Abstract

Background : Tooth extraction and incision are procedures that are often performed in dentistry that cause injury and damage to oral tissues. Injuries to the oral tissue must be treated immediately so as not to interfere with the stomatognathic system. Pegagan (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) is one of the medicinal plants used to accelerate wound healing. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of giving extract pegagan gel on the oral mucosal wounds of mice (Mus musculus) in various concentrations on the number of fibroblast cells. Methods : The research method used experimental post test only control group design. Data analysis used One Way Anova test and Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The experimental used were 24 male mice aged 6-8 weeks weighing 20-25 grams and healthy, divided into 4 (four) groups. The extraction wounds were smeared with 5%, 10%,15% concentration of pegagan extract gel and the placebo was smeared for 1 minute and done twice a day. Experimental animals were decapitated on day 5 without pain and continued with the stage of making microscopic preparations of tissue taken and fixed with buffer formalin 10% for a maximum of 24 hours. Results : The results showed that the average number of fibroblasts in the administration of extract pegagan gel was 15% with 400 cells, 10% was 291 cells, 5% was 262 cells and the average CMC Na gel group was 74 cells. Then continued with the One Way Anova test and the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test and results showed the average number of fibroblast cells in the four groups after being given treatment was significantly different with a significant level (ρ) < 0.05 and followed by a post hoc test, it is known that the gel extract pegagan 5%, 10%, and 15% can increase the number of fibroblast cells. Conclusion : Extract pegagan gel 15% more increased the number of fibroblast cells than extract pegangan gel10% and 5%.

Abstract

Tooth extraction though always not cause problems, but can cause some complications, one of which is endocarditis infection. The infection is caused by Staphylococcus aureus that causes abnormalities of the heart valves. The use of herbal ingredients to be an alternative to antibacterial bacteria as a result of increased resistance to antibiotics. Mahkota Dewa fruit (Phaleria macrocarpa) was selected as an antibacterial because it is active substances contains such as alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, and polyphenols. The purpose of this study was to determine the effective concentration of the extract Mahkota Dewa fruit as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus that can be made of a product in the form of a gel that can be applied to a tooth extraction wound to prevent endocarditis infection. The study is in vitro an experimental laboratory approaches Post test Only Control Group Design. Samples are distinguished by the concentration differences of the Mahkota Dewa fruit extract are 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and 100%. The results showed that the Mahkota Dewa fruit extract concentration of 70% effective as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus. The effectiveness of the extract Phaleria influenced by the ability of the active substance content of flavonoids lysis of bacterial cells.

Abstract

One of the complications that can occur after tooth extraction is an infection at the extraction site. Staphylococcus aureus is of the bacterias that plays a significant role in causing infection. Eugenol is an active substance of clove oil and pulperyl, where eugenol has antibacterial properties. The aim of the research is to compare the effectivity between clove oil and pulperyl in inhibiting the accumulation of Staphylococcus aureus. The research used in vitro laboratory experimental method by comparing the inhibition rate of clove oil 5% and pulperyl 5% along with a negative control of ethanol against Staphylococcus aureus in form of clear zone measured with a caliper. The medium of culture used was Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA). The result shows that the Pulperyl 5% has an average inhibition zone of 12 mm which is more effective compared to clove oil 5% which has an average inhibition zone 10 mm in inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus. The test result showed statistically significant results (ANOVA test = 0.001 with p<0.05). Pulperyl and clove oil contain eugenol that may damaged protein membrane and inhibit bacterial growth. The conclusion is that Pulperyl 5% and clove oil 5% can inhibit accumulation of Staphylococcus aureus, in which Pulperyl® 5% has higher inhibition rate compared to clove oil 5%.

Abstract

One of the complications that can occur after tooth extraction is dry socket. Bacterial infection is one among the various causes of dry socket where Streptococcus mutans become one of the bacteria that have a role as a cause. Eugenol is the main active substancethat owned by clove oil with eugenol as antibacterial properties. The research pyupose was to determine the effectiveness of clove oil in inhibiting the accumulation of Streptococcus mutans bacteria in the dry socket. The research method used to see the inhibition of clove oil 5% also the negative control of ethanol to Streptococcus mutans bacteria in the form of clear zone using a vernier caliper. The research result shows that the clove oil 5% effective in inhibiting Streptococcus mutans, with the average inhibition zone of clove oil 5% was 15 mm. Statistical test result showed significant results (ANOVA test = 0.001 with ρ <0.05). The conclusion that can be obtained from this study was clove oil 5%may inhibit the accumulation of Streptococcus mutans bacteria in the dry socket.

Abstract

Introduction: diabetes mellitus is a disorder of carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism which is characterized by an increase in blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) due to secretion and insulin, or decreased insulin action. The amount of costs incurred and the difficulty of handling diabetic wounds, it is necessary to find alternative medicines that are cheaper, one of them is herbal plants. One of the herbs is binahong leaf (Anredera cordifolia). Binahong leaves have active compounds alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, and terpenoids. Objectives: the purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of binahong leaf extract gel against decreasing the number of macrophage cells in incision wound healing of alloxan induced mice (Mus musculus). Materials and methods: 24 mice induced with alloxan were then divided into four groups, such as application of binahong leaf extract gel concentration of 25%, 30%, 35% and application of CMC-Na 2% gel as a control group. All treatment given within 4 days. The data obtained were analyzed using One Way Anova and continued with LSD (Least Significant Differences). Result: from the results of this study indicate that the treatment of binahong leaf extract gel concentrations of 25%, 30%, and 35% effectively decreased the number of macrophage cells compared to the control group. Conclusion: this study concluded that binahong leaf extract gel concentration of 35% was more effective on decreasing the number of macrophage cells in incision wound healing of alloxan induced mice.
