Abstract

This paper provides an explanation of the condition of phytoplankton in the estuary waters of the west coast of South Sulawesi. The study was carried out on four estuaries namely Tallo, Marusu, Polong and Battoe with spatial sampling from inside the estuary to the outside of the estuary. The results obtained were found in three classes, namely Bacillariophyceae class, Cyanophyceae class, and Dinophyceae class with 19 phytoplankton genera. With an abundance of phytoplankton ranging from 352 - 5304 cells / L, the highest abundance is in the Tallo estuary. Meanwhile, the highest diversity index (H ') was found in Tallo estuary and the highest dominance index (D) was in Tallo estuary. Parameters that characterize high abundance estuaries are nitrate and TSS.

Abstract

HABs were types of phytoplankton considered dangerous in the sea. Its appearance was triggered by an increase in nutrients and the presence of physical and chemical factors in the optimal conditions to support its growth. For that reason, research on the analysis of the causes of the emergence of HABs in the coastal waters of Makassar has been carried out. The implementation is carried out from March to June 2017 using non-experimental methods. The results showed that there were seven types of HABs, such as Protoperidinium, Gymnodinium, Ceratium, Prorocentrum, Gyrodinium, Gonyaulax, and Dinophysis. That types from the Dinophyceae Class. The appearance of the types of HABs was due to the influence of temperature with the relationship were very strong and positive.

Abstract

HABs is a term that describes the species of harmful phytoplankton found in the waters. One of the factors triggering its development is the increase in the concentration of nutrient types nitrogen (N) and Posfor (P) is very high. To that end, a study aimed at detecting potentially dangerous types of phytoplankton (HABs) in a water has been conducted in May-July 2021. The waters in question are the coastal waters of the southern part of Makassar (JB) and the coastal waters of Takalar (coastal waters beba = BB, Boddia = BG, and Sanrobone = SB). The waters are waters located on the western coast of the southern part of South Sulawesi. Enumeration of HABs is performed on samples of water that has been filtered using net plankton. The results showed that as many as 10 potential genera of HABs have been found. The genera in question are Bacteriastrum, Chaetoceros, Nitzschia, and Pseudo-nitzchia of the Bacillariophyceae group, and Ceratium, Dinophysis, Gymnodinium, Peridinium, Prorocentrum, and Protoperidinium of the Dynophycea group. From the results of the proportion test, potentially HABs were found to be lower at about 30.13% when compared to the non-HABs phytoplankton group of about 69.87% based on spatial, and 30.57% versus 69.43% based on temporal.

Abstract

Changes in nutrient concentrations can be caused by anthropogenic activities in coastal and marine waters. This affects the abundance of phytoplankton. The waters experiencing it are the waters of Kassikebo Pangkep, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. For this reason, research has been carried out to analyze the abundance and structure of phytoplankton communities in these waters, from January to July 2022. To identify phytoplankton, 100 L of seawater samples were filtered, which were taken at each station. The results of that water filter, identified in the laboratory. The results showed that the classes of phytoplankton found were Bacillariophyceae and Cyanophyceae. Species found such as Skeletonema and Detonula. The results of One-way ANOVA showed that phytoplankton abundance was not significantly different between observation stations (p>0.05). Changes in phytoplankton abundance are caused by pH.
