Abstract

Red ginger is a beneficial rhizome used to treat sore throats, dry cough, colic, rheumatism, headache, and flatulence. This community service aims to provide knowledge about the benefits of red ginger for health and how to process red ginger to a worth to sell products. The knowledge about the benefits of red ginger for health presented directly and the processing of chew gummy demonstrated in front of the participants. The community service was carried out at the Senggigi Village Office by involving by involving cadre of Posyandu and PKK asparticipants. The participants are given a pre-test and post-test to determine the increase in participant understanding. The results showed an increase in post-test scores from pre-test values about the benefits of red ginger and its processing. Participants understand the benefits of red ginger for health and can process red ginger into chew gummy preparations.

Abstract

The ultraviolet radiation and skin water loss could damage the skin. Kemuning leaves (Murraya paniculata (L) Jack) as a source of anti-oxidants and Aloe vera leaves (Aloe vera Linn) can prevent this action. This study aims to formulate and evaluate lotion containing the Kemuning leaves and Aloe vera extract. The extract of Kemuning leaves was obtained by sonication using 70% ethanol solvent. Aloe vera juice was obtained by smoothing the aloe vera gel then filtered using clean gauze.  The kemuning leaves extract and aloe vera extract had formulated into lotion preparation. The physical properties of the lotion (homogeneity, type of emulsion, pH, spreadability, and adhesion) were determined. The organoleptic test showed that the color of the lotion was pale yellow with a smooth texture and had extract scent. The lotion was showed good homogeneity, spreadability 7.31 cm, pH 7, type oil in water and adhesion 45 seconds. The physical properties parameters of lotion preparations showed that the lotion preparations had fulfilled the requirements of good preparations.

Abstract

Duwet fruit (Syzygium cumini) is a local Indonesian fruit that has many benefits. Duwet juice contains antioxidants that have DPPH free radical activity. But the use of duwet fruit is not practical for modern society. This research was conducted to formulate duwet juice into a gel-based carbopol 940 with the physical quality test of the gel. Duwet fruit extraction was tested for phytochemical screening qualitatively. The gel is made in 5 formulas namely I (100% aquadest: 0% ethanol 70%); II (75% aquadest: 25% ethanol 70%); III (50% aquadest: 50% ethanol 70%); IV (25% aquadest: 75% ethanol 70%); and V (0% aquadest: 100% ethanol 70%). The results showed that Duwet juice contained of flavonoid, polyphenols, and anthocyanins based on phytochemical screening tests. The formula of gel I, II, and III has fulfilled the pH requirements of 4.5-6.5, homogeneity, and spread capacity of 5-7 cm. Increasing the concentration of 70% ethanol in the gel formula will increase the pH value and spread capacity.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine a change that occurs in total phenolic content (TPC) and antibacterial activity of ashitaba (Angelica keiskei) after dried using two different methods : sun and oven drying. The effectiveness of the drying methods was evaluated in term of total phenolic content (TPC) by using spectrophotometric assay with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and antibacterial activity againts Streptococcus mutans by in vitro macrodilution assay. Oven drying at 60oC possessed high TPC (2,98 ± 0,0935 g EAG/100g) compared to sun drying method (1,72 ± 0,0142 g EAG/100g). Simillar pattern was also observed in antibacterial activity. Oven drying have higher antibacterial activity with the MBC (minimal bactericidal concentration) value of 0,5 mg/mL againts Streptococcus mutans. Therefore, sun drying is not suggested for drying method of ashitaba in terms of total phenolic content and antibacterial activity compared with oven drying methods.

Abstract

Hidrokuinon dan merkuri merupakan bahan yang sering ditambahkan dalam krim kecantikan dengan tujuan untuk memutihkan kulit. Mekanisme hidrokuinon dan merkuri dalam memutihkan kulit pada prinsipnya yaitu dengan menghambat produksi melanin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi hidrokuinon dan merkuri serta menentukan kadar hidrokuinon yang terkandung dalam krim kecantikan yang beredar di Kecamatan Alas. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif non eksperimental dimana sebanyak 10 sampel krim kecantikan yang beredar dikecamatan Alas diperoleh dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Identifikasi hidrokuinon dilakukan secara kualitatif dengan menggunakan pereaksi FeCl3, sedangkan identifikasi merkuri menggunakan pereaksi KI. Penentuan kadar hidrokuinon dalam sampel dilakukan secara kuantitatif dengan menggunakan Spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Berdasarkan perhitungan parameter validasi, diperoleh persamaan y = 0,0308x + 0,1262, nilai linearitas dengan koefisien korelasi (r) sebesar 0,9912, LOD sebesar 0,2925 ppm, LOQ sebesar 0,9749 ppm dan presisi dengan nilai RSD sebesar 0,3884%. Berdasarkan hasil yang telah diperoleh, sebanyak 8 sampel krim kecantikan positif mengandung hidrokuinon dengan kadar sampel A sebesar 2,7108%; sampel C 1,8530%; sampel D 2,3843%; sampel E 2,9227%; sampel F 2,7166%; sampel G 1,5161%; sampel I 4,0043%; sampel J 2,3793%. Uji kualitatif merkuri menggunakan pereaksi KI menunjukkan bahwa sebanyak 10 sampel krim positif mengandung merkuri.

