Abstract

Social media use in learning English offers unlimited benefits for English learners as it allows collaboration, communication, and resource sharing among its users. However, there has been little information on EFL student teachers’ lived experiences of using social media for learning English, especially in Islamic University in Indonesia. The aim of this study was to delve EFL student teachers‘ perceived experiences of using social media for learning English. This study employed qualitative inquiry, especially phenomenology. There were 10 pre-service EFL student teachers who voluntarily became participants of the study which were recruited by using purposive sampling. Data collection used interview and documentation. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively with several steps, namely preparing and organizing the data for analysis, exploring and coding the data, building description and themes, representing and reporting qualitative findings, interpreting the findings, and validating the accuracy of the findings. The findings showed that students employed some ways of learning English through social media. This study also provides some implications for future research, students, and educators.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to describe culture values which are contained inthree folklores from South Sumatera and its functions as a media to introduceIndonesian culture to international world. This research is a library research. Thedata were gathered by using descriptive method and qualitative approach. As it iswell known, Indonesia has a lot of folklores from 35 provinces as preciousIndonesian wealth, one of them is South Sumatera Province. There are threefolklores from South Sumatera; Legend of Kemaro Island, Legend of Bidar BoatsCompetition, and Semesat and Semesit. Indonesian folklores in English have role tointroduce Indonesian terms, to describe Indonesian culture, and to promoteIndonesian places. By reading the English version of the folklores on this website,people from all over the world can comprehend the stories and its culture values.

Abstract

DEVELOPMENT OF AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT DEVELOPMENT IN LITERATURE LEARNING: ASSISTANCE FOR INDONESIAN LANGUAGE TEACHERS IN SMP, SMA AND SMK IN PAGARALAM CITY. Evaluation is an important part of learning activities. Therefore, the Indonesian Language teacher must have sufficient competence regarding the implementation of the evaluation. In the 2013 Curriculum (K-13) there is one type of assessment that must be carried out, namely authentic assessment. The Indonesian language teachers must have sufficient ability about this, especially to assess the process and results of literature learning. Most of the Indonesian language teachers in Pagaralam City did not understand well about authentic assessment in literature learning. This is based on preliminary surveys conducted by the team as well as from letters given through Indonesian language teachers’ club (MGMP). Mentoring and guidance are conducted to them including workshops on developing authentic assessment rubriks and observation sheets. A total of 11 junior high schools, senior high school, and vocational school teachers in Pagaralam City participated in this activity. The method used was the delivery of information, discussion, and workshops. A test is conducted in the form of self-reflection about aspects of authentic assessment in literary learning at the beginning and end of the activity. The result showed that there is an increase in the ability of participants about authentic assessment in literature learning before and after the activity with an N-gain of 0.57, which means medium.
