Abstract

The objective of the study was to evaluate physiological condition of Bali cattle during estrus. Ninecattles were used in the research. The method of the research was descriptive analysis. The measurementof vaginal temperature was conducted by using digital thermometer and cytology of vaginal smear wasdone by using cotton bud swabbed on object glass. It was washed by methanol and was stained withGiemsa staining and was observed by microscope. The results indicated that vaginal temperature were38.39 ± 0.29 oC; 38.05 ± 0.15 oC; 37.4 ± 0.74 oC; 37.86 ± 0.3 oC at estrus, metestrus, diestrus, proestrusphase, respectively. On the basis of the cytology of vaginal smear, estrus phase had more superficialcornification and intermediate cells causing estrogen concentration increased. In conclusion, the profileof vaginal temperature showed that each kind of estrus cycle phase had characteristic within estrus. Thecytology of vaginal smear showed various types of cells preferences in different phase of estrus cycle.

Abstract

The objectives of this reserarch were to study the effect of semen washing and soybean lecithinlevel on the motility and viability of ram spermatozoa stored at 5⁰C. Semen was collected from threemature rams by artificial vagina. Semen was evaluated by macroscopic and microscopic. Semen wasdivided into ten tubes, the semen of first five tubes was unwashed (W0) and diluted with extender 0%,1%, 2%, 3% and 4% soybean lecithin (L0, L1, L2, L3 and L4). Semen of another five tubes werewashed (W1) then each diluted with similar extender levels. The diluted semen samples were stored at5⁰C and the sperm motility and viability were evaluated each day. The interaction of the semen washingand soybean lecithin levels were no significant differences (P>0.05) but the single factor of soybeanlecithin level was significant differeNces (P<0.05) and the single factor of semen washing were nosignificant differences (P>0.05) on progressive motility and viability of ram sperm.The best extenderwas 3% soybean lecithin (L3) with the percentage of ram sperm progressive motility was 63.18 ± 3.61%and viability was 71.76±2.32%.

Abstract

Crossing between cattle breeds is the one way to improve the genetic quality of cattle. Controlling crosses using genetic markers will speed up the process. The IGFBP-3 gene is a potential marker of selection due to its role in regulating growth and metabolism in cattle. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of genotype on birth size and birth weight using IBFBP-3 gene marker. A total of 32 cattle consisted of 10 Brahman Cross cattle, 14 cattle results of Brahman Cross cow crosses with Belgian Blue bull, and 8 cattle results of Brahman Cross cow crosses with Wagyu bull. Sequences of 563 bp, including the part intron 2, exon 3, and the part intron 3. Genotyping was done by sequencing method and PCR-RFLP method with the restriction enzyme PvuII. An SNP was identified at location g 3,930 (G>A). Two genotypes were observed, namely GA and GG. The genotype did not affect the performance of birth (body weight, body length, height at withers, heart girth) of the research sample. Birth traits are influenced by the cattle breed, it can be seen that Brahman Cross cattle have a body length that is bigger than the other crossbred.

Abstract

This research was aimed to determine the impact of balanced energy and protein supplementation with high rumen undegraded protein (HRUP) to milk production and quality in early lactating dairy cows. Twelve early lactating Friesian Holstein cows were divided into two groups (control and HRUP). Both control and HRUP group were fed on a basal diet (forage to concentrate ratio was 60:40; DM basis), with rumen undegraded protein (RUP) levels were 27.47% and 32.78% for control and HRUP, respectively. The experimental diets were given to animals twice daily, morning and afternoon. Water was given by ad libitum. The observed parameters were nutrient intake, quantity and quality of milk production . Data were examined using t-test. Results showed that feed intake, milk production and 4% FCM, milk fat and lactose concentrations, and milk solid non-fat and total solid concentrations were not differed significantly between control and HRUP groups.
