Abstract

This article addresses Pancasila as a text of interfaith dialogue in Indonesian context. The plurality of Indonesian society bears religious uniqueness in social life together, while conflicts may take place between religious groups. Religious conflicts are caused by attitude of exclusivism, radicalism, fundamentalism of religions and political identity. Pancasila can hold the sense collectivity among Indonesian society to be united. This article employs Gadamer hermeneutic theory in viewing historical texts. History is not something that only happened in the past and is interrupted with the present contexts. The theory of global ethics-Hans Kung, also helps the importance of dialogue with the religious communities to create religious peace. The article concludes that plural and multicultural society must live together in a dialogue circle. Pancasila as the text of interfaith dialogue is always understood as dynamic, open and relevant in the development of religious society in Indonesia. As the national identity, Pancasila has more than one conception as the lighters and guide toward each dialogue strategy that has been undertaken. The values of Pancasilamaintain inclusive religious attitude, respect to human values, and become a solid foundation in maintaining the unity of religious people.

Abstract

This article discusses the identity of the church Pasamuwan Kristen (community members) of Gereja Kristen Jawa/Java Christian Church (GKJ) Margoyudan, Surakarta, Central Java. Pasamuan Kristen GKJ Margoyudan’s identity construction is based on two factors: internal identity and external identity. By employing documents/literature review and in-depth interviews, this research found that the construction of internal identities of Pasamuan Kristen GKJ Margoyudan was built from the long history of Zending Missionary’s role from the Netherlands. The Zending Missionary had delivered the first identity of GKJ Margoyudan as a church which has characteristic of Javanese fellowship but still following many agreements of European social identity, Javanese culture domination as the main identity, and the church building as community solidarity identity. From the external side, the support came from synod of GKJ as the center of evangelism and the government, especially Central Java government. Synod of GKJ and the government support the church community to preserve Javanese culture through Javanese songs, Javanese language, and other related culture activities. They also transformed the church building into a cultural heritage in order to assimilate it with the social identity. The research found a conclusion that stronger acceptance from others to GKJ Margoyudan is partly because of the social role of the church in education and health since long ago. GKJ Margoyudan is accepted in the wider community as an assimilationist identity.

Abstract

The establishment of Mamasa as a district adds diversity and escalation of conflict which often occur not only in the form of fights or physical clashes, but also of differences in perception. This situation is exacerbated by the governance of conflict which tends to use judicial or repressive approach. An approach that only pays attention to rules and punishments without trying to build sustainable peaceful relations in society. The research objective to be achieved in this paper is to describe and analyze the Mebulle Bai Ritual as a shared space in solving the social conflict of the Mamasa community. The implementation of the Mebulle Bai Ritual is a symbolic act intended to restore the relations of various parties in the conflict. Restoring relationships in conflict is aimed at resolving the conflict as well as all parties, such as family and society. This approach is based on a common understanding that conflict could break relation of the conflicting parties and contribute to destroy harmony in society. Therefore, recovery is a comprehensive process supported by the presence of various parties in building peace. The result achieved is the Mebulle Bai ritual which can be ruled as a shared space in resolving conflicts because they contain the values of justice, equality and humility. Each party is equally enforced, regardless of their religious, ethnic, cultural, racial and social status in society.

This article aims to see the mission of the Gereja Kristen Indonesia (GKI Peterongan) in the perspective of the fifth principle of Pancasila namely social justice for all Indonesian people. Social justice in the perspective of the fifth principle of Pancasila is political justice and economic justice. Equally the same is based on the constitution and the same sense in the economic field. The meaning of social justice is built on the basis of kinship and mutual cooperation and all for all. The method used in this study uses qualitative methods through the study of documents, interviews and observations. In this study it was found that GKI Peterongan aspires to realize social justice for all people but has not been reflected and implemented in existing programs. Abstract

This paper discusses the sakaiba ritual procession in Minahasa which is carried out every year by the Christian community to welcome the New Year. The research was conducted in Taratara village, Tomohon, North Sulawesi. This study focuses on the significance and meaning of the sakaiba ritual procession within the context of the hybridization of contemporary religious culture in Minahasa. By using the theoretical concepts of ritual and dramaturgy, as well as applying the descriptive qualitative methods, this research found that the sakaiba ritual procession is a liminal hinge that allows a peaceful encounter between the ancient Minahasa traditions and the Christian faith. This hinge promotes a contemporary Minahasa religious culture that is inclusive and transformative in the face of other cultural and religious elements present in their history and real life experiences.

Abstract

Abstract. This paper intended to provide a critical analysis of the efforts to contextualise the Gospel through the practice of rumengkom by Minahasa Christians. Eating together or rumengkom for the Minahasa community has a special meaning and is indirectly interpreted as a form of theological expression typical of the Minahasa community. As time goes by, the church gives a different meaning to the practice by understanding it as a form of contextualisation of the Gospel. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach in Yobel Uluindano Church of Minahasa (GMIM). The results of the research were then analysed with the lens of the anthropological approach model of contextual theology. The results of this study showed that the effort to contextualise the gospel by the church has obscured the theological value that already exist in the practice of rumengkom.