Abstract

Diabetes is a degenerative disease whose numbers continue to increase from year to year. Treatment with oral antidiabetic drugs can cause harmful side effects for patients. One of the plants that can be used for diabetes therapy is juwet (Syzygium cumini L.). Flavonoid compounds of juwet seed is easily oxidized and hydrolyzed in intestinal fluids with low absorption. This problem can be overcome by forming nanoparticle of juwet seed extract. The aims of this study was to obtain the formula for juwet seed nanoparticles. Nanoparticle of juwet seed extract made by ionic gelation method with chitosan and Na-TPP polymers which are varied. The formula optimization design in this study was determined using a simplex lattice design by 3 variations of materials based on the parameters %entrapment efficiency, %transmittant, particle size, polydisperse index, and zeta potential. The results showed that the yield of duwet seed extract was 7,44%. Juwet seed ethanolic extract contains 3.33 mg of quercetin per 1 g of extract. Based on the desirability value approach, the optimum formula was produced with an extract composition of 1.650 mL; chitosan 0.500 mL; and Na-TPP 0.010 mL can give optimal results with a desirability value of 0.772 which results in the criteria of 63.66% entrapment efficiency; 50.56% transmittant; 615,833nm particle size; 0.620 PDI; and zeta potential of +13.89 mV. Juwet seeds extract can be formulated into the form of nanoparticles. To get better parameters, it is advisable to optimize the mixing time and mixing speed in the ionic gelation method.

Abstract

Peel-Off face mask is one of the cosmetics that is used to treat skin from free radicals. Peel-off face mask can minimize the effects of free radicals because it contains antioxidant. One of the antioxidant sources is red dragon fruit’s rind (Hylocereuspolyrhizus Haw.). The aim of this study is to obtain Peel-Off face mask of red dragon fruit’s rind extract that contains anthocyanin. Red dragon fruit’s rind was macerated by ethanol 96%, ethyl acetate and n-hexane added citric acid (4:1) solvents. TLC test used Chloroform: ethyl acetate: n-butanol (5:4:1) eluent and sprayed by AlCl3. Antioxidant activity of extract was tested using DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picryhidrazyl) method. Peel-Off face mask was made using PVA, HPMC, methyl paraben, propylparaben, propylenglycol, extract, ethanol 96% and aquadest. The rendemen of ethanol 96% extract was 9,476%, ethyl acetate extract was 0,783% and n-hexane extract was 0,631%. The results of TLC test showed yellow spots on the ethyl acetate and ethanol 96% extracts which indicated that extract contained flavonoids (anthocyanin). The results of antioxidant activity test showed that IC50 value of ethanol 96% extract was 189,7422 (AAI=0,2087), ethyl acetate extract was 196,9398 (AAI=0,2011), and n-hexane extract was 385,3664 (AAI=0,1027). The result of the product evaluations showed that all the formulas complied the product requirements such as the organoleptic, homogenity, pH, dispersive power and drying time. Peel-off face mask already meet the product requirements but further research is needed to test the product stability and activity.

Abstract

Ashitaba is known to have antioxidant activity and gram-positive antibacterial activity that causes body odor. This is the potential activity for an active substance to be developed as deodorant. The appropriate formula is needed, so it is necessary to optimize the formula using the right method. This study aimed was to determine the application of the simplex lattice design method on the optimization of a deodorant roll-on formula of ashitaba extract. Ashitaba was extracted by the maceration method. The formula optimization design was determined using the simplex lattice design method by Design Expert®7.5.1. The components for optimization were the concentration of carbopol and concentration of TEA, and the optimization parameters were the spreadability test, sticky power, and pH test. The optimum formula of deodorant consists of 0.45% carbopol and 2.05% TEA. The responses of optimum formula obtained spreadability test 6.32 ± 0.33 cm, sticky power 44.67 ± 3.94 seconds, and pH 7.73 ± 0.17. These results meet the criteria for good preparation but need further testing related to the effectiveness of the preparation and the level of acceptance of the preparation by the user.

Abstract

Tingginya angka pengangguran di kota Mataram diantaranya kurangnya pendidikan dan keterampilan dari tenaga kerja. Lulusan SMA membutuhkan keterampilan untuk menciptakan lapangan pekerjaan dan mengurangi angka pengangguran. Salah satu peluang wirausaha adalah dengan membuat masker peel off lidah buaya (Aloe vera). Hal ini dilatar belakangi oleh intensitas matahari yang tinggi didaerah Indonesia yang cenderung menimbulkan efek negatif pada kulit terutama sunburn. Bahan baku lidah buaya yang mudah diperoleh dan mempunyai aktivitas sebagai antiinflamasi dari sunburn. Metode pelaksanaan pengabdian untuk memecahkan masalah mitra siswa SMAIT Anak Sholeh Mataram terdiri dari tiga tahapan yaitu persiapan kegiatan, pelaksanaan kegiatan, dan monitoring dan evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan pengabdiaan menunjukkan bahwa peserta memberikan tanggapan yakni peserta merasa pelatihan ini bermanfaat, proses pembuatan sediaan mudah dan pesesrta akan membuat masker lidah buaya. Tanggapan lainnya yakni penyajian materi menarik, materi yang disajikan mudah dipahami dan secara umum peserta puas terhadap kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat pembuatan masker lidah buaya ini

Abstract

Syzygium cumini (S. cumini) fruits have a high potential to be developed as medicine because of their polyphenol content. Polyphenol is easily degraded so that its stability needs to be increased through the formation of nanoencapsulation. The aim of this study was to determine the formula of SBJ nanoparticles which has good characteristics. The formula was determined using a pseudoternary phase diagram based on the %transmittant and %EE. Nano SBJ was characterized for % transmittant ,% EE, polydispersity index, and zeta potential. The formula of Nano SBJ obtained chitosan, SBJ extract, and Na TPP were 0.347%, 0.627%, and 0.047%, respectively. The characterization of Nano SBJ were % EE was 30.72%, the mean diameter of particles was 138.1 ± 7.9 nm, PdI was 0.839 ± 0.043, and zeta potential was 34.9 ± 1.2 mV. Nano SBJ has nano-sized particles and has good stability, but low in entrapment efficiency.
