Abstract

Abstract: This research is aimed to find out whether there is a significant influence of using Visual Picture Sequence towards students’ ability in writing procedure text. This research used quantitative method and quasi experimental design, conducted by using pre-test – treatment - post test design. The instrument used in this research was test (pre-test and post-test). This research was conducted in two classes; experimental class and control class, exactly in English classroom. The population of this research was the twelfth grade of MAN 2 KOTA SERANG in academic year 2020/2021. The samples of this research were XII IPS 2 as experimental class and XII IPS 3 as control class both consisted 33 students. The experimental class was taught by using Visual Picture Sequence and the control class without using Visual Picture Sequence. The data of this research was collected by giving the writing test about procedure text in pre-test and post-test. The post test mean score of control class was 79,75 and the post-test mean score of experimental class was 84,75. The collected data were analyzed by using t-test. The result of data analysis showed that the value of t-count was higher than the value of t-table (11,2 ≥ 2.00) at the level of significant of a 0.05 and degree of freedom is 64. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. From those findings, it could be concluded that there was significant influence of using Visual Picture Sequence towards students’ ability in writing procedure text. Abstract

Reading is one of the language skills that should be mastered by students. In reading, we gain information and knowledge from written text. The objective of this research is to find out whether there is an influence of using Kahoot on students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 17 Kota Serang. The research methodology used was quasi-experimental. The researcher took two classes, one class as an experimental class and one class as a control class. To collect the data, the researcher used instruments consisting of multiple-choice questions of recount text which had been tried out before the treatment. The instrument consisted of pre-test and post-test. After collecting all the data, the researcher used t-test formula to test the hypothesis. From the calculation of the independent sample t-test, it resulted that tcount was 2.7940 and ttable was 2.0075. It means Ha is accepted because tcount > ttable. Therefore, there is an influence of using Kahoot on students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 17 Kota Serang in the academic year of 2021/2022.

Moreover, the result of the post-test revealed that the experimental class was a significantly higher score than the control class. In addition, the result of the Independent Sample T-Test revealed that the sig-2 tailed value 0.00<0.05. This is also supported by the results of Effect Size test which has value 3.24 and the category was strong effect (significant). Therefore it was proven that the use of animation movie was effective toward students’ writing of descriptive text at eight grade of SMPIT Al-Mubarok in the academic year 2023/2024.
