Abstract

Coastal waste will have an impact on ecology, economy, safety and human health. High amount of waste can reduce the efficiency of Final Disposal Sites, so that it requires a better waste management concept in Pangkal Pinang City. In this study, we will reveal public knowledge of the garbage composition  and compare the collection of the waste composition on Saturdays and Sundays and in the Pangkal Pinang Coastal Beach. Determination of public knowledge using a questionnaire with a Likert scale. The Instrument validity and reliability test used the product moment correlation and the Cronbach's alpha method, respectively. Both tests were analyzed using Microsoft Excel. Waste samples were obtained from 10 sampling points and classified according to the type and weight of the waste. Instrument shows valid results and reabelitation with high to very high categories. The community stated that the very frequent and frequently found waste compositions were cigarette butts, plant parts and plastic candy wrappers, snack plastic wrap, plastic dropper, asoy plastic, plastic bottles, paper, respectively. The total waste found on Saturdays tends to be higher compared to Sundays. The most  collected of waste composition is organic rubbish i.e plant part and inorganic rubbish, i.e glass, plastic candy packaging and snack packs and plastic bottles. Sampling points 2, 10 and 1 are the most common rubbish found on Saturdays and Sundays. In order to maintain the cleanliness and comfort of Pasir Padi Beach, the society must have a high awareness to maintain the cleanliness of the beach environment and a good waste management system to reduce landfill waste at the final disposal site. Abstract

The untreated liquid waste produced from the Tofu industry may pollute the water environment. Phytoremediation may be an alternative method to reduce the contaminant produced. For that reason, the study aimed to analyze the characteristic of tofu liquid waste and analyze the effectiveness of water hyacinth in improving tofu liquid waste quality (nitrate, pH, colour, odour) from the household-scale industry. This research used the 50 gram of water hyacinth for one litter of liquid waste in the experimental test of phytoremediation with three replication. The nitrate concentration, pH, colour and odour was analyzed before and after treatment (the day 5th, 10th and 15th). The result showed the initial characteristic of liquid waste was above the level 4 of water quality standard according to PP RI No.82 in the year 2001 (N 444 mg/l, pH 4,15, colour 1831 Pt-Co, with strong odour). The study proved that water hyacinth was potential to improve tofu liquid waste quality. Nitrate concentration decreases from initial value up to 94%, the value of pH became neutral in ranged of 7, and liquid waste became more transparent found with no strong odour after treatment. It concluded that water hyacinth has a high potential as phytoremediator. Further research should use the other design with other aquatic plant species to improve liquid waste of tofu in the household scale.

Abstract

Jelitik is located in Bangka regency and it categorized as an industrial area based on Regional Regulation, Bangka Regency Number 3 in 2005. The  Jelitik river channel and estuary received high sediment input and it become shallower due to anthropogenic activities in upstream, industrial activities and tin mining activities around the area. The potential for nutrient enrichment and increasing river estuary pollution can come from point sources such as industry or non-point sources from the Jelitik industrial area. Based on these problems, the purpose of this study was to analyze the trophic state of the Jelitik river estuary based on the trophic state index (TSI) and analyze the contamination status based on the Storet index method and CCME WQI. Six locations were determined by purposive sampling, while physical, chemical and biological parameters were analyzed in April and August 2021. Based on the location index, the six locations in the Jelitik river estuary area were still good/lightly polluted, while based on the CCME WQI, it was classified as good to fair. The research location can be categorized as oligotrophic based on TSI. The potential of quality and quantity degradation of the Jelitik estuary area requires an integrated effort and an effective and efficient strategy in overcoming the existing problems.
