Abstract

There are many oral surgery procedure that uses a variety of flap. The flap is opening of mucosa and gingival separated from the underlying tissue to expand the field of view and access to the bone and root surface. There are several designs of fullthickness flap, partial, high semilunar flap, flap mid-level and the envelope flap. Each design of the flap has the thickness flap position advantages and disadvantages that can be used in a wide variety of surgical procedures. Flap design is determined by the operator, and also depends on the purpose of the surgery. The entrance to the bone and root surface tissue, as well as the final position of the flap must be considered in designing the flap. By knowing the technique of flap design will help to minimize surgical trauma that would happen later.

Abstract

One of the complications that can occur after tooth extraction is an infection at the extraction site. Staphylococcus aureus is of the bacterias that plays a significant role in causing infection. Eugenol is an active substance of clove oil and pulperyl, where eugenol has antibacterial properties. The aim of the research is to compare the effectivity between clove oil and pulperyl in inhibiting the accumulation of Staphylococcus aureus. The research used in vitro laboratory experimental method by comparing the inhibition rate of clove oil 5% and pulperyl 5% along with a negative control of ethanol against Staphylococcus aureus in form of clear zone measured with a caliper. The medium of culture used was Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA). The result shows that the Pulperyl 5% has an average inhibition zone of 12 mm which is more effective compared to clove oil 5% which has an average inhibition zone 10 mm in inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus. The test result showed statistically significant results (ANOVA test = 0.001 with p<0.05). Pulperyl and clove oil contain eugenol that may damaged protein membrane and inhibit bacterial growth. The conclusion is that Pulperyl 5% and clove oil 5% can inhibit accumulation of Staphylococcus aureus, in which Pulperyl® 5% has higher inhibition rate compared to clove oil 5%.

Abstract

The resorption of alveolar bone in the edentulous area can lead to reduced prosthetic support and loss of periodontal tissue attachment, and reduce aesthetics. Dental implants are an alternative treatment option for patients with partial or complete loss of teeth. Not all dental implants provide good results, especially in relation to bone contact with implants. One way to overcome alveolar bone deficiency is implant placement with bone grafting procedures. Bone Tissue Engineering (BTE) can be performed in the edentulous area that experiences alveolar bone resorption, to replace lost bone (osteoconduction) and stimulate new bone formation (osteoinduction), so that the denture in the edentulous area is better with adequate support, and more aesthetics. Osteon (Biphasic Calcium Phosphate) is one of the unique products made from marine coral, which contains Calcium Carbonate in the structure of Calcium Hydroxyapatite. The advantage of this material is that the structure of the sea coral is similar to trabecular bone. Biphasic Calcium Phosphate has several disadvantages, namely slow degradation rates, weak resistance to fractures, high crystallinity, and has limitations in stimulating the regeneration of bone cells; and coated with collagen, so that it can enable immunological / allergic reactions in patients who have hypersensitivity.

Abstract

Surgical with an incision or tissue incision process can cause injury or tissue damage to the oral cavity, especially the gingiva. Wound healing can last a long time, this condition can increase the potential for complications such as infections and less blood supply. Garlic contains several active substances including flavonoids, tannins, phenols and alkaloids, and organosulfur compounds namely allicin. The content is believed to stimulate macrophage cells and help the work of macrophages in cleaning the wound area so that it accelerates into the phase of proliferation and wound healing. The research method was experimental laboratory research with a post-test design group. The results showed that the average number of macrophage cells in the control group CMC-Na 2% 97,50 cells, mean group of 40% garlic extract gel was 58,83 cells, mean group of 50% garlic extract gel was 18,00 cells, mean 60% garlic extract gel group was 7,83 cells. The results showed that there are significant differences (ρ <0,05) in the four study groups. Garlic extract gel concentration of 60% was more effective in reducing the number of macrophage cells in guinea pig gingival incision because of the percentage of active content.

Abstract

Background : Tooth extraction and incision are procedures that are often performed in dentistry that cause injury and damage to oral tissues. Injuries to the oral tissue must be treated immediately so as not to interfere with the stomatognathic system. Pegagan (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) is one of the medicinal plants used to accelerate wound healing. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of giving extract pegagan gel on the oral mucosal wounds of mice (Mus musculus) in various concentrations on the number of fibroblast cells. Methods : The research method used experimental post test only control group design. Data analysis used One Way Anova test and Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The experimental used were 24 male mice aged 6-8 weeks weighing 20-25 grams and healthy, divided into 4 (four) groups. The extraction wounds were smeared with 5%, 10%,15% concentration of pegagan extract gel and the placebo was smeared for 1 minute and done twice a day. Experimental animals were decapitated on day 5 without pain and continued with the stage of making microscopic preparations of tissue taken and fixed with buffer formalin 10% for a maximum of 24 hours. Results : The results showed that the average number of fibroblasts in the administration of extract pegagan gel was 15% with 400 cells, 10% was 291 cells, 5% was 262 cells and the average CMC Na gel group was 74 cells. Then continued with the One Way Anova test and the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test and results showed the average number of fibroblast cells in the four groups after being given treatment was significantly different with a significant level (ρ) < 0.05 and followed by a post hoc test, it is known that the gel extract pegagan 5%, 10%, and 15% can increase the number of fibroblast cells. Conclusion : Extract pegagan gel 15% more increased the number of fibroblast cells than extract pegangan gel10% and 5%.
