Abstract

This research is to develop one method of learning that is a video containing tutorial about praying procedures in English. The video is designed to facilitate students to understand the praying procedures as well as practice their competence in English, especially listening and speaking. Some experts and the users validated the effectiveness of the research. Those who validated are people who have competence in praying procedures, English and multimedia. Therefore, there must be three experts in this research. The users are given some questionnaires asking their opinions about the video. The sample of the research was taken from college students majoring in Communication and Islam Broadcasting in IAIN Salatiga. There were 35 students in one class. Video of praying tutorial produced through this research get goodresponses from students. They feel that by watching the video and see the audio and visual movements of the prayer contained in the video can make them able to remember more clearly how to do praying, especially for praying that is not done everyday.

Abstract

This research is a preliminary study of an empirical research aimed to develop an English training model to enhance teachers’ communicative competence in bilingual schools. This preliminary study aims to give a description of the schools’ background and preparation to run bilingual programs, teachers’ background and experience in teaching using English, and the challenges related to communicative competence which are faced by teachers inside and outside the classrooms. This study was a qualitative study and the data were collected using semi-structured interview, open-ended questionnaire, and focus group discussion. This study involved 54 teachers and 5 school principals. The results of the study revealed that the schools under this study were under the category of additive bilingual education; the teachers in the bilingual programs were English and non-English Department graduates; and the challenges faced by the teachers were mostly related with their teaching experience and educational background. The findings of this study will be useful to recommend teacher trainings as a part of teachers’ professional development.

Abstract

This study aimed at investigating students’ perception on the use of Reflective Learning Portfolio (RLP) in teaching writing. This study, which followed the case study design, was conducted in a class of 31 students at a university in Indramayu, Indonesia. During one semester, the reflective learning portfolio (RLP) was used as the treatment to teach writing. Questionnaire and interview were given to students to express their perception to the use of reflective learning portfolio in their classroom. The result of the study  shows that most students believed reflective learning portfolio give positive impact on their writing. The reflective learning portfolio involves learners in a process of continues reflection on their work and collaboration with their peers and lecturer which has focus on selective evidence of learning that makes students become involved in self-evaluation and begin to monitor their own progress over time.

Abstract

Telah banyak penelitian dilakukan dalam upaya pengembangan model pembelajaran flipped classroom untukmeningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran, namun penelitian yang menggabungkan model pembelajaran flippedclassroom dengan weblog belum banyak mendapatkan perhatian. Tujuan dari penelitian ini antara lain untuk:1) mendeskripsikan langkah-langkah penerapan pembelajaran flipped classroom berbasis weblog pada kelasContent and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL); 2) mengidentifikasi efek dari penerapan modelpembelaarn ini terhadap minat belajar dan kualitas pembelajaran. Design penelitian yang digunakan adalahpenelitian tindakan kelas yang melibatkan 32 IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro. Teknik pengumpulan data yangdigunakan antara lain observasi, interview, pre- dan post-test, serta kuesioner. Analisis data yang digunakanadalah theme-analysis. Hasil penelitiian ini menunjukkan bahwa: 1) terdapat beberapa langkah dalammenerapkan model pembelajaran flipped classroom berbasis weblog, antara lain pre-action, action, dan tahappost-action; 2) terdapat beberapa efek positif yang dihasilkan setelah penerapan model pembelajaran ini antaralain meningkatkan motivasi, minat belajar dan hasil belajar mahamahamahasiswa. Penelitian lanjutan tentangbagaimana respon mahamahasiswa terhadap penerapan flipped classroom berbasis weblog direkomendasikanuntuk dilakukan demi perbaikan penerapan model pembelajaran ini.
