Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: While some researches have claimed that Invisalign® is successful in creating meaningful tooth movement, there is still no comprehensive literature review that summarizes them using one valid and reliable parameter. American Board of Orthodontics-Model Grading System (ABO-MGS) is an objective measurement for the success of orthodontic treatment. This systematic review is determined to provide scientific pieces of evidence to prove the truth of the claim using ABO-MGS. Method: English-based health sciences journal databases were searched using "Invisalign" and "Model Grading System". The databases included in this study were Pubmed, Ebscohost, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and MEDLINE. Inclusion criteria were clinical cross-sectional, cohort, or case-control study using human subjects who finished Invisalign treatment. Two independent authors summarized the data from the obtained articles using predefined data fields and discussed the data result together. Result: Out of 60 studies found during the identification process, only 6 studies were included in the qualitative analysis. Only one of them studied the efficacy of Invisalign® by using ABO-MGS to measure the pre- and post-treatment model. Invisalign® mostly successful in creating change for alignment, overjet, and interproximal contact. Other categories were not that successful to be treated with Invisalign. Conclusion: Invisalign®‘s success is mostly pursued by correcting the malocclusion in the anterior region. Given the scarce amount of reliable evidence available, it is suggested that more studies are required to be able to draw a further conclusion.

Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Malocclusion will lead to psychological and social (psychosocial) disorders due to unaesthetic dental arrangement. These disorders can measure the need and success of treatment from the patient’s point of view more accurately. The psychosocial impact of malocclusion can be measured using the Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetic Questionnaire (PIDAQ). This study was aimed to translate and validate the PIDAQ questionnaire in Indonesian. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed with the procedure adapted from guidelines developed by the International Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD) Consortium Network. The first stage was the linguistic stage, which was the Indonesian translation of PIDAQ by Klages et al., evaluation of the Indonesian translation, retranslation of the Indonesian version of PIDAQ to the original version, and final evaluation of the Indonesian to English translation of PIDAQ. The second stage was the stage of validity and reliability testing. The Indonesian version of PIDAQ was given to 32 respondents to test its validity and reliability. The third stage was the analysis stage. The validity and reliability tests results were analysed using Pearson Product Moment, Intra-Class Correlation (ICC), Cronbach Alpha, and factor analysis according to Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) and Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity. Results: A valid and reliable Indonesian version of the PIDAQ questionnaire was able to be created based on the Pearson Product Moment, ICC, Cronbach Alpha, KMO factor analysis, and Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity results. The analysis values of the Indonesian version of the PIDAQ questionnaire were close to the original version’s values. The translation consisted of 23 statements divided into four dimensions. Conclusions: The Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetic Questionnaire measures the psychosocial impact of dental aesthetics on Indo-nesian subjects, and each item in the questionnaire is valid and reliable.

Abstract

Background. Breast cancer is one of the four types of cancer among women and is the most frequently diagnosed in most countries. Breast cancer occurs due to DNA damage and genetic mutations affected by exposure to estrogen, inheritance of damaged DNA, or pro-cancer genes such as BRCA1 and BRCA2. Therefore, a family history of ovarian cancer or breast cancer increases the risk of developing breast cancer. The embryo of the breast develops around the age of 6 weeks of pregnancy. Similar to breast development, fingerprint patterns also develop during the 6-13 weeks of pregnancy. Thus, the genetic message contained in the genome occurred during that period and was reflected in the dermatoglyphic pattern.Methods. The literature search was systematically used using PubMed, Cochran, Google scholar, and other Gray literature between 2010-2020. Of the 69 publications identified, 21 met the criteria and were included in the review. The review is carried out following the provisions of PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review).Results. This systematic review showed fairly consistent findings in breast cancer patients who tended to have more whorl fingerprint patterns and larger ATD angles. For radial loops, ulnar loops and arches were minor compared to the control group potential as an initial screening tool in at-risk groups.Conclusion. Long-term and follow-up studies with larger sample sizes in various ethnicities are needed to validate dermatoglyphics in anthropometric measurements as a promising marker of breast cancer.

Abstract

Introduction: Deep bite is a malocclusion in which the vertical overlap of the mandibular incisor exceeds 4 mm when the teeth are positioned in centric occlusion. Traumatic deep bite, a condition in which deep bite has caused traumatic occlusion, can exert pressure that increases inflammation and damage to the periodontal tissue. The prolonged pressure produces injury to the gingival surface and periodontal tissues of the opposing teeth. Objective: To determine the effect of deep bite on the periodontal status of anterior teeth. Methods: A cross-sectional analytic study of 44 subjects who were divided into two groups of 22. Subjects gave informed consent and underwent an examination of periodontal status for gingival recession, probing depth, and clinical attachment loss. Dental impressions were taken for the measurement of deep bite. Data were then analyzed using univariate and multivariate analysis. Result: There were significant differences between the normal and deep bite group for the presence and severity of gingival recession, probing depth, and clinical attachment loss (p <0.05). Conclusion: There is an association between deep bite and periodontal status (gingival recession, probing depth, and clinical attachment loss) of anterior teeth.
