Abstract

Background: Teaching about dental and oral health has been given to elementary school students through the UKGS Puskesmas program, but the results of the initial survey conducted on 10 grade IV students only 3 students who have good OHIS criteria. Good oral hygiene can be achieved through good brushing and actually enhancing the skills in brushing your teeth through audio-visual (video) media and reproduction. This study aims to reduce the OHI-S status in Class IV Elementary School 23 / IX students in Pondok Meja Village, Mestong Jambi District in 2019, which can be seen through the results of the OHI-S examination. Methods: This quantitative study used a quasi-experimental non-randomized control group pretest and post-test design (non equivalent control group) with two groups, namely the intervention group and the control group. Total sampling used in sampling a number of 40 respondents. The analytical tool used the Wilcoxon test and the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The results of the study were determined by the criteria for pre-test dental and oral hygiene (OHI-S) for both grade IV students in the group with good criteria, especially (7.5%). The criteria for post-test dental and oral hygiene (OHI-S) of grade IV students who have good criteria are the intervention group (42.5% and the control group (7.5%) and the results of the unpaired group difference test show the number 0.001. Because the value of 0.001 <0.05 means that There is a difference between the OHI-S scores of the intervention group and the control group. Conclusion: combination of demonstration and video methods was significantly inprove the OHI-S

Abstract

Background: Black tea (Camellia sinensis) is believed to have considerable benefits and efficacy for life and health. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of gargling steeped black tea leaves in reducing plaque index. Methods: This research is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest and posttest design. A total of 10 respondents participated in this study. Every night the respondents were asked to brush their teeth without toothpaste and followed by gargling with Aquadest, brewing black tea and Chlorhexidine for 5 days each, and measuring the plaque index at pre and post treatment. Statistical analysis t-test was used to test the mean difference between before and after treatment and ANOVA to compare differences in plaque index changes between the three groups. Results: Significant differences in plaque index values before and after treatment were found in the group that rinsed with tea (p = 0.019) and in the group that rinsed with chlorhexidine (p = 0.005). However, there was no significant difference between gargling with black tea and gargling with Chlorhexidine (p = 0.222). There was a significant difference (p=0.010) in plaque index changes between the three groups. Conclusion: Gargling with black tea has been shown to be effective in reducing plaque formation

Abstract

Problem statement:. This tooth brushing technique consists of several methods that can be used. Its success also depends on the brushing method used. Tooth brushing methods include Bass, Stillman, Fones, Horizontal, Vertical, Roll, and Combination. The behavior of brushing teeth in Jambi Province is 96.4% who brush their teeth every day and 0.69% when brushing their teeth properly. Objectives: 1) To find out the average plaque score for elementary school students who brush their teeth using the horizontal method and the combination method as measured by PHP-M. 2) Knowing the difference between horizontal brushing and the combination method on plaque scores in elementary school students in Jambi City.Method: The method used in this research is to use the waterfall method. The data will be analyzed analytically (bivariate). After getting the data, then the data is tested for normality, when the data is declared more than 0.05 then the Independent T Test is used, which is a type of parametric test to find out whether there is a difference from the estimated value with the value of the statistical calculation.Scientific finding results, and a short conclusion : The obtained significance is 0.000 less than the significant level (α) = 0.05, which means that there is a significant difference between the average plaque scores after the combination method group treatment with the horizontal method. In table t obtained t count -6.119, which means that the average plaque score after the combination method group treatment is lower than the horizontal group.
