Abstract

Integral is one of major topics in Calculus course. Many university students fail in calculus course because their understanding on the concept of Integral especially in understanding definition of integral is low. This situation encourages us to design a calculus lesson to build students understanding on Integral especially integral definition by using Realistic Mathematics Education as an approach. For that, we try to design a series of instructional activities starting from introducing sigma to definition of Integral in order to know students difficulties in understanding this topic. Some first-year university students in Universitas Negeri Padang are chosen to test our Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) in our preliminary research. The result is students had difficulties in connecting the sigma, area and definition of integral. This happens because the students did not see that the activities that have been designed as a whole that cannot be separated. Therefore, it is recommended to design a series of instructional activities which is focus on connecting sigma, area and definition of integral.

Abstract

Industrial revolution 4.0 in which digital technology being more integrated in all aspects of human life will demand the new reform of education world. Not only can it affect the curriculum being taught, but it will also lead to the changes of the methods and approaches in conducting the lesson. One of the changes is the use of digital learning. Universitas Negeri Padang has regulation of conducting lesson through e-learning platform proportionally for all courses, including the course of Ordinary Differential Equation. Ordinary Differential Equation is a mandatory course that should be taken by mathematics department?s students. In order to support students to develop their under standing about the concept and its application while using digital learning method, the researchers develop some tutorial video as supplementary media. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the practicality of the tutorial video. This is a descriptive research where the data were collected using closed questionnaire. The respondents were 39 mathematics students of Universitas Negeri Padang who joined Ordinary Differential Equation Course in the semester of January-June 2020. The result indicates that the video tutorials used in the course are in the category of very practice with the score percentage 86,6%.

Abstract

Based on observations and interviews with several mathematics teachers of Agam west region, the teacher's lack of knowledge about non-routine materials and problems in mathematical olympiad. Teachers rarely attend the olympic training so that teachers do not know much about non-routine questions, techniques to solve the problem. Based on these observations and the facts there is and so the importance of making the strengthening of mathematics material for teachers. The purpose of this article is to provide the strengthening of mathematics olympiad material so that teachers can improve their professional development, especially in making and solving the olympic problem in teachers of SMP MGMP west Agam District. Based on the evaluation it can be seen that generally the participants of community service in general have sufficiently understood the material in designing the problem and how to solve the existing problems in the Olympics in order to improve the quality of OSN participants from west Agam District. This success is shown by the teacher is able to design and make problems and solve problems related to mathematics olympiad.

Abstract

School atmosphere in pandemic era mostly different with the normal one. An alternative to ensure learning process done by using online learning. But many teacher was not familiar with this type of learning approach. It is an extraneous because teacher never used it before. By workshop supported by devotee, teachers design an alternative. Some free software discuss during socialization, they are edmodo for moving offline class into virtual class, wonderful filmora for creating and editing video, quizzes and kahoot for quiz. The workshop is categorized success, based on teachers' respon which is collected using open questionnaire in every meetings.

Abstract

The low learning outcomes and student’s difficulties in understanding calculus courses, espe-cially integral topic, encourage us as researcher to design a calculus lesson for first year students by using realistic mathematical approach (Realistic Mathematics Education). For that we try to design a series of instructional activities starting from understanding integral as an anti derivative. The in-structional activity is designed and developed based on the learning process that occurs in the class-room by involving 30 first year students in FMIPA UNP. The classroom learning compared with our Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT). The results of teaching experiment show that students' un-derstanding of derivative plays important role in understanding the integrals, in general students have difficulty in communicating their ideas in determining the anti-derivative of a function. Through class-room discussions students can get ideas and discuss it in determining the anti-derivative of a function. Based on these results it is recommended to conduct classroom discussions to build students' under-standing in studying calculus especially integral as an anti derived.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mathematical reasoning abilities of students in the mathematics education study program in the secondary school mathematics curriculum review course. This research was conducted by giving quiz questions in the form of descriptions to a class of students who were then analyzed the answers. The results of the student's answer analysis show that the students' mathematical reasoning ability is still low. The low level of students' mathematical reasoning skills in general lies in the ability of students to analyze problems, make conjectures, determine relationships between variables, and identify links between processes or concepts in a given case. So that many answers from students are not logical and wrong in concluding.

Abstract

Face  recognition  is  a  biometric  technology  that  is  widely  used  in  the  era  of  the  industrial revolution 4.0 such as smart home, security and presence. In the application of face recognition, a method is needed that can perform facial recognition quickly andwith a high level of accuracy. This study aims to determine  the  level  of  accuracy  and  computation  time  of  the  Haar  Cascade  Classifier  Algorithm  and Convolutional Neural Network in Face Recognition with the mechine learning method. Determining the level ofaccuracy is done by calculating the amount of facial data that can be recognized from the overall face  data.  Calculating  the  computational  time  is  done  by  calculating  the  time  required  during  the  facial recognition  process  by  the  computational  process.  The  process  of  determining  the  level  and  time  of computing  is  carried  out  by  the  python  computing  program  using  the  numpy  and  tensorflow  libraries. Based  on  the  analysis  carried  out  by  the  face  detection  process  using  the  Haar  Cascade  Algorithm  and Convolutional  Neural  Network,  the  program  accuracy  is 98.84% and  the  average  time  needed  to recognize faces is 0.05s

Abstract

Abstract– Queuing is one of the problems that is often faced by public services, as happened at the BNI Sub-Branch Office Air Tawar. It is due to the large number of customers who come to get services. This paper discusses the resolution of the problem faced by obtaining a queuing model that is applied to bank tellers. Data collection is carried out for 5 days (Monday to Friday, at 09.00 - 12.00 Western Indonesian Time) and is done through interviews and direct observations at the teller section of the BNI Sub-Branch Office Air Tawar. Based on the results of the analysis by measuring the performance of the queuing system, it is found that the model applied is .The arrival time of the customer is Poisson distribution and the time of service to the costumer is exponential distribution. The general discipline used is first in first out (FIFO). The basic queuing model is the Multiple Channel Queuing System.Keywords– Queue Theory, Multiple Channel Queuing System.

Abstract

Desire to maximize economic growth in the Padang City, so it need to know the minimum estimate of inflation, that matter is done so that can anticipate the value of inflation outside the desired rate. This research was conducted to obtain forecasting inflation rates in the Padang City using the Backpropagation method. The data of this research is secondary data. Data obtained through the West Sumatra BPS website about inflation of Padang City in January 2013-December 2019. The results of research obtained a forecasting inflation rates in the Padang City with MSE value is 0.010689.
