Abstract

Abstrak Pemanfaatan biogas merupakan salah satu pengembangan bahan bakar alternatif sebagai subsitusi bahan bakar fosil yang cadangannya semakin berkurang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui performansi dari mesin genset otto stasioner yang menggunakan bahan bakar biogas dari limbah cair kelapa sawit (POME). Pengujian dilakukan dengan melakukan variasi terhadap beban mesin berupa bola lampu. Modifikasi dilakukan terhadap komponen karburator agar mesin otto yang diuji dapat menggunakan bahan bakar biogas. Dari hasil pengujian dan perhitungan diperoleh bahwa terdapat penurunan daya dan efisiensi termal serta peningkatan konsumsi bahan bakar spesifik saat mesin menggunakan bahan bakar biogas berkisar 7% - 9%. Namun untuk emisi gas buang yang dihasilkan terjadi pengurangan kadar CO yang cukup signifikan saat mesin otto menggunakan bahan bakar biogas POME. Kata kunci: biogas dari POME, kinerja mesin Abstract The utilization of biogas is one of the development of alternative fuels as a substitute for fossil fuel which reserves dwindling. This study aims to determine the performance of the stationary otto engine by using biogas from palm oil mill effluent (POME). The experiments were carried out with the variation of the load on the engine in the form of a light bulb. Modifications was made to the carburteur component so that the otto engines can use biogas fuel. From the data experiments show that there was a drop in power and thermal efficiency as well as increased specific fuel consumption when the otto engine using biogas fuel ranges 7% - 9%. However, there was CO emission reduction significantly when otto engine using POME biogas fuel. Keywords: biogas from POME, engine performance

Abstract

National energy data note that Indonesia fossil energy potential consisting of petroleum, natural gas and coal can only last for 10 years, 31 years and 80 years from now if no new fossil energy reserves are found. It is necessary to save energy to anticipate these conditions. One of the efforts that have been done is saving the consumption of fuel oil that is used in the internal combustion engine. This research aims to increase the performance by reducing fuel consumption and exhaust emissions by using magnetic devices. The equipment of magnetic is placed on the intake manifold which is varied 10 cm, 20 cm, and 30 cm from the combustion chamber to determine the effect of installing a magnetic field on the performance of the Otto engine. Gas emission analyzer is placed on the exhaust gas section. Besides that, there were also variations in engine speed consisting of 2000 rpm, 2500 rpm, 3000 rpm, 3500 rpm, and 4000 rpm. Experimental data show that there is an increase in power and thermal efficiency and a decrease in specific fuel consumption when the engine uses magnetic devices ranging from 5.99-22.02%. The exhaust gas emissions produced by Otto engine also decreased for CO and HC thereabouts 6-20%.
