles, particularly functional food components by performing partial substitution of wheat flour with seaweed and wheat flour pumpkin. Research carried out by three stages. The first stage is to manufacture seaweed flour and flour pumpkin. The second stage is to make dry noodle by using seaweed flour and flour pumpkin as the wheat substituer and third stage is to analyze the component of dry noodle. Methods of experimental research with completely randomized design with treatment ratio (%) for seaweed flour and flour pumpkin which consisting of 4 levels (t = 4).  R30L0 = 30: 0; R20L10 = 20:10: R10L20 = 10:20; and R0L30 = 0: 30. It is done with three time repetitions.Flour seaweed and flour pumpkin contain functional food components (iodine, fiber, and carotenoids) respectively 27.05 ppm, 5.65%, and 12.32 ppm in flour seaweed and 0.10 ppm, 9.69%, and 397.20 ppm in flour pumpkin. Iodine and carotenoid of rice flour undetected, and the fiber was only 0.29%.The chemical compositions of dry noodles are:,6.75-7.99% moisture content; protein content of 7,32-11,24%; 0.03 -7.39 ppm iodine content; 1.01-2.11% crude fiber; and 1.69-80.25 ppm carotene.The optimum cooking time is average of 3.50 minutes and KPAP between 14.42-20.72%. Noodles that meet SNI 01-2974-1996 are R10L20 and R0L30 dry noodles. The noodles  R10L20 is very potential as a source of carotene and iodine.
