Abstract

Spondylosis is a type of osteoarthritis that attacks the spine caused by a degenerative process that disrupts the function and structure of the spine. This is because the lumbar area receives the greatest load when the body moves and when it supports weight. Besides that, the movement of carrying or lifting very heavy objects can also trigger lumbar spondylosis. This type of research uses a quasi-experimental one group pre_test and post_test design which aims to determine the effect of Micro Wave Diathermy (MWD) and William Flexion Exercise on reducing pain in low back pain due to lumbar spondylosis. While the sampling technique uses Total Sampling, namely by determining the inclusion and exclusion criteria set by the researcher. This research was conducted at the physiotherapy clinic of RSU Haji Makassar from 10 May to 10 July 2015, the samples were lumbar spondylosis patients with a total sample of 10 people who fit the inclusion criteria, namely aged 30-60 years, male and female, there were no contraindications of the two therapeutic applications, willing to be routinely treated 3 times within 2 months, and willing to be a respondent. The results showed that Microwave Diathermy (MWD) and William Flexion Exercise can reduce pain in Lumbar Spondylosis with an average pain reduction of 2.4700. Meanwhile, the results of the Paired t test obtained a value of ρ = 0.000 <α 0.05 which means that H1 is accepted so that it can be concluded that Microwave Diathermy (MWD) and William Flexion Exercise have a significant effect on reducing pain in low back pain due to spondylosis. It can be concluded that the administration of MWD and William Flexion exercise can produce a significant reduction in pain in patients with Lumbar Spondylosis and therefore it is suggested to physiotherapists in the practice area and in hospitals to use the MWD and William Flexion Exercise modalities as one of the main modalities in Lumbar Spondylosis conditions Keywords: MWD, William Flexion Exercise, Lumbar Spondylosis.

Abstract

Background : Tennis Elbow is a complaint of pain in the forearm which usually radiates to the dorsum of the hand due to inflammation or non-specific degeneration of the extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) muscle in the lateral epicondyle of the humerus. It is diagnosed clinically by the sensation of pain and tenderness over the lateral epicondyle of the humerus which is aggravated during dorsiflexion of the restricted wrist. Methods: This type of research is a quasi experiment with a ramdomized pre test-post test two group design. This study consisted of 2 sample groups, namely treatment group 1 which was given Eccentric Exercise and Ultrasound interventions and treatment group 2 which was given Passive Streaching and Ultrasound interventions. The sample of this study were students of the Makassar Health Ministry Polytechnic majoring in Physiotherapy who suffered from Type II Tennis Elbow with inclusion and exclusion criteria in sampling. Results: the mean value of tennis elbow in the First Treatment group (Ultrasound and Eccentric Exercise) is the value of P = 0.012 <0.05 where the pre test is 6.650 ± 1.046 and the post test is 4.150 ± 0.594 with an average difference of 4.49 ± 1.035 which means there is an increase the average Tennis Elbow is 4.49 after intervention (Ultrasound and Eccentric Exercise). The mean value of the Tennis Elbow pre test in the Treatment Two group (Ultrasound and Passive Stretching) had a value of P = 0.022 <0.05 and the pre test value was 4.180 ± 0.925 and the post test was 2.490 ± 1.080 with an average difference of 2.69 ± 1.178, which means that there was an average increase in Tennis Elbow by 2.69 after the intervention (Ultrasound and Passive Stretching). The results of the Mann-Withney test were p <0.05 which means that there was a significant difference in the mean between the first treatment group (Ultrasound and Eccentric Exercise) and the second treatment group (Ultrasound and Passive Stretching). This shows that Ultrasound and Eccentric Exercise are significantly more effective than Ultrasound and Passive Stretching in reducing VAS in Type II Tennis Elbow sufferers. Conclusion: Ultrasound Intervention and Eccentric Exercise have a more significant effect than Ultrasound and Passive Stretching on Reducing Pain in Patients with Type II Tennis Elbow. Keywords: Ultrasound, Eccentric Exercise, Passive Streaching, Type II Tennis Elbow.

Abstract

Neck pain radiating to the upper trapezius muscles can interfere with the patient's daily activities due to the limited range of motion of the neck, the cervical extensors and flexors become tense due to changes in cervical biomechanics and generally affect workers who require repetition of movements coupled with high work speeds. If you hold your head down for too long it will cause muscle tension or spasm in the neck area and there will be limited neck movement so that the neck is functionally disturbed. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of muscle energy techniques in neck muscle pain, spasm of the upper travezius muscles. The design of this study was experimental with a pre test-post test one group design. The research subjects met the criteria, namely neck pain myofascial trigger point of the upper trapezius muscle, men and women with moderate to severe pain intensity, willing to be respondents and no musculoskeletal disorders. This research was conducted in June-July 2018. 10 patients with upper trapezius pain (age 21-23 years) were given muscle energy techniques with minimal isometric contractions and stretching 3 times/week, isometric movements repeated 5 times and stretching on the upper trapezius for 45 second. Pain was measured with a Visual analog scale at the beginning and end of the intervention. The results of the study found a significant reduction in pain with scores (p <0.05). The conclusion of this study is that muscle energy technique is effective in reducing pain in cases of spasm of the upper travezius muscle.
