Abstract

Seaweed is one of the strategic commodities with the highest production volume in Indonesian aqua culture commodities. According to The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, production volume of seaweed had grown at 18,18 percents in 2010.  For the export markets, the volume and the value of this commodity was also increase at 54,87 percents. The differences between the seaweed’s price at its sea farm and the seaweed’s price at export markets indicate a high margin in the marketing system of seaweed.  South Kuta District is one of the seaweed farming center that located in Badung Region, Bali Province. This research is used to analyze the marketing system and the efficiency of seaweed marketing system in South Kuta District. The respondents in this research are all of seaweed farmers and institutional marketing systems which involved in the distribution, such as: assemblers, agent middlemen and exporters. The marketing margin approach, the farmer’s share approach and the ratio of benefit and marketing cost approach are used to measure the efficiency of marketing system. The participation of farmer groups affects the price of seaweed and supports the quality control of standardization for export markets. The recommendation of this research is to increase the efficiency of seaweed marketing system by decreasing the water content of seaweed.

Market structure tendency is oligopsony, where the wholesalers influence price. The margin distribution among the three channels are differs. Vertical market integration is strong in the short and long run, but only on wholesaler level. Corn (Zea mays L.) is a potential agribusiness commodity in meeting food needs. In the national economy, corn is the second largest contributor after rice in the food subsector. One potential area for corn production is Kupang Regency which has a lot of marginal lands (dry land). This study aims to determine the factors that influence the production and technical efficiency of corn farming in Kupang Regency. This study, using the Cobb-Douglas production function method, is a functional form of the corn production function in the study area and the Stochastic Frontier method is estimated using the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) and Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) methods. The results showed that all the variables in the significant model were soil, seeds, Urea, KCL, SP36, pesticides and had signs that matched expectations.
