Abstract

This research aim to learn and analyze the capability of student’s mathematical connection in circle major. The data collected are instrumen test result and interview result with several student’s who are chosen randomly. The method of this research use qualitative descriptive method. The population of this research are second grade student’s of Junior High School in Madani Boarding School West Bandung. Based on the capability of mathematical connection test result the first indicator are finding relation among various representation concept and prosedure, then aunderstanding the relation in mathematic topic, the presentage are 41%. While the second indicator are understanding the representation of the same equivalen concept, the presentage are 70%. The third indicator presentage, use math in others study field or in daily life. Each presentage are 23%, 21%, 43%, and 35%. Meanwhile for the fourth indicator, use the evaluate the connection between math topic with the topic outside are 95%. Beside that interview result show some of difficulties faced by student’s in doing mathematical connection problem are 1) can’t understanding what the purpose of the question, 2) confuse with the formula that should be used, 3) error in using arithmatic operation.Keyword : mathematical connection, circle

Abstract

Education is a conscious and planned effort organized by school institutions to guide and train learners to grow awareness about the existence of life and the ability to solve every problem of life that always arises. It is reminded that teaching and learning activities are held in order to provide students with learning experiences. Selection of learning models used by teachers in delivering taught material can affect learning outcomes. One model of cooperative learning is Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model. The TGT learning model is a group learning model that involves student activity with an exchange of thoughts or ideas constructing knowledge amongst students in groups when getting assigned. This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK) or Classroom Action Research is a research that is intended to provide information on how appropriate action to improve teachers' ability and student activeness. The results of the implementation of the first cycle of action I have achieved the classical indicator that has reached 62.5% students score above 70 and the results in cycle II reach 92% students score above 70.

The study was designed in the form of experiment using correlational method with quantitative appoach. The population in this research is junior high school student in Cimahi and the sample as many as 28 people determined by purposive sampling technique in one of junior high school in Cimahi. The instrument in the research is the test of mathematics understanding ability as much as 5 items and the scale of student’s self-confidence as much as 36 scale statment. Based on the results and discussion, it is concluded that the students’ mathematics understanding ability influenced positively by self-confidence equal to 74,6%, whilw 25,4% influenced by factors other than student self-confidence.
