Abstract

Analysis of communications skill on biology learning high school AbstractThe research aims to find out the dominance of scientific communication in biology learning of class X IPA 1, to find out the dominance of  scientific communication in biology learning of class XI IPA 1, and to find out the communication barriers occurred in the biology learning. The research was a classroom observation research. The observations were conducted in two class (class X IPA 1 and class XI IPA 1). The observations of each class were made five times. The observations were conducted from the 22 February 2017 to 10 May 2017. The observation recorded all communication between students and teacher during the process learning biology. The population of this research was students of class X IPA 1 and XI IPA 1 in MAN 2 Surakarta. The subjects were selected using purposive sampling recommended by the biology teacher. The data were collected by the observations, interviews, and documentations. The data were analyzed using the VICS Flanders matrix. The results showed the dominance of scientific communications in class X IPA 1 and XI IPA 1 of MAN 2 Surakarta was balanced or two-way communication. The percentage of the dominance of scientific communications in class X IPA 1 was 50.26 %. The percentage of the dominance of scientific communications in class XI IPA 1 was 43.08%. The barriers to the students' communications were psychological, physical, semantic, and process.

Abstract

The study aims to identify the argumentation profile of high school students in learning in the covid-19 era. This research is quantitative descriptive with a survey method. The research population was 172 students, with a sample of 72 students. Determination of the sample using cluster random sampling technique has a balanced quality from the results of the paired F test. The research procedure was carried out by collecting data on student answers from argumentative essay questions distributed via a google form. Argumentative questions based on TAP contain six components, namely Evidence (E), Warrant (W), Backing (B), Qualifier (Q), Rebuttal (R), and Claim (C). The argumentation scoring rubric is calculated based on the Patton-Pickle rule. Data analysis was carried out by interpreting the scores obtained by students on each argumentation component that showed the argumentation profile. Most of the students' argumentation profiles, according to their components, are in the very low category scores, namely 0.5 and 1. A score of 0.5 is obtained by comparing the percentages of students: E: E: W: W: B: Q: R: C: C: C by 23.61%: 1.39%: 0.00%: 52.78%: 45.83%: 83.33 %: 4.17%: 2.78%: 2.78%: 0.00% while the score of 1 is 41.67%: 55.56%: 83.33%: 47.22%: 54.17%: 8.33%: 75.00%: 83.33%: 79.17%: 98 ,61%. Scores were obtained due to various factors, including the learning process that was less meaningful, students' understanding and reasoning of the material was not in-depth, the generalization process of evidence or theory was not appropriate.

Abstract

Students' argumentation skills: A comparison between the guided-inquiry learning model and the Socrates dialogue-integrated guided-inquiry learning model AbstractThe research aimed to determine whether there was a difference in students’ written scientific argumentation skills through Guided Inquiry learning model and Guided Inquiry learning model integrated with Socratic Dialogue. The research was quasi-experimental research. The research design used was posttest only with nonequivalent group design. The population in this research were all students of class XI IPA of SMA Negeri A Karanganyar academic year 2018/2019. The sampling technique used in this research was cluster random sampling. The sample in this study was class XI IPA 1 as the experimental class 1 with the Guided Inquiry learning model and class XI IPA 2 as the experimental class 2 with the Guided Inquiry learning model combined with Socrates Dialogue.  The data collection technique used was test technique and non-test technique. The hypothesis test used was t-test. The results of the research showed that the average scientific written argument for the experimental class 2 was higher at 74.44 compared to the experimental class 1 at 65.99. The t-test results show that tcountttable (4,675 1,99444), meaning that there were significant differences in students' written scientific argumentation skills between the experimental class 1 and the experimental class 2. The conclusion of this study was that there was a difference in students' written scientific argumentation skills through the Guided Inquiry learning model with Guided Inquiry learning model integrated with Socrates Dialogue.
