Abstract

Background: Narcissism is a condition in which people have a constant demand to be complimented and prioritized. Self-esteem is a subjective evaluation of one's worth. Several studies have linked narcissism and low self-esteem as a risk factor of social media addiction, a disorder where individuals displayed an unhealthy compulsion to access social media until it disrupts other activities. This study aimed to discover the relationship between narcissism, self-esteem, and social media addiction in preclinical medical students. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional observational analytical study on 211 preclinical medical students at the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. Instruments used in this study were Narcissistic Personality Inventory-16 (NPI-16), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS). Data were analyzed statistically using Chi-square in STATA analytic program. Results: Of all respondents, 6.6% were narcissistic, 19.9% had low self-esteem, and 34.6% had social media addiction. There was a significant relationship between narcissism and social media addiction (p=0.021) and between self-esteem and social media addiction (p=0.002).Conclusion: There is a relationship between narcissism, self-esteem, and social media addiction in university students. This indicates the importance of preliminary psychological screening in students, especially regarding self-esteem, narcissism, and social media addiction, to develop approaches that will ensure good academic achievements and physical health among students.

Abstract

Introduction: Eating disorders can affect sleep quality, especially teenagers, because adolescence is a period of physical and psychological changes. Hormone release and glucose metabolism occur during sleep, whereas the neuroendocrine system influences appetite. This study objective is to find out the association of the risk of eating disorders with adolescents sleep quality because adolescents today have not cared about eating time and food consumed. Methods: This research was cross-sectional analytic research of 275 respondents of junior and senior high school students in an international school located in West Jakarta who met the inclusion criteria in October 2019. The measuring instrument was a demographic questionnaire, screening questionnaire, Eating disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Bivariate analysis was used to analyze the correlation between the risk of eating disorder and sleep quality. Results: Most respondents were women as many as 173 people (62,9%), while men as many as 102 people (37,1%). Most respondents, 125 people (45,5%), were 12-13 years old, and the class with most respondents was class 8 as many as 62 people (22,6%). Respondents with the risk of eating disorders as many as 156 people (56,7%) while those with poor sleep quality as many as 240 people (87,3%). Among respondents with the risk of eating disorders, 151 people (96,8%) had poor sleep quality, and five people (3.,2%) had good sleep quality. Chi-square test results showed a significant relationship between the risk of eating disorder with sleep quality (p=0,000) Conclusion: There is a relationship between the risk of eating disorders on sleep quality in junior and senior school students at Kairos Gracia International School in 2019, so the students need to be given knowledge and advice as well counselling for the student who has a risk of eating disorder to achieve a better quality of life

Abstract

Introduction: Plasmodium knowlesi is a malaria agent that initially only infected monkeys, Macaca fascicularis and Macaca nemestrina. P. knowlesi has developed to infect zoonotically by transmitting from animals to humans by the female Anopheles vector. Since the first endemic incidence of knowlesi malaria in 2004 in Sarawak, Malaysia, the number of its infection cases has expanded to almost all regions in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. The P. knowlesi infection cases increase results from complex interactions between humans, agents, and environment. Individual and environmental factors are risk factors for knowlesi malaria. The life cycle of P. knowlesi is concise and tends to infect all erythrocyte types along with other Plasmodium species. The P. knowlesi morphology and clinical features are very similar to the other Plasmodium species, making them difficult to differentiate and contributing to the increase in infection cases. Presently, the knowlesi malaria molecular PCR diagnosis technique is the most accurate method. Immediate treatment is needed to prevent severe malaria and death. Objective: This article aims to study epidemiology, risk factors, life cycle, morphology, clinical symptoms, diagnosis, and the latest management of knowlesi malaria cases, especially in Indonesia. Method: Writing articles used a literature review method from various literature on knowlesi malaria. Discussion: Knowledge of epidemiology, risk factors, life cycle, morphology, clinical symptoms, diagnosis, and management of malaria cases can add information to the development of research on the distribution and control of knowlesi malaria. This article can help accelerate the target of malaria elimination in Indonesia by 2030.

Abstract

Background: The growth of gadgets and social media usage among children might affect their physical activity. It shows that high internet usage among elementary school children will incur low physical activity. It is an overweight risk factor for children that might lead into growth and/or development disorder. Methods: Observational analysis with a cross-sectional approach among elementary school children grades 4-6 in North Jakarta with purposive sampling. Physical activity was identified using Physical Activity Questionnaire of Children (PAQ-C). Nutritional status based on examination of height, weight and calculation of body mass index. The analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test. Results: There were 322 children from 3 different elementary schools in North Jakarta consisting of 136 (42.2%) female and 186 (57.8%) male. Approximately 160 (47.5%) subjects have no parental supervision during gadgets usage and 54 (16.8%) have not had education in regards to the matter. There are 246 (76.3%) subjects have social media account with Facebook as the most frequently use application. Most of subjects (50.3%) using gadgets more than 4 hours per day. There were 256 (79.5%) subjects with low physical activity and 111 (34.5%) overweight children. The gadgets usage duration did not have a significant correlation with body mass index (p>0.05;r=0.21) but had a significant correlation with physical activity (p<0.05;r =0,33). Conclusion: Majority of elementary school children are social media active user and using gadgets with minimal parental supervision and assistance. This circumstance among children has significant correlation with their physical activities.

Abstract

Refractive error is a condition in which the cornea and lens fail to focus the light, resulting in reduced visual efficiency. Twelve million children are experiencing refractive errors worldwide and uncorrected refractive errors in children have been reported to cause asthenopia. This study aimed to determine the association between the types of refractive errors and asthenopia in children. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 111 students aged 10-13 years old in a public elementary school in Indonesia, SDN Penjaringan 10, in 2019. A questionnaire was used to assess asthenopia and the Snellen Chart, trial frames, and trial lenses were used for refractive errors examination. It was demonstrated that 87.4% of respondents experienced asthenopia, and 53.2% of respondents suffered from uncorrected refractive errors, mostly due to myopia. Fisher’s exact test results showed an association between refractive errors and asthenopia (p=0.019) with all myopic students experienced asthenopia. However, there was no significant association between astigmatism and asthenopia (p=0.754). In conclusion, not all types of refractive errors are associated with asthenopia.

Abstract

TRAINING OF ANTY-HYPERTENSION CADRES IN RW 15, PENJARINGAN, NORTH JAKARTA. The prevalence of NCD Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) in Indonesia is increasing, including hypertension. DKI Jakarta is one of the provinces with high prevalence of hypertension. To prevent complications due hypertension, regular screening and monitoring of risk factors is needed. Screening and monitoring of risk factors have been carried out by health officers through Posbindu PTM, also the active role of the community is needed. RW 15 Penjaringan is one of the RW with high prevalence of hypertension (29.9%) even though they already have Posbindu. The problems that occur in their Posbindu are the low number of visits by people with hypertension, the cadres lacks of knowledge about hypertension, lack of skills in measuring blood pressure, and lack of tensimeter to cover people with hypertension. To overcome this problem, RW 15 runs an anti-hypertension program that requires active and skilled cadres. It is necessary to train cadres for the sustainability of the program. These cadre training includes a pre-post test to measure cadres' knowledge, provide education about hypertension, then demonstrations and simulations of blood pressure measurement. After that, the cadres' knowledge of hypertension increased, and all cadres were able to measure blood pressure using a tensimeter. It is hoped that when the program run, cadres will be able to apply what was done during the training properly, and material refreshment should be done to maintain the quality of cadres’ knowledge.
