Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan matematis, yang terdiri atas kemampuan penalaran dan representasi matematis siswa SMP di Kabupaten Indramayu, Jawa Barat. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian survei dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa SMP kelas VIII di Kabupaten Indramayu tahun pelajaran 2016/2017. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 390 siswa. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah stratified random sampling.Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui teknik Tes. Teknik analisis data menggunakan statistika deskriptif melalui dua cara, yaitu estimasi titik dan estimasi interval rata-rata untuk menentukan kategori ketercapaian pada masing-masing kemampuan matematis siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan matematis siswa SMP di Kabupaten Indramayu berada pada kategori sedang. Secara lebih spesifik rata-rata skor pada kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa termasuk dalam kategori sedang. Begitu juga pada rata-rata skor kemampuan representasi matematis siswa berada pada kategori sedang. Exploration ability of mathematical reasoning and representation of junior high school students AbstractThis study aimed to describe the mathematical ability, which consists of the ability of mathematical reasoning and representation in junior high school students in Indramayu, West Java Province, Indonesia. This research was using survey method with quantitative approach. The population in this study were all grade VIII students in both state and private junior high schools in Indramayu district in academic year of 2016/2017 and 390 students selected as sample research. The sampling technique was stratified random sampling. Data collected using test technique. Technique data analysis used descriptive statistics through two ways, namely estimation point and the average of interval estimation to determine the category of achievement in each of the students' mathematical abilities.  The result showed that the mathematical ability of junior high school students in Indramayu district was in the medium category. More specifically the average score on students' mathematical reasoning abilities was included in the moderate category. Similarly, the average score of students' mathematical representation ability was in the medium category.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan perilaku siswa cerdas istimewa saat pem­belajaran pengayaan matematika menggunakan kalkulator. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII-A SMP Negeri di Kota Pasuruan yang terdiri dari 33 siswa. Subjek yang dipilih berasal dari kelas unggulan pada sekolah tersebut. Instrumen penelitian berupa lembar observasi dan kuesioner. Analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian mengung­kapkan bahwa siswa masih menggunakan perhitungan manual daripada menggunakan kal­kulator ketika mengerjakan tes awal. Ketika siswa mengerjakan beberapa soal pada lembar kegiatan peserta didik, siswa antusias untuk memahami petunjuk pengoperasian kalkulator, meskipun beberapa siswa masih mengajukan pertanyaan kepada guru. Kasus lainnya, siswa terlihat kebingungan saat hasil yang muncul di kalkulatornya berbeda dengan hasil teman-temannya, sebagian besar siswa baru mengetahui fungsi lain dari tombol-tombol kalkulator. Berbagai tantangan dan potensi pemanfaatan kalkulator dalam pembelajaran pengayaan mate­matika didiskusikan dalam artikel ini. The behavior of special intelligent students when learning mathematics enrichment using a calculatorAbstractThis study aimed to describe the behavior of special intelligent students when learning mathe­matics enrichment using a calculator. This research was descriptive research with quantitative and qualitative approaches. The subjects were eighth-grade students of a public junior high school in Pasuruan City, Indonesia, which consisted of 33 students. The selected subjects came from the superior class at the school. The instruments were observation sheets and question­naires. Data analysis used quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis. The study results revealed that students still used manual calculations instead of using a calculator when doing the initial test. When students solved some problems on the worksheet, students were enthusiastic about understanding the instructions for operating the calculator, although some students still asked questions to the teacher. In another case, students looked confused when the results that appeared on their calculators were different from the results of their friends; most of the students just found out about other functions of the calculator buttons. Various challenges and potential use of calculators in mathematics enrichment learning were discussed.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan keefektifan dan perbandingan keefektifan dari pendekatan open-ended dan problem solving pada pembelajaran bangun ruang sisi datar ditinjau dari pencapaian kemampuan penalaran, pemecahan masalah, dan komunikasi matematis. Penelitian ini adalah quasi experiment dengan desain pretest-posttest nonequivalent group design. Populasi penelitian mencakup seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Pandak, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Selanjutnya dengan memilih secara acak dari keseluruhan kelas tersebut, terpilih kelas VIII F dan VIII G sebagai sampel penelitian. Untuk menguji keefektifan masing-masing pendekatan pembelajaran digunakan uji one sample t-test. Untuk menguji bahwa pendekatan open-ended lebih efektif daripada pendekatan problem solving, data dianalisis menggunakan MANOVA yang dilanjutkan dengan uji t-Bonferroni. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua pendekatan pembelajaran efektif ditinjau dari masing-masing aspek, dan pendekatan open-ended lebih efektif daripada pendekatan problem solving pada pembelajaran bangun ruang sisi datar ditinjau dari pencapaian kemampuan penalaran, pemecahan masalah, dan komunikasi matematis di SMP.Kata Kunci: pendekatan open-ended, pendekatan problem solving, kemampuan penalaran, kemampuan pemecahan masalah, kemampuan komunikasi matematis The Effectiveness of Open-Ended and Problem Solving Approach in Matter of Flat Side Construct in Junior High SchoolAbstractThe aims of this research are to decide the effectiveness and the comparison of the effectiveness of open-ended and problem solving approach toward matter of flat side construct lesson viewed from achivement of reasoning ability, problem solving and mathematics communication. This study was a quasi experimental study using the pretest-posttest nonequivalent group design. The research population covered the entire VIII class students’ of SMP Negeri 1 Pandak, Bantul, Yogyakarta. From the population, classes of VIII F and VIII G were selected randomly as the research sample. To test the effectiveness of open-ended and problem solving approach, the one sample t-test was carried out. Then, to test the more effectiveness of the open-ended approach than the problem solving approach, the MANOVA was carried out and then continued by the t-Bonferroni test. The results of the study show that open-ended and problem solving approaches are effective and open-ended approach is more effective than  problem solving approach in matter of flat side construct’ viewed from achivement of reasoning ability, problem solving, and mathematics communication in junior high school.Keywords: the open-ended approach, the problem solving approach, reasoning ability, problem solv-ing ability, mathematics communication ability
