Abstract

The purpose of the research was to describe the differences betweenRealisticMathematicsEducation and Mechanisticlearning approachin mathematics achievementviewed from students’ activity. The research was a quasi experimental. The population of the research was all the seventh grade students of junior high schoolin Pekalongan regency. The instruments used to collect the data were achievment on quadrilateral topic and questionnare of the students activity in learning mathematics. To analyze the data, the researcher used anova (analysis of variances) with unbalanced cells. It was concluded that Realistic MathematicsEducation gave a betterresult than Mechanistic learning approachon quadrilateraltopic and the students mathematics achievement for the students that high activity was better than those who had a moderate and low activity, whereas the studentsmathematicsachievement that had a moderate activity was equivalence to the students who had a low activity. Keywords: Realistic Mathematics Education, quadrilateral, learning activity

Abstract

The purposes of the research were to increase the students’ activities of learning mathematic and to improve students’ learning achievements by using TPS method. The research was a collaborative achievement research between the mathematic teacher, headmaster and the writer. The eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Wiradesa were the subject of the research. This research was a class action research. The results showed that TPS method could improve the students’ activities and achievements significantly. The students’ activities rose 34,15% to 75,61%  and students’ achievements rose from 36,59 % to 80,49%. Kata Kunci: activity, TPS, achievement

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to describe students' problem-solving abilities in completing linear programs through the Newman stages. This article uses qualitative. Data collection was obtained from the method of setting, testing, and interviewing. There are 36 students in class IX PS 2 as the subject of this article. The subject's abilities are categorized as high, medium, and low. Descriptive analysis was obtained from 9 students who represented each level. Test the validity of the data by triangulation. The results of the analysis obtained an average problem-solving ability using the Newman stage, namely the ability to read problems 85.6% classified well, the ability to solve problems 80% classified well, the ability to transform 82.59% classified well, the ability to process 73.3% classified good, the ability to solve answers 67.7% classified sufficiently. Of the 8 levels of ability obtained by 8 high-skilled students require new procedures well in solving problems, 24 capable students are having difficulty in the process of problem transformation, and 4 low-ability students are unable to handle new procedures. Keywords: problem-solving ability, Newman's procedure

Abstract

The efforts of teachers to improve students 'ability to understand concepts are to package mathematics learning into learning that can foster students' motivation and passion for learning. The selection of the right learning model by the teacher can make learning effective and fun. One alternative learning model that makes students learn mathematics is fun is the MASTER lesson. This study aims to determine whether students' conceptual comprehension abilities with MASTER learning models are better than PBL learning models. This research is a quantitative research with a form of experimental design that is quasi experimental design .The population in this study were all students of class XI IPS SMA N 1 Doro in the academic year 2017/2018. The data collection methods used in this study are of two kinds, namely interviews and tests. The method of data analysis in this study used the t test. Before the t test, the prerequisite test is first, namely normality and homogeneity test. Based on the calculation of the t test, the results obtained that t value of tcount = 2.133 and t0.025; 39 = 2.023, so that tcount> t0.025; 39 then Ho is rejected. This means that the MASTER learning model produces a better understanding ability of concepts than the PBL learning model. Keywords: MASTER, PBL, Concept understanding ability

Abstract
