Abstract

(Feeding agricultural crop residues (groundnut straw, corn straw, sugarcane straw) to the pH evolution, N-NH3 and VFA in the cow rumen)ABSTRACT. The goal of this study is to evaluate the condition of fermentation in the rumen of cows by administration of 3 types of feed fiber agricultural crop residues (Groundnut Straw (GS), Corn Straw (CS) and Sugarcane Tops (ST)). Single feeding wascarried out at 2 Holstein Friesian Crossbred (HFC) cows with the age of 4-5 by fistula rumen. This study was conducted 20 days and with a 14-dayadaptation period. At the end of the adaptation period, rumen fluid was collected to measure pH, N-NH3and VFA based on feed treatment percow.Collection of rumen fluid was simultanous conducted for 24 hours at 27 time points decision. The results of the experiment showed that the level of pH for GS, CS and ST was 7.02 + 0.29; 6.54 + 0.16 and 6.54 + 0.14 respectively. The level of N-NH3 was 4.90 + 2.10 mg/100 ml of rumen fluid; 7.36 + 3.10 mg/100 ml of rumen fluid; 2.26 + 0.85 mg/100 ml of rumen fluidfor GS, CS and ST, respectively. Meanwile, the level of VFA was 57.44 + 12.75 mmol/l ml, 64.84 + 10.82 mmol/l and 44.13 + 6.66 mmol/l ml of rumen fluid, respectively.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Experiment were conducted to evaluate fermentation characteristics (pH, NH3, VFA), On degration in sacco degration neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent insoluble nitrogen (NDIN) of feed particle in the rumen. Two fistulated Friesien Holstein grade of each feeding used in this research. The ration in given similar with the sample to measured the degration in the rumen are corn stover (CST) and sugar cane top (SCT). Disappearance of the NDF, ADF, and NDIN in the rumen was calculated based on the incubation time and using an exponential negative modwl Y= a + b (1-e-ct) from Orskov and Mc Donald, (1979). Values of a,b and c fraction were used to calculate theoretical degradation DT=a+ ((b.c)/(c+Kp)) with the assumption  of flow of particle (Kp) is about 5 %/hour. The results on fermentation characteristics of feeding corn stover give ph about 6.54 ± 0.16; N-NH3 about 7.36 ± 3.10 mg/100 ml and VFA about 64.84 ± 10.82 mmol/1, whilst for feeding sugar can to give ph about 6.54 ± 0.14; NH3 about 2.62 ± 0.85 mg/100 ml and VFA about 44.13 ± 6.7 mmol/1. The microbe activity of the degration (DT) borh fed were not significantly different for NDF and ADF but for NDIN showed significantly different (P0.05) among feeds. This results show that there utilization of single feeds corn stover and sugar can top are not optimal for microbe activity, however the values degradation of fiber fraction were above 30%.

Abstract

(The differences of passage rate of feed particles from various crude fiber feed in dairy cattle rumen)ABSTRACT. The differences of passage rate particles is considerably influenced by different feed consumption relating to the nature of feed, types of animals, and physiological status of animals. The purpose of this experiments was to measure differences of passage rate feed particles at various crude fiber feed in cows’ rumen. This experiment used two cows of fistulated crossed breed Frisian Holland (PFH), non-productive with the age of 4-5 years. Feed observed in this experiments were peanut straw, corn straw and sugar cane straw and fed as single feed. Method applied to measure passage rate was chrome mordanse/chrome and NDF as marker introduced through fistulated rumen. All data were analyzed by using regression. The value of passage rate (Kp) was about 3,7% per hour for peanut straw, and 2,5% per hour for corn straw and sugar cane straw. Kp value of peanut straw was higher than that of corn straw and sugar cane straw. The highest value of Kp for peanut srtaw was due to better quality of peanut straw compared to corn straw and sugar cane straw in which peanut straw contained high level of protein and low level of Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF). The differences of chemical composition of crude fiber feed from peanut straw with high level of protein and low level of NDF compared to corn straw and sugar cane straw resulted in degradation of feed by microbial rumen was higher, low rumination. It caused higher passage rate of feed.

Abstract

(The evaluation of  nutritive value and In Vitro digestibility of oil palm fronds through fermentation by using  Aspergillus niger  with  different soluble carbohydrate sources) ABSTRACT. Oil palm frond (OPF) is one of potential sources of alternative feed, but has limited use due to high crude fiber and low crude protein contents. Fermentation is one of the methods widely applied to improve nutritive value of animal feed. The purpose of this research is to increase nutritive value of fermented oil palm fronds by adding different soluble carbohydrate source into fermentation media. The results of the experiments indicated that fermented oil palm fronds by Aspergillus niger had a significant effect (P0,05)  on the content of crude protein, crude fiber, and ash. Generally, fermented oil palm fronds with different soluble carbohydrate was able to increase the content of crude protein of oil palm fronds, but not optimal yet in reducing the crude fiber content of fermented substrate. However, the addition of rice bran on the fermentation medium showed the best results, characterized by increasing crude protein and decreasing crude fiber contents as well as improved dry matter and organic matter digestibility, reflected in high concentration of VFA.

Abstract

The proximate analysis of ammoniated rice straw added with rumen contentABSTRACT. A study about proximate analysis on ammoniated rice straw that added with rumen content was conducted at Agricultural Faculty, Syiah Kuala University. Field research was done at Experimental Farm Animal Husbandry Department, followed by proximate analysis done in the Animal Feed Laboratory. Factorial completely randomizes design with four replications was applied in this research. Storage time (4 Level) was the first factor analyzed, and the second one was the rumen content level (4 level). Analysis of variance was used to determine the differences among treatments. When it occurred, it followed by working on the Duncan Multiple Test to find the difference of each treatment. Data record were taken from the percentages of dry matter, crude fiber, crude protein, crude lipid, and ash. Rice straw and rumen content were analyzed before treatments were applied. The study result indicated that the storage times of ammoniated rice straw that were given rumen content decreased the percentage of crude fiber and dry matter in highly significant different (P0.01). On the other hand, the percentage of ash and crude protein were increased also in highly significant difference (P0.01). Meanwhile, the percentage of crude lipid due to both storage time and rumen content added factors showed highly significant different (P0.01). The storage time up to fourth week, and adding of 25 % rumen content to ammoniated rice straw, can increase it nutritive value. It was concluded that generally the quality of product resulted from this research was very good. Therefore it is acceptable to provide to animals.

Abstract

(Nutritive value of  dadih added with yeast of dadih origin)ABSTRACT. Dadih is traditionally fermented buffalo milk product which is along with lactic acid bacteria (LAB), a diversity of yeast species involved in fermentation process. The existence of yeast in dadih gives positive contribution either in aroma or their role in securing a good product. There were three different dadih origin yeasts involved in this experiment  (Candida curiosa, Brettanomyces custersii and Kluyveromyces lactis.) The objective of this research is   to study more about growth and yeasts role  on dadih fermentation in order to find positive value of yeast to keep  nutritive value of dadih. Completely Randomized Designed used with four treatments. The treatments given was percentage of combined yeast culture which were P0 (buffalo milk + LAB), P1 (buffalo milk + LAB + 0,5% yeast culture), P2 (buffalo milk + LAB + 1,0% yeast culture), and P3 (buffalo milk + LAB + 1,5% yeast culture), by seven replication. The difference effect between treatment was tested by using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. The Results showed that addition of yeast culture in dadih effect the pH, total of microorganism, degree of  lactic acid, protein and dadih fat significantly. Overall dadih  added with 1% yeast culture (P2) increase 14% degree of protein and decrease 2,7% degree of dadih fat.
