Abstract

Various studies investigated the use of video material in the English classroom. Several studies also observed the effectiveness of asynchronous learning, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, there are limited studies discussing the utilization of video material in asynchronous learning. This is quantitative research designed as a survey to obtain students’ perception of the utilization of video material in English asynchronous learning. This research points out that the students have a positive response to the utilization of video material in English asynchronous learning. They are convinced that English asynchronous learning with video is fun, efficient, effective, enjoyable, and easier to learn. The result also shows that the utilization of video material in English asynchronous learning has several benefits: it increases students’ comprehension of the learning material, increases students’ learning motivation, and helps the students enhance their vocabulary. Eventually, the students believe that the material can be explained well via video.

Abstract

Peluang perawat bekerja ke luar negeri terbuka lebar, tetapi sayang terganjal oleh berbagai kendala salah satunya kesiapan dan keterampilan wawancara kerja dalam bahasa asing. Keterampilan ini sering kali terabaikan dalam kurikulum keperawatan mengingat banyaknya materi lain yang harus diberikan kepada mahasiswa. Artikel ini mendeskripsikan hasil pengabdian masyarakat kerja sama antara Universitas Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin dan Universitas Sari Mulia dalam menyiapkan mahasiswa keperawatan untuk bekerja ke luar negeri. Program pengabdian ini berupa kegiatan esktrakurikuler di luar jam perkuliahan dalam bentuk pelatihan virtual secara intensif yang berlangsung selama dua minggu. Sebanyak empat puluh mahasiswa prodi S-1 Keperawatan mengikuti program ini. Materi yang diberikan berupa teknik mencari lowongan kerja, persiapan wawancara, hingga praktik wawancara. Sekitar 70% dari peserta berhasil menuntaskan program ini dengan baik. Para peserta tersebut telah dibekali dengan berbagai tip serta mendapat masukan perbaikan untuk draft transkip wawancara yang telah mereka susun sendiri. Berdasarkan hasil angket, peserta merasa kegiatan ini sangat bermanfaat bagi mereka. Kegiatan ini diharapkan bisa memberikan implikasi berupa peningkatan kepercayaan diri para calon perawat tersebut ketika suatu saat mereka mau melamar pekerjaan ke luar negeri.

Abstract

The development of education in Indonesia is growing rapidly along with technological advances. The use of technology can be an excellent supporter in learning English in universities. Learning media such as online quiz applications should be an alternative way to teach foreign languages, especially English. The focus of this research was to identify the students' satisfaction and motivation in learning grammar mediated by Quizizz. This research used a qualitative approach through sampling techniques with Saturated Sampling (census) on English Language Education Study Program at Sari Mulia University in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. From the results obtained through interviews and questionnaires, each student has various opinions regarding learning grammar mediated by Quizizz. Students feel satisfied and considered Quizizz is more interesting than other learning media because it is easy to use with an attractive appearance and it is self-paced so each student gets a chance to answer without feeling rushed. Students consider Quizizz to be an easy-to-use application and one of the teaching media that can increase students’ motivation to learn grammar easier even though there are several limitations and problems experienced by students using Quizizz, including the limitations of internet connections but it doesn't make them give up in learning and keep feeling excited.

Abstract

In English, there are four skills which must be mastered, they are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. One of the language skills is writing that important for learners to practice their capability and their understanding, how to send ideas, and how to arrange words well. The objectives of this study were students’ motivation and ability to write narrative text who are taught through web-based learning, the writing motivation and ability of students who are not taught through web-based learning and to find out whether or not there is a significant effect of web-based learning to the students' motivation and ability to write narrative text for tenth-grade students of senior high school. The research was conducted at Muhammadiyah Boarding School in Prambanan Yogyakarta. This study used experimental research with nonrandomized-groups pre-test post-test control group design as the research design. The data were collected by using tests and questionnaires in the form of pre-test and post-test. The result of inferential analysis, showed by the result of the t-test, was found that the value of the ttable (2.001) was lower than the tobtained (3.532). Thus, H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. It means that web-based learning had a significant effect on improving students’ writing motivation and ability.
