Abstract

Arabic language, in its sociological context is divided into two varieties: fusha and ‘amiyya. Arabic fusha is the official language and perceived as the language of Islam. In contrast to the fusha, ‘amiyya is the language used by the Arab people in their daily conversations. However, this ‘amiyya is considered as inferior. The method used in this study was qualitative that stressed the interaction between language and its sociological context. The method assumed that social and political events affected language use in a particular society. The paper tries to re-popularize the two terms used by Ferguson that are "high variety" (H) and “low variety” (L) culture in analyzing the two languages varieties. Besides, the paper explores the tension of the two languages through contemporary social and political events taking place in the Arab World. The Arabic fusha is perceived as a representation of “H” culture because it is a language used in religious literature and official writings, while the ‘amiyya referred to as a representation of “L” variety culture because it is used only as a medium of regular communication.

Abstract

The Great trust in Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor was shown by the community by the arrival of thousands of prospective students from all over Indonesia to register and take the selection exam at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor. Imla material is one of the materials in the entrance exam of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor. Bimago Yogyakarta is an institution that organized preparation courses for prospective students of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor. The purpose of this service is to equip teachers to carry out Gontor entrance guidance. Bimago Yogyakarta collaborated with IKPM Yogayakarta held a briefing for teachers on the Imla' Teaching Method . This community service is carried out using a workshop method with three stages, material presentation, teaching practice and evaluation. The results of community service is using two methods of self preparation method and student as observation object in teaching of imla’ material.

Abstract

Pesantren merupakan salah satu khazanah dalam pendidikan Indonesia. Hal ini disebabkan model pendidikan yang berbeda dan alumni yang dihasilkan. Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor adalah Pesantren yang telah berdiri sejak 1926. Model pendidikan dan peran alumni menjadi salah pertimbangan orang tua untuk memasukkan anaknya ke Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor.  Persayaratan masuk Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor adalah kemampuan baca Al-Qur’an. Sebagai upaya untuk mempersiapkan calon santri diadakanlah pelatihan baca Al-Qur’an dan pendampingan calon santri. Kegiatan pengabdian dilaksanakan pada masa pandemi covid-19. Metode yang dipergunakan adalah metode sorogan daring dan mengirimkan materi video ke peserta. Untuk pendampingan dilaksanakan selama pendaftaran sampai pengumuman kelulusan. Pengabdian berjalan lancar dengan kelulusan peserta pelatihan sebesar 95,91%. Para peserta yang lulus menjadi santri Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor.
