Abstract

Bahasa Inggris ialah bahasa yang sebagian besar digunakan didunia, sehingga Bahasa Inggris dijadikan Bahasa Universal, di tanah air kita sendiri Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa yang harus dipelajari, tetapi dalam proses pembelajarannya Bahasa Inggris masih dipelajari dengan metode buku dan papan tulis sehingga banyak murid yang merasa jenuh dan kurang memperhatikannya. Penggunaan media pembelajaran diperlukan untuk menunjang proses belajar supaya lebih efektif dan efisien. Di karenakan hal itu dirancanglah aplikasi pembelajaran berbasis android yang berisi materi-materi Bahasa Inggris. Metode perancangan aplikasi yang dipakai untuk membangun aplikasi ini yaitu MDLC dengan tahapan konsep, desain, pengumpulan material, pemasangan, pengujian, dan distribusi. Penelitian ini menghasilkan aplikasi media pembelajaran berbasis android dengan teori Bahasa Inggris pronoun, tobe, dan tenses. Dengan adanya aplikasi ini maka masyarakat Indonesia bisa mempelajari Bahasa Inggris kapanpun dan dimanapun tanpa adanya batasan waktu.

Abstract

Nowadays, the utilization of Information Technology has become the breadwinner or the main power in supporting the business processes of an organization, including educational organizations. The information technology utilization in the education sector, especially at Private Vocational High School (SMK) Al-Hikmah Tarogong Kaler, has not fully followed the current development where the application used in supporting the current activities has not been integrated between one field and another. This case provides the impact on the ineffectiveness of data redundancy because of the difficulty in accessing data and information between fields. Moreover, the use of unplanned systems in the master plan of system development (blueprint) can cause vulnerability to system disassembly which can also be caused by differences in data structure and system platform. The purpose of this study is to design the school's information system enterprise architecture. Besides, this research also aimed to create an enterprise system blueprint for Al-Hikmah Vocational High School. The method used in this study is The Open Group Architecture Framework Architecture Development Method (TOGAF ADM) and it is restricted only into the Migration Planning phase, and the budget for development is not discussed. The study reveals that the information systems and technology blueprints are compiled into the list of system needs and the needs in the form of application candidates for each business process are arranged based on priority needs

Abstract

This study aims to investigate students’ perspectives on digital classroom organization implemented during online learning in teaching ESP in the context of higher education level at Garut Technology of Institute. To evaluate the organization of digital class utilization in language learning and determine the barriers and opportunities during the process, a mixed-method design with a close-ended questionnaire and an open-ended questionnaire was employed to reveal the students’ perspectives. 90 informatics engineering students studying English for Specific Purposes (ESP) were recruited in this study. The findings revealed that the students positively argued that their lecturer is capable of organizing and implementing various digital platforms during online learning. Most of the students are still motivated and engaged in learning even though it is conducted virtually. Besides, the platforms used by the lecturer synchronously and asynchronously are deemed to be effectively able to replace the face-to-face offline media since it keeps the lecturer and students interacting with one another. Some of the barriers come from the stability of internet access, students’ data, available devices, and particular technical issues. The implications suggest that both lecturers and students should prepare to adopt the digital classroom since it will be the new direction in language teaching.

Abstract

This study is intended to discuss the phenomenon occurring in phonological regulation, mainly assimilation. The study attempts to analyze the manners and types of assimilation that occur in non-native English speakers? pronunciation practice and to know the awareness of the students in the implementation of assimilation. This is a case study that employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach through interviews and observation. The participant of this study is nine students of the non-English study of Garut Technology of the institute. The participants are chosen by using the purposive sampling technique. In the process of collecting data, students are given the transcript of speeches to be pronounced and the words and phrases are classified based on the manners and types of assimilation. The study reveals that the manners and types of assimilation mostly appearing in speakers? pronunciation practice are coalescent assimilation and the rest are progressive, regressive, and full assimilations. It shows that most students of the non-English study of Garut Technology of Institute have not fully been aware of the implementation of assimilation in their pronunciation practice. The implication of this study is to explore the importance of assimilation to help student lighten their English pronunciation when they speak at a rapid speed.

Abstract

Needs analysis as the basis of English for specific purposes (ESP) is deemed crucial to identify the target materials or languages used in the teaching-learning process and to design an effective curriculum. This study aims to investigate engineering students' needs for English-speaking materials in the English club program of one private university in Garut. To address the result of ESP analysis, the researchers used the descriptive qualitative method with questionnaires and interviews as the instruments. The need analysis result revealed that the English learning goal for the students in the English club program is to communicate actively in English. Their interest in learning English in this program is to improve their speaking ability to support their formal study as university students since it influences their academic performance and prepares them to fulfill the demands of job requirements in the future. Most students consider that the materials they need to learn are related to job life, academic purposes as engineering students, and social interaction. The result also suggests that the module created by the tutor for the English club program should focus on topics related to job life that are relevant to the current situation.

Abstract

Selecting the appropriate texts as the authentic material for English teaching, particularly at the university level, matched with students’ mastery level is still challenging. This study attempts to investigate the readability level of reading texts through the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) issued by ChatGPT, focused on whether the complexity level of the texts matches the standard level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) by proposed British Council. Through the qualitative design with content analysis, this study examines eighteen texts classified following CEFR levels issued by ChatGPT. It analyzes their lexical density, grammatical intricacy, and lexical variation to know the complexity of the texts. The analysis revealed that the complexity level of the texts issued by ChatGPT has not thoroughly followed the standard level of the texts used by the British Council on the CEFR level, indicating that several texts are inappropriate with their complexity levels. It is found that the complexity level of the texts issued by ChatGPT is determined by the length of the texts that increase from the basic level to the proficient level seen from the number of words in each text, not by their lexical density, grammatical intricacy, and lexical variation indexes. The study provides implications for the lecturer to carefully select the text used as teaching material issued by ChatGPT by relying on the lexico-grammatical analysis of the text to help students achieve the comprehension stage.
