Abstract

This research aims to analyze the problems in implementing communicative skill in this Institution and finds out its strategies to solve the problem. This research is a field research, using the observation method, interview and documentary data collection. In analyzing the data, researcher established several analytical stages; data collection, reduction, review and evaluation. The results of this research indicated problems that students face in practicing speaking skill; 1) Today, the Sheikhs are rare in using Arabic in teaching, and 2) the students themselves were eager to learn Arabic language than communication. They were shy in practicing it because of concerning about making mistakes, and worried about criticism. As for the challenges in training communicative skill are encouraging students and motivating them to prefer using actual language (speech and writing skill) over non-actual language (listening and reading skill). Researcher obtained some suggested strategies in building linguistic environment for Arabic speaking skill, which motivate students to practice and encourage them to speak in Arabic without worry of making errors in grammar, as well as building and reviving the Arabic Communities program. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis berbagai problem yang dihadapi dalam meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi di Ma’had ini dan mengungkap berbagai strategi yang ditempuh untuk mengatasinya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian lapangan menggunakan metode observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi dalam pengumpulan datanya. Adapun dalam menganalisis data, maka peneliti menempuh beberapa tahapan analisis mulai dari koleksi data, reduksi, review dan evaluasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa beberapa masalah yang dihadapi oleh para mahasantri dalam mengembangkan keterampilan berkomunikasi bahasa Arab mereka antara lain; Saat ini beberapa Masyaikh justru jarang menggunakan bahasa Arab dalam menjelaskan materi, para mahasantri lebih gandrung mempelajari Qowa’id (gramatika) dan mengabaikan aspek komunikasi. Selain itu, mereka cendrung malu karena khawatir melakukan kesalahan dalam berbahasa dan mereka takut dikritik. Sehingga tantangan terbesar melatih kemampuan komunikasi bahasa Arab di Ma’had ini adalah bagaimana mendorong dan memotivasi mereka untuk menggunakan bahasa yang produktif (keterampilan berbicara dan menulis) daripada keterampilan yang reseptif (keterampilan mendengar dan membaca). Peneliti mengemukakan beberapa rekomendasi tentang strategi membangun lingkungan berbahasa untuk menunjang kemampuan berbicara bahasa Arab di Ma’had ini yaitu memotivasi mahasantri untuk terus berlatih dan tidak takut salah (keliru gramatikal) dalam berkomunikasi. Kemudian membentuk kembali kelompok atau komunitas bahasa Arab sebagai wadah sharing dan diskusi serta praktik berkomunikasi. Kata Kunci: Keterampilan Berbicara, Lingkungan Berbahasa, Permasalahan, and Strategi.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development and determine the perspective of calligraphy education in Yogyakarta. This research uses a qualitative approach with case studies to obtain a deep and comprehensive understanding of a phenomenon experienced by the research subject. The results showed that the development of calligraphy education was seen at three points of concentration; first, Islamic Higher Education (PTAI); second, in Islamic boarding schools or Islamic-based schools, as one of the learning curriculum materials for students; third; non-institutional calligraphy coaching. This study also contributes to an overview of the dynamics of the development of contemporary Islamic calligraphy in Yogyakarta. It appears a long process passed towards a work that can be enjoyed and deserves to be appreciated.
